I don't think it matters now, seems like both teams have called it quits on the discussion.

and now the celtics will get nothing. stretch out the rebuilding process by a few years. good job guys

Rivers didn't force the Celtics in anything. It's all on the Celtics (Ainge).
Rivers wants to coach KG and Pierce.
KG wants to only play for Rivers.
Pierce wants to stay in Boston.
They're all in on Boston.
It's the Celtics that wants to trade KG to the Clippers. It's also the Celtics that wants to 'trade' their coach.
'Trading' a coach is ridiculous, no matter how you look at it. It's not like the coaches are compensated the same way players are. No wonder Rivers wants to be rid of that circus Ainge is running.

Funny how the talks stalled just a few hours before game 6 started, and after the game was over, there seemed to be skeptics popping up that the deal may not be dead. I'd go out on a limb and say that there never was a deal or talks to begin with.
Wed Jun 19, 2013 6:13 pm
I don't know about that. It may never have been close to a done deal but I don't think it was merely idle speculation on the part of some bored writers. It seems like some kind of discussions were taking place.

Doc Bulldog is a very good coach, its just happen so many injuries in boston player since 2009 from kg to bench, pierce and now rondo....

Clippers restart talks with Celtics on Kevin Garnett-Doc Rivers dealWith a full understanding that free agent Chris Paul wants this deal completed, the Los Angeles Clippers re-engaged the Boston Celtics on the Kevin Garnett-Doc Rivers negotiations on Wednesday afternoon, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
The Clippers walked away from the talks on Monday morning, insisting that Boston's asking price of DeAndre Jordan and two first-round picks was too steep of a price for Garnett.

I can see how true Celtics fans want this changes to be made as soon as possible and start anew to. Simply to forget past and rebuild.
Seemingly in Boston right now, I hear the fans aren't too happy how Rivers doesn't want to stick around the rebuilding Celtics team but to follow KG to the Clippers. Even if this deal doesn't go down, I can envision something else happening with the Celtics roster immensely and maybe with coaching staffs as well.

boston fans dont want another 10+ years of fighting for the 8th seed. we had a horrible stretch going there for awhile.

Hey come on now!

Old man Sauru probably can't do the shimmy that's why he hatin' on the Celtics 'Toine era.
Thu Jun 20, 2013 10:46 pm
the toine era was not as bad as the years before he got there lol. the celtics were bad for a long time before we traded for kg and allen
Thu Jun 20, 2013 10:56 pm
They had some terrible luck with Len Bias and Reggie Lewis. With either of those players on the roster - or both of them - chances are they would've transitioned more smoothly into the next era, much the same as the Lakers have historically done (and more recently, the Spurs).
Thu Jun 20, 2013 11:38 pm
yeah the lose of bias cost us a couple rings for sure in my mind

Clips seek approval from Sterling for Garnett-Rivers dealUnder league rules, Rivers can't officially be traded, but the draft picks are compensation for a release of the coach's contractual obligations to the Celtics. Garnett and Jordan can be exchanged for each other. In the eyes of the NBA, these have to be executed as two different deals.
After the talks stalled on Tuesday morning, Paul communicated to the Clippers that the hiring of Rivers and acquisition of Garnett would be essential to his re-signing as a free agent in July, sources said.
I really didn't think it was that important. I think the Clippers would be better off hiring George Karl, since Javale McGee seemed better on the Nuggets than when he was in Washington, maybe DJ could improve, too. On the contrary, he worked with Hakeem Olajuwon a few years ago, and I'm not sure if that did squat to help him.
If this trade is completed, I think they can change the name to the Los Angeles Paul's since he seems to be running the show.

This will be hilarious if the Clippers got KG and signed Rivers but Paul signs with another team like Brand did with Baron Davis.

Wow. You haven't been this good in awhile. Good one.
Anyways...
Clippers May End Up Paying Luxury TaxesWith Paul and Garnett, along with Blake Griffin, Caron Butler, Jamal Crawford and Eric Bledsoe, the Clippers would have six players under guaranteed contract for next season at a total of $63.4 million.
The league’s current luxury tax projection for next season is $71.5 million. If the Clippers intend to stay under the tax, they’d have just $8.1 million to flesh out the roster with at least seven players.
......
If the Clippers are serious about putting together a championship team, they will probably drift into the tax.
If they want to go all in, perhaps they can get the Magic to include another former Celtic (Glen Davis) in the deal for Afflalo (with the non-guaranteed Summers included to match salaries).
That would require a significant commitment from the Clippers. If they spend $80 million in salary, they’re paying an additional $13.6 million in luxury taxes. That’s probably too much to ask of a team that isn’t accustomed to that level of payroll.

I don't know that a backcourt of Rondo and Nash would work out all that well.

Clips-Celts deal unlikelySources told ESPN.com on Thursday that league officials have communicated to both teams that they have serious misgivings about the proposed transactions because Garnett and Rivers have been shopped by the Celtics as a package deal, which would violate NBA rules prohibiting contingencies or sides deals in any trade.
David Stern must not like Chris Paul very much.
Fri Jun 21, 2013 2:09 pm
The Los Angeles Clippers' new strategy, in the wake of NBA commissioner David Stern's public comments Thursday expressing serious misgivings about the legitimacy of the proposed trade of Kevin Garnett and a corresponding transaction that would transport Celtics coach Doc Rivers from Boston to L.A. as a package deal, is to pursue Rivers first and roll the dice on acquiring Garnett and Paul Pierce later, sources told ESPN.
Let's see how this will work out. Chances are still there that the league would rescind the deal(s).
Fri Jun 21, 2013 2:09 pm
He mustn't keep tabs on the news much, either. It's fair enough that they're stepping in given the nature of the negotiations, but strange they didn't step in earlier.
Fri Jun 21, 2013 2:36 pm
He was watching the GREATEST NBA FINALS IN WORLD HISTORY!!!!!! He never thought there'd be gambling going on behind his back in this establishment!
Fri Jun 21, 2013 10:24 pm
Ainge just wouldn't let go of Doc Rivers for nothing. LoL. I say the Clippers should just call it quits and look elsewhere to please Chris Paul.
Sat Jun 22, 2013 2:20 am
if the celtics can get 2 draft picks for rivers i would be happy. the guy does not want to rebuild, thats fine, lets get something for him. i mean how often do teams get anything for dropping their coach. i still want them to work on trading garnett and pierce though
