you cant blame players for wanting money, the only reason the malones and paytons are taking the pay cuts is because they already've got their big pay days (said so themselves). you can blame the richer owners for paying it and raising the average 4 million for a decent player is monkey-nuts. its all kevin garnetts fault if you ask me, all free agents should be restricted and teams'd have to give up picks to sign them. then players would have far less leverage to demand huge paydays since many teams value their first rounders more than their coaches

I wouldn't go that far, but I think it's safe to say that Kenyon wouldn't be as well off without Jason Kidd feeding him every night.

Clearly you never never saw Kenyon Martin's absolute domination in college without Jason Kidd on his team...clearly you missed the last year where Martin was the only viable offensive weapon the Nets had in the half-court...

Ben, your "he did well in college" point is about as well thought-out as a Scott Layden trade; remember how dominating Ed O'Bannon was in college? He can't even find work as a 12th man now. (And that's just one example where NCAA honors shouldn't translate to maximum contract for NBA players.) Secondly, Martin wasn't the most viable weapon in New Jersey's half-court; he wasn't even their leading scorer, nor did he lead the team in FG%.

...and we'll ignore the fact that it's Eddie Jordan that focused Martin's anger and polished him into the deadliest Power Forward in the Eastern Conference, not Jason Kidd...

Well, we'll see how he does this year, now that Eddie Jordan left town to coach the Wizards. My guess is, he'll do just fine, other factors nonwithstanding. But can you really call him "the deadliest Power Forward [sic] in the Eastern Conference?" Lest you forget, Kenyon Martin's never made an All-Star team. I think he's a damn good player, but he's not even an All-Star -- in the power forward bereft East -- so, how could you justify giving him a max deal?

I'd rather have Martin than O'Neal personally...O'Neal (and Sheed) hasn't shown the ability to take over like Martin does...

Just like he "took over" in the Finals this year? Against San Antonio, Martin shot 34% when his team needed him the most, though admittedly, he was sick for one of those games. I don't mean to knock him, because I really like his game, but I just can't agree with you here. You say O'Neal hasn't shown he can "take over," yet his numbers in the playoffs are improvements over his regular season statistics. He averaged 22.8 PPG and a monster 17.5 RPG in the playoffs, so I think he's more deserving than you think, and certainly more deserving than Kenyon Martin.

finding a team willing to take on mutumbo's contract, close to over $40mil over the next 2 yrs, is a rarity. mutumbo is prolly just as old as robert parish. and prolly just as serviceable if the nets don't have him sit out the regular season again. adding wallace drops kidd to 2nd best post player and gives the nets a legit scorer in the post who actually plays forward.

regardless... i think the nets should hold on to kmart:
-the nets have made the finals 2yrs straight with the same core (i'm not mentioning kvh cuz the team is used to having him not show up for the playoffs). why make such a drastic change?
-kmart may get techs/flagarants but he's nowhere the headcase as wallace is. when he's not guarding duncan, i think kmart is the best pf defensively.
-if Zo can stay healthy and come back anything close to his old form, a zo/kmart would be destructive on the defensive end and would be a treat to watch.
-mutumbo's up and under and travel post move won't work in the west

nah i'd take Rasheed over Kenyon...i know Sheed is older and he has problem with the law but Rasheed has made the all-star team in the Western Confrence Kenyon has not even made the all-star team in the East how's he going to do in the west...hm i'd like to see that...he'll have to take on Bigger and better PF's more than he have to in the east...TD,KG,Brand, heck maybe Malone will make it hard for Kenyon..the only team that likes to have player that has big contract like Mutombo are...TrailBlazer,Dallas,NY....heck those three teams are rank in the top five in pay rolls...and Sheed has sum skill that are not too shabby..like he's the top Blazer in three pointers made...he's got a great range...plus Kenyon will have to work with the Jailblazers...c'mon we're talking about the Jailblazers...if they can't even get their off-court problem right how are they gonna get past the first rd in the West...

actually i was referring to Sheed leading the league in technical fouls. the nets can rely on wallace to get stupid tech's and yell after he dunks, martin does the same (gets less techs) but he's much more of a better leader then wallace.

wallace is the better and more polished player. but once again, martin improved this season and after another solid playoff performance (not counting game 6), i believe martin is primed for a breakout season and has a great chance to make the allstar team

the only team that likes to have player that has big contract like Mutombo are...TrailBlazer,Dallas,NY....heck those three teams are rank in the top five in pay rolls..

i don't see any of those teams making any moves to get mutumbo


... wallace may be the more talented player but i think martin is a better fit. wallace gives the nets a better scorer but lose the great defense martin gives. given Zo's & deke's health situation, i think the nets would be better served with at least one of their frontcourt players being healthy and a good defensive presence
