Epic!

They tried cracking down on this a few years back and it was a complete fiasco with the most wishy washy technicals being issued each and every game. I wouldn't mind if they were a bit harder on stars who glare down officials but like benji said, those guys are still going to get a pass.
Under those guidelines, players basically have to accept every call with a solemn nod. They probably won't even be able to express frustration at themselves for having committed a stupid foul as it'll inevitably be interpreted as an inappropriate gesture towards the officials. I'm all for having some guidelines on acceptable conduct, having referees tell players and coaches "That's enough" and then calling a tech if they still want to make an issue out of it or make complete asses of themselves, but this is taking things way too far.
If the league wants to cut down on the complaints, then perhaps the referees should be held to a higher standard and the use of instant replay expanded.

Or indeed be excited in any way at all (see: Derek Fisher getting a technical for being happy that the Lakers scored, because the ref thought he was unhappy about an earlier call).

No more ref-punching from Pierce.

Guess we won't be seeing
animations like this in 2K11 then, since irl doesn't allow it.

The Charlotte Observer spent like half a page talking about this affects Stephen Jackson.

i am all for less crying in basketball but they need to give some warnings first i think then after it continues to happen just start throwing T's around. actually they should have different form of techs. you should have the ones that get you ejected then a sub form for these crying calls. would suck to see players getting booted just cause they complained.
however the biggest problem in the nba is still going strong with flopping. until the flops and the pump-fake-jump-into-defener-to-get-to-the-line shit is fixed the nba will still be very annoying to watch

But then Paul Pierce wouldn't have a go-to move!

Hey. Almost agreed but this...
Reggie Miller was awesome at it and it's more like playing smart than playing cheap. Besides, Pierce's also good at it.

its a sacrifice I'm willing to make

me too considering its the go to move for pretty much every superstar not playing the 4 or 5 spot

Considering how they ultimately backed off this stance last time, I can only hope it goes awry within the first couple of weeks of the season, forcing the league to reconsider its position. It'd be worth the bad basketball just to prove the league wrong and the stupidity of the initiative.

We don't want our players looking like they're complaining about calls on the court because it makes them look like complainers," Johnson said. "You do that six times in a game, it really starts to look bad on television. A lot of these things may not look as bad in the arena. But on TV, when attention is focused on it, it stands out
So it's all about making it look good for the TV then.
I bet some wise ass know it all from the PR/marketing department suggested to Stu Jackson to bring that shite back.
Mon Sep 27, 2010 10:52 am
So instead, the referees will look like thin-skinned control freaks. Much better.

Here's an idea. Don't focus on it.

Unless they immediately cut to the crowd or something immediately after every call, the cameras are going to pick up player reactions.

still say flopping is more important this this............
Mon Sep 27, 2010 6:06 pm
After a score, or and-1, where a player punches the air - is this illegal?
I'm pretty sure a player did this in the advertisements leading up to the Finals, so it would seem weird that this is a rule...
3 air punches:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cyD5JjEE0kEither way, I am officially done with the NBA. So fucking over it, if I watch a game before the playoffs I'll be surprised. Wake me in April.

I agree to this. Suspensions to the guilty parties.

Absolutely. But on the bright side, we won't notice the flopping because we'll be up in arms about stupid knee-jerk technicals.

The NBA will also be
doubling the fines handed out along with technical fouls.

Dumbass fuckers. How much more do they want to rig the league.
