Gunshots heard on 911 call from cell phone 9 days agoIn the early hours of July 19, a Germantown dispatcher received a 911 call from Lorenzen Wright's cell phone.
The dispatcher heard a garbled male voice utter an expletive, then at least 10 gunshots.
"Hello? Hello? Can you hear me?" the dispatcher asked.
Then the phone went dead.

This is really terrible.

RIP Lorenzen Wright.
People are now saying that the police should have acted faster after they're received the 911 call from Wright's cellphone.

that's sad...

According to an article I just read, that's being investigated.

Bill Simmons also points out:
RIP Lorenzen Wright. 4 '96 Clippers passed away (Sealy, Wright, B. Williams, Duckworth) + a 5th is a quadraplegic (R. Rogers). Dumbfounding.
never heard about the rodney rogers accident before. wow.
also Dwayne Schintzius is getting over leukemia
In November 2009, Schintzius was diagnosed with leukemia. With a bone marrow donation from his brother Travis, he had bone marrow transplant surgery at the Moffit Cancer Center in Tampa on January 12, 2010. As of February, the surgery was considered a success. [11][12]

sadly, few outside of the basketball community will even care. if he were a perennial allstar player this would have been all over the news

The same could be said for a lot of murders though. It'll make the local news but it won't make national or global headlines. I get where you're coming from though.

If the killer really did this to just get pocket money Wright was rumored to carry around, he really needs to realize what he's done to his kids' life. It's just sickening.
Sun Aug 01, 2010 6:39 am
This could be said for people all over the world.
Sun Aug 01, 2010 7:24 am
z02 R u implying all victims are good daddies that gets killed for the pocket money and are high profile nba-ers and young kids who were having a great relationship with their dad are left fatherless. can't u see this is a sickening case for many, nba-er gone missing and found dead, shot numerously, and kids r now left dumbfounded after waiting for pigs to finish their donuts to finally find their dad dead.
don't just merely repeat what andrew posted above and pretend u don't get the point like some 9 yrs. ..

also I just skipped to the end of the page, accidentally skipped over Andrew's post- never mind.
Main point: It's really sick how often you hear about people get killed over trivial things like money here in the States and my thoughts go out to his family and friends. RIP Lorenzen Wright.

Yeah, and it SHOULD be investigated.

If any good can come out of a situation like this - whether the person is/was well-known before the incident or not - it's that a procedure can be amended or a law can be made in an effort to prevent something like it from happening again.
Mon Aug 02, 2010 11:21 am
What law could possibly be made that prevents things like this?
Mon Aug 02, 2010 11:41 am
No shooting anyone over 6'5

In this particular case, it would be amended procedure.
Mon Aug 02, 2010 6:17 pm
Interestingly, the police were actually under
no obligation to do a damned thing.
Mon Aug 02, 2010 6:50 pm
Yes, that is well established in the States, police are reactionary forces for punishment, not preventative forces. When you grant police the power to "prevent" crimes before they happen you lay the groundwork for a police state.
It's shocking that most people are not aware of the established case law on this. But these are the same people who think they're entitled to the "profits" of Social Security's ponzi scheme.
Mon Aug 02, 2010 8:06 pm
Isn't the issue here that they didn't react quickly enough to the 911 call though? That doesn't mean they have to go Judge Dredd or anything.
Mon Aug 02, 2010 8:08 pm
They have no obligation to react to the 911 call whatsoever, much less 'quickly'.

Amen! not only is social security a ponzi scheme, but due to its antiquated age bracket it is running out of money. The age to begin ss should be around 80. Did you know if you live to 65 there is good probability you now reach 90! when ss was instituted if you reached 65 you were revered since it was rare anyone reached 80!
