There's blame on both sides there, I don't think T-Mac did himself too many favours with the way he handled the situation but Adelman's arguably allowed his ego to get the better of him too.

The Rockets moved on. McGrady was simply a cap anchor and black hole possession-wise. The team is in playoff contention without their primary superstar, and didn't need McGrady to get to the second round last year.

The 2005-08 McGrady was simply a team killer, using 30-35% of possessions and not using them well.

The Rockets sent the Magic a bunch of overpaid crap in hopes McGrady would replicate his Jordan-like 2003. He didn't and became the teams biggest problem.

I can't argue against that, since I also thought he was eating up too much of ball usage. And T-Mac probably screwed over himself publicly when spoke against his own team during last year playoffs series of Rockets and Lakers. Nonetheless, he won quite a few games for the Rockets, and in some years, the team's record with him on the court was pretty good, so I think the Rockets owe him a little bit more than the respect they're paying him right now.

They don't owe him anything except the $23 million if they can't trade him.

Deal is obviously dead, with the Mavericks getting Butler and Haywood instead.

Knicks in serious talks for McGrady

Different deal, obviously.

The Knicks and Rockets have designed the framework of a deal that would unload New York’s Jared Jeffries, Jordan Hill and either Al Harrington or Larry Hughes for McGrady, Joey Dorsey and Brian Cook.

Not exactly Butler and Haywood. Harrington or Hughes would at least be an expiring contract, Jeffries can opt out of his deal at the end of the year but I doubt he'll walk away from just under $7 million and Hill may or may not crack the rotation. I like the deal for New York though, whatever McGrady can give them in the meantime is a bonus and he comes off the books at the end of the year, they'd dump Jeffries and his remaining salary in time for the free agent frenzy and both Cook and Dorsey can be let go for additional cap room at the year's end.

If New York were to give up draft picks and Jordan hill for Tracy McGrady this would be an awful deal for them. Almost laughable, even moreso when they don't land LeBron or Wade.

I forgot about the picks. I agree that's not as good a deal, they've already traded away their first round pick this year though so they might as well go for cap space as it's top tier free agent(s) or bust for them.

Pretty good trade for the NYK. 3 more role players which the Rockets are collecting for 1 superstar NYK is deseperately seeking. Works for both sides, I guess.

I just can't wait to see Mcgrady playing again. I'm just curious how bad he is at the moment since the Rockets pretty much treated him as a cancer despite of his expiring contract.

According to Dwyane Wade, McGrady isn't done. He's clearly not on Adelman's good side though, I'd suggest that's a much bigger factor in him being held out than not being able to play at the NBA level at all. Of course having said that, it seems highly unlikely that he'll reach the level of play that netted him his current deal all those years ago.

"I think he has something left," Wade told the Post

Yeah, that something is what I really like to see sooner than later. If the Rockets fail to move him by deadline, it'll take longer to see him playing. Buying out his contract isn't something neither side wants I think.

That's what I'm saying. You'd think the Knicks would have learned by now, trading draft picks comes back to bite you. Walsh seems to bank everything on landing LeBron or Wade, but we know that's not going to happen. And if there's no Plan B, this franchise it TOTALLY f*d.

It certainly doesn't look like there's a Plan B right now, especially without a first round pick this year.

Deal might be close

Yeah, if I were the Knicks, I would take the gamble and send the Rockets Hill plus that first rounder so that I can get rid of Jeffries. I think McGrady still has a bit of basketball left in the tank and actually think he can do well in the last 30-odd games of the regular season... enough to lock up a contract to stick around. I think maybe that's what the Knicks want as Walsh doesn't want to give up Hill for nothing. Then look at the cap space that they have and being able to offer two maximum contracts. I mean, New York could look a bit appealing to some players.

A bit of a gamble but since when have the Knicks made any good moves in the last decade?

Yeah, but hopefully they won't overpay him. If they haven't learnt their lesson before.

The Knicks won't pay him anything, they aren't even going to pay David Lee.

Screw it, I don't want this deal if it involves losing our 2011 & 2012 first-round draft picks. That's insane.

Looks like it's going to be a done deal

The Knicks and Rockets are reportedly finalizing a trade to send Tracy McGrady to New York.

unless the Rockets decide to trade him to us :P

Marc Stein reported late Tuesday that the Rockets are close to deciding between offers from the Knicks and Bulls. Their decision is expected on Wednesday.

Why would you want your 2011 or 2012 draft picks if you have the ability to sign 2 max deal free agents and make the playoffs, possibly contend for a championship? It's only going to be a late first rounder

If they sign 2 max players they still have like 13 roster spots to fill. It's not a guarantee they'll be a good team.

And there's no guarantee Walsh will get the players he wants. Does anyone actually believe LeBron James is coming here?

Now the reports are saying the Rockets would be sending a '11 1st rounder, so at least the Knicks would have a pick next summer. I think if the Knicks are serious about being big players this summer this deal has to get done. If Mcgrady does well and the team plays better it can show this summers big name free agents what might be possible if they came to town.

What do you call a power forward that averages 7 rebounds?
A small forward.

But the Yankees cap, Jeffx. A sure sign of a done deal. ;)
