I remember reading how Nate Robinson said he was done with the dunk contest or something previously (possibly earlier this season). Can anyone find anything related?

looks like shannon brown is one of the 3 not announced

I'll be rooting for Shannon that's for sure
Derozan is interesting though, he can throw it down with the best of em, I just don't know enough about him as to if he's a emphasis dunker or a fancy one?

Good news about Brown. Meanwhile,
LeBron is 50/50.

I am rooting for Shannon Brown. If his creativity and execution can match his athleticism, he could surprise us.
Sat Jan 16, 2010 9:48 am
Any bet the dunk-in is better than the actual contest
Sat Jan 16, 2010 12:01 pm
I sorta stopped paying attention to dunking contest. It seems the trend is players or people don't take this event seriously. I loved back in the days, when level of intensity was higher.
Sat Jan 16, 2010 12:05 pm
As much as I dislike the structure of the contest that they've used in recent years, it still produces some dunks that are fun to watch so for me it's still worth watching.
Sat Jan 16, 2010 12:52 pm
If Shannon Brown is in then I'm all for him. His jumping ability is amazing, it'll all come down to whether he can put his creativity to use or not.

I sense that coming too..

It certainly does make you wonder if he could've unveiled something out of the ordinary after all, but I guess we'll probably never know.
The irony of that video is that you see Shannon Brown in 3rd and Lebron is 1st

First 3 contestant announced....and of course, Lebron Backed out
Robinson will compete against the Charlotte Bobcats’ Gerald Wallace and the Los Angeles Lakers’ Shannon Brown.

LinkGO SHANNON BROWN!!

Alright, so here is the official fuck you to LeBron from JaoSming. Fuck that guy for what he did with teasing us last year.
No dwight makes me a happy camper, I think he's run out of impressive dunk contest dunks. He's made his impact on the contest (whatever is left of it at least) so it's good that he's gone.
Fuck Nate....he better have some good shit stockpiled or I'm going to throw him under the bus with LeBron (in my head)
I can't wait to see Crash in the dunk contest, I got a good feeling about him. I'm sure Brown is going to jump over the backboard or something and Taylor/Derozen should provide enough entertainment to let GW and Shannon get into the final round.

I'm glad Lebron James is not in the contest. The only thing he would have brought is more ratings. Although judging by the photo-posing he did with his teammates before games, he could probably come up with some theatrics similar to Nate or Dwight to make his standard dunks have more impact.
Tue Jan 19, 2010 4:51 am
Wondering what Gerald has in his plans.
Tue Jan 19, 2010 5:00 am
I'll go with either Brown(aka Human Trampoline!)or Krypto-Nate
Wallace don't seem that creative to win in the contest to me
Tue Jan 19, 2010 5:05 am
Creativity is for the weak,I'm so tired of it.
I Wanna see some old school Dunks,no god damn sissy jersey switches or something.
Tue Jan 19, 2010 5:32 am
Man, hope Wallace and Brown can make the Finals. Wouldn't even know who to route for. Really hope one of them wins. Of course if Derozan wins, I wouldn't mind that either. (I doubt Eric Gordon can beat him in the dunk-in)
Tue Jan 19, 2010 8:22 am
Decent field, here's hoping for some entertaining moments. Much as I like Dwight Howard, I'm glad he's not competing. I think the Superman gimmick has run its course and there's only so many times that he can don a cape and actually have it enhance the quality of the dunk (even to the point where it's considered a dunk without him touching the rim).

Creativity itself isn't the problem here. It's just that the creativity is coming with props and gimmicks, rather than what the players are doing with the ball and where and how they're taking off for the dunk.
Tue Jan 19, 2010 8:41 am
Even though he went to my middle school, I really hope Nate is ousted in the first round. Crash and Shannon Brown will likely be the finalists, since Nate already has 13 contest dunks under his belt, and the dunk-off winner will have exhausted a couple of his dunks. Surprised to see a veteran like Crash make it, but I'll be rooting for him. He always seems to make the contest in NBA Live.

:
you could say that about any of the dunk contestants hehe
i would have liked to seen Wallace in the dunk contest when he was younger. oh wait that happened already. but still.. he's having a great season and the bobs should make the playoffs. i'm just worried he's going to get injured
Tue Jan 19, 2010 10:09 am
I have to go with Shannon Brown. I hope he wins.

So who is everyone going for in the Dunk-in? I am hoping Eric Gordon does... just so that Clipper fans can have one thing to say when asked what good happened for their team in 2009-10

Wallace was screwed over by the wheel that year. Thankfully, that particular gimmick has yet to return.

I'm hoping for DeRozan to go through myself. Of course, the field could always be expanded to six with both Gordon and DeRozan participating and someone else taking the sixth spot, but...yeah.

I'm totally with you. LeBron is now officially an attention whore, well, at least to me.

And Nate.. honestly, I'm bored of him. If he doesn't bring something special to the table, which I dont think he can, then he just wasted a spot in the contest. I think we've seen almost everything in his repertoire already but maybe he can enter a cheat code and unlock new dunks.

I think Gerald will do a very athletic dunk.. that's his strength. I cant wait to see what Brown will do though, he possess the highest vertical out of all contestants, right? Still, being able to jump high doesn't mean he'll win but I'm sure he'll show us something jaw-dropping.

I noticed a "They Dunk. You Decide." ad during the Mavericks/Celtics game, suggesting they're going to use the now-familiar format of judges in the first round, fan voting in the Finals. I know it's an exhibition and there's more important things going on in the league but if it's going to be a contest, surely it shouldn't be so contrived and should have some sort of logical structure. Why have judges in the first round and fan voting in the Finals? Why not judges for both, or fan voting for both? It just seems weird to have both.
