I don't see Detroit moving a lot higher in standings next season, unless they get someone else (via trade probably). As much as I like Gordon, he and Villanueva are mediocre defenders. Giving up their veterans, they will get younger, but that might take more than 1 season to be something more.

Lol at Detroit's All-No-Defence team of Stuckey-Gordon-Prince(okay, he's the only thats capable of playing good defence)-CV-Kwame
Thu Jul 02, 2009 7:30 pm
Dont forget that they dont even have a coach yet. Detroit doesn't have any good defenders at the moment and if their new coach is weak on defense as well then they have a problem.
Thu Jul 02, 2009 7:57 pm
what i don't get is, why didn't he take the Bulls' 5 year 50 mill extension? he's only getting 5 more million in TOTAL by signing with Detroit....his agent is stupid or something?
Thu Jul 02, 2009 8:13 pm
Oh that's bad
BG ,good luck
My fav player leaves CHI.
bad move for the Bulls. Maybe sign Allen Iverson as a FA?
He's a good SG

I wonder, what Andrew feels right now - this is his beloved player from the BULLS as far as I know...

i would consider tayshaun prince among the top perimeter defensive players in the league. he's been the most consistent defensive piece in the pistons playoff successes over the decade [with the possible exception of ben wallace] and is highly underrated as a roleplayer imo.
gordon's basically a proven version of stephen curry. played point guard in college a lot and lacks the true fundamentals or defensive prowess of the position but is a prolific scorer with basic passing skills as well. good player to have out there on offense but not the type of player you can build around, really. CV and BG aren't a core, they're peripheral players being used as core players from an absence of a true go-to player.
Thu Jul 02, 2009 9:10 pm
Wow, you're really waiting for Andrew's response to this.
Anyways, it's an excellent deal for the Pistons. They will return to their glory days again.
Thu Jul 02, 2009 9:14 pm
it's okay -- the pistons need a cornerstone to their franchise. the only way i can see this deal being really productive is if they can shed some cap and get one of the franchise players on the FA block next offseason. Prince's 11mil expiring could potentially help with that, too.

Bulls gave away a very good franchise player

Thank God for that! It's a big enough signing, it can have its own thread. Official threads are frustrating for this very reason.

Some people who are not fans of the Chicago Bulls or any other team for that matter might like to discuss matters outside of fanboy clubs....
as for the Bulls letting Gordon go for nothing, it really makes you wonder....they pay Deng about $11mil per year, but if I were a Bulls' fan, I'd prefer it going to Gordon....if they weren't willing to pay for him, they should've dealt him....I guess the gamble didn't pay off....Paxson is not looking good....trading LaMarcus Aldridge for Tyrus Thomas, when Aldridge was clearly better fit for the Bulls at the time (I recall Jae & I agreeing on that before the 2006 Draft)....signing Ben Wallace for big dollars....trading away Chandler for JR Smith & change & then sending Smith to Nuggets for two 2nd Round picks....trading Wallace for Larry Hughes, then giving him away....signing Deng to big money....only deal that I liked that Paxson made was the Salmons & Brad Miller deal....he lucked out with number 1 pick in 2008 Draft....ahh well, James Johnson should do the trick

EDIT: I think Villanueva probably would've been a better fit in Cleveland than Detroit.
Thu Jul 02, 2009 11:25 pm
I disagree about him fitting in Cleveland. Bad post game and defense, inconsistent shooting.. Personally I wouldn't want to see him there. Nothing against CV, but I just don't like his style of play.

Yeah, what's an extra 5 mil...
Chicago has been dicking around with contract talks with him for the past couple of years. Detroit gave him a better contract and let him know he is wanted more than Chicago did. It's pretty cut and dry imo. If Rip stays then Ben is the new Vinnie Johnson.
Fri Jul 03, 2009 12:59 am
That's true.
Bulls made bad moves last years and that started when he "big" team started to be destroyed and all good players were traded for players who did nothing in the team.

I cant believe Andrew hasn't post in this thread yet. Maybe he's avoiding it like crazy.

Probably checked into therapy after his nervous breakdown.

Andrew,be strong!
Fri Jul 03, 2009 2:29 am
Gordon deserves that money. He's an awesome shooter, but he's also a great scorer overall with good handles. Y'all sayin' he can't play defense, it's not his rookie year anymore, he's not that bad defender, he's pretty alright. He's also damn clutch. Congrats Detroit fans.
Modify, Iverson's not with Pistons. He's a free agent. If he would still be with them they'd have no cap space for Gordon, damn, that would've been good, the Bulls would still probably have him then.

Andrew's probably enjoying the posts he's getting in this thread, basking in the love and attention before he decides to finally post.
Or he's really in severe depression, sitting in his bathtub with a razor blade, staring at the tiled wall.
