we have the freedom to express what we think. but still, one should do it in a responsible way and show respect unto others. JaoSming is right, this is just immaturity and jealousy. Shaq's going nuts these days. maybe he just needs more attention. he's certainly looking far from having a graceful exit.
edit: and yeah, i'm also confused as to what joe the space marine is trying to say.

Rofl. This reminds me of incident when Shaq refused to help Wade up but him staring down on him for a few seconds and then him goes saying "Wade's still my guy."
I think shaq's just that kind of guy. I don't really think maturity is the issue here. He will say whatever is on his mind and do whatever makes him happy. He's proud of himself and he'll not be shy about telling that to everyone else. I'm not saying he's right to be that way, but he's just different.

I read the article a couple of days before this topic was opened. I remember it saying that this has been happening for a good 5 years now. What about the whole all-star dance off with Shaq and Dwight then? I even saw an NBA TV Special about Dwight where he was all praises about Shaq and he was doing impersonations of Shaq. Wasn't that just a couple of years back?

people make me sick. everyone is the same. shaq is just comfortable enough to say the things others won't. bunch of pretenders.
Thu Jun 11, 2009 2:05 am
I think Shaq cant accept the fact that he's not the same player he used to be anymore. He cant accept his own decline sign and went nuts over people.

Better slim down this offseason and try to have a Duncan like body so he can survive or last for about 4 seasons , he's still one of the best Centers in the league .

Time to pull an Andrew, al la in the style of South Park...

"Conformist bitch!"
Well I think there's a difference between being outspoken and simply being disrespectful. Shaq tends to teeter on that fine line but in this case he just comes off as a rude aging player who's insecure about his own legacy.

criticizing someone else is always the easier way to go.

IMO. He dominated the game because of mass and strength. If he cuts down,he will be pushed away from basket. + He aint young anymore.

Remember Shaq in his first years in the NBA? He was really slim compared to today, but he was as dominant. If he would cut his weight down a bit, he would benefit from that. And Shaq never will be pushed away from basket, no matter how much weight he cuts off.

Kind of like how Shaq is hounding Dwight, right?

In my experience, with the exception of basic human traits people are certainly different. I'd like to think that my cognitive processes are quite different to those of a serial killer, pedophile, or the creators of reality TV programming.
No one's pretending to be anything here. People who are openly egotistical or go around being a jerk to other people tend to rub others the wrong way, simple as that. We all have the capacity to be that person I guess but just because we don't doesn't mean we're fake or pretending, it just means we have a bit of humility and common decency.
Shaq's comfort with being that person doesn't make it right. By that logic, none of us could ever be judged, criticised or punished for our actions no matter what we do because we're simply "being ourselves". Being yourself is not some all-conquering trump card that lets you do anything you want while freeing you from any criticism or repercussions. To put it another way, the right to free speech doesn't necessarily mean what you say is right.

So we can't criticize Shaq for criticizing Dwight? Talk about double standards.

It's up to Dwight if he takes Shaq's criticism in a good way or the other way around .

What Shaq is doing barely qualifies as criticism. Certainly not constructive criticism by any stretch of the imagination.

and I like to think that everyone has these kinds of things inside. only difference to them coming out or not are social environment and social control. but like I said. we have different views on people.

if that's how you want to interpret what I said, it shows you are either generally negative or biased against me.
you could have just as easily seen what I said as critique on shaq for doing the easier thing of not biting his tongue.

exactly. I'm biased cuz I happen to like shaq a lot. doesn't mean I condone his actions though.

It wasn't a negative shot at you. But more about disagreeing with your justification of Shaq's actions. There's being honest and being insecure that you go overboard with your comments.

I haven't justified shaq's actions at all. I like shaq but he's still being a big baby. how is that justifying anything?

Your first few posts. Saying that everyone of us are just kids. Shaq's showing a side that we're all afraid to show and whatnot. Maybe, I interpreted it wrong but what's up with the "negative or biased against me" shit? I barely know who you are.

Shaq's just being a douchebag about the whole Dwight Howard thing. It's nice to see a bigman as humble and always smiling like Howard.
Shaq should just shutup now, it's been years and people tolerated him because he had one of the most dominant games to back up his talking, now though he just looks like that one guy in highschool that can't let go of how kickassishly awesome he was. Give it a rest, pass the Superman crown on bigman, go out with decency a la David Robinson.
Right about people wanting to see their heroes go out with dignity, not like this.
