I can't tell you that, all I know is that if players are almost equal, teams' success becomes a factor.

What if the players aren't equal? Like in the Paul vs. Kobe situation.

1. Kobe's team was more succesful than Paul's, but Paul's individual stats were better and as teams' success is also important, that makes Paul and Kobe pretty much equal.

But you set an initial condition that "IF players are almost equal" THEN "team success becomes a factor" that would determine who is better because of the virtual "tie". But as benji pointed out, Paul and Kobe aren't almost the same this season, so your condition of including team success becomes void thereby making team success a non-determining factor in knowing if Kobe was actually better this season than Chris Paul.

There are players who hold their teams back, such as Tracy McGrady, Ricky Davis, etc, basically stat padders who don't lead their teams to wins, but who'se wins are their own statistical success.

But those players don't have good stats. (At least McGrady doesn't recently. It'd be absurd to claim he wasn't "leading" a team to wins in the past.)

Better examples of players who hold teams back are Antoine Walker, Al Thornton, Baron Davis this season, Latrell Sprewell, etc.

You said the players are the same, not that one is worse. If by "the players are the same" you meant one is Dirk Nowitzki and one is Antoine Walker...I don't know what to tell you.
