I've got the 88 allstar game from Pontel as well and MJ's dunks while being fairly simple just have something about them that is impressive. The way he kicks his legs and moves his arms around make the dunks seem more amazing then they actually are imo.
It's the same with Dr and Nique. They were able to make simple dunks look impressive - even when they did the same sort of dunks a few times in a single dunk contest. MJ double-pumped when he leapt from the free throw line - the way he leapt, it didn't matter that his foot was not completely behind the line.
Dr J put his foot over the line too, but he dunked it emphatically. He didn't just hold the ball over his head and get it over the rim - he slammed it home.
The extension that Nique showed when he performed his famous windmill dunks was awesome, as was the power as the ball was slammed through the hoop.
Sure, their names and reputation might have something to do with us holding their dunks in such high esteem. But they all put that "flavour" in their dunks that made them special, something that can't be imitated by just any athletic player; another reason why getting rid of the wheel was a good move.

Type "dunk contest" for more stuff, and better stuff. I also got a Slamball dunk contest. HOLY SHIT. Guy goes up from the side tramp, extends in a superman, on the way down curls around and lands on his back under the rim, comes up putting the ball bewtween his legs and dunks.

DMiles was there and gave him the headtap.

I've been on a basketball court, I'm aware how far the free throw line is from the basket. A two footed leap from 15 feet to dunk a basketball seems far fetched, but apparently, this guy can do it. I'm just repeating what I read in Slam.

That white guy from Scary Hedo's link almost does it so it's more than feasible that it can be done.

ok what about all those that say they can tpuivh the top of the backboard??? VC ect, i read some rookie coming into nba is able to do it!!! (OUTLAW??)
how can anyone do it? its too high!? any1 god like vids or pics??

That would be pretty easy for someone who is around 6'6" with a great vertical leap, and long arms - it's probably more common than a two footed leap from the free throw line.

I'm sure there's some videos out there somewhere.

Wasn't there an old player (Jackie Jackson maybe? That names sounds familiar, it had a J) that people used to say he could take a quarter off the backboard and leave fifteen cents change. I read in some grade 4 dunk contest /good dunkers book a long timw ago.

I don't remember reading about the 15 cents change part, but I'm pretty sure it was Jackie Jackson who could leave quarters on top of the backboard and retrieve them again.

wow, i just read about him and he was 6'3!!! can imagine any1 jumping so high, does any1 know where i can get a vid clip!
also, that 12 foot dunk, many players in NBA can break that right? coz if u can touch trhe top of the backboard then for sure u can dunk at 12 feet?

As far as i know the world record for highest dunk ever is Michael "Wild thing" Wilsos who plays for the Harlem Globetrotters. He is like 6'7 with long arms and from what i have heard a 50' vertical.
Earl "the Goat" Manigault used to apparently pick quarters off the top of backboards and hes wasn't much over 6' - could just be an urban ledgend though.

I saw Michael Wilson at half time of an NBL game a few years ago, he stumbled onto the court, did a 360 with ease, smiled, waived and left.
That white dude in Scary Hedo's link is not bad. He makes that free throw line look close to the basket!
I was told a while ago that aussie Sam Mackinnon could touch the top of the backboard... dunno if this is true though, probably not.
