"The Lakers hope to get Pippen on a minimum $1.4-million deal. Insiders say 1) Scottie won't work that cheap and 2) Portland owner Paul Allen is likely to offer a $10-million, two-year deal just to keep him away from the Lakers. Similarly, the Kings are wooing every free agent they think the Lakers want and will probably offer Clark an extension, to keep him away from the Lakers."

:D that's pretty funny- the kings and blazers rae doing whatever they can, by any means, to prevent the lakers from improving.

...one more Laker thread and I might just throw up on the next person I see wearing a Kobe jersey.

Shaq was "contained" by D-Rod in 96. The Lakers would have no hope in hell against the greatest team of all time, the 95-96 Bulls.

edit: Lmao at Limpz thread :D

Even if they got rid of everyone except Shaq, Kobe, Fisher, Horry, Fox and George, as you suggested in the other thread, they'd be $8.5 million over the cap - with no more than their mid-level exception to spend. There's no way they can clear that much cap room without getting rid of all but Shaq and Kobe - and even then, it's only around $4 million anyway.

yer it seems that not many laker fans relise kobe and shaq make up for 30+million of the lakers salary.

they must be the bandwagoners

but i have already showed a possible way for the lakers to get p.j brown and gary payton

Well we know that the Lakers are going to make quite a few moves in the offseason, and there's a high chance that people like Brian Shaw won't be back though.

But there's a certain free agent out there, that is looking to play for a championship callibor team, in order to win a champioship next year. And no doubts the "Mail man" Karl Malone will be hearing from the Lakers in the offseason.

Who knows, Nash, Finley, & Nowitzki, are the NBA's best trio... Next year we could have the best trio in NBA history; O'Neal, Byrant, & Malone?

Kinda has a ring to it, doesn't it?

LOL...!

But like I said elsewhere, one of the reasons Malone feels sleighted by the Jazz is because they are not going to offer him the amount of money he feels he's worth. He's currently getting $19 million. The Lakers can't offer anywhere near that. With money obviously a factor, it's hard to believe that the Mailman will settle for the MLE - not impossible, of course, but improbable.

(Why do I get the feeling I'll have to eat my words in the offseason? I really should stop making predictions.)

But I still feel fairly confident in saying the Lakers won't acquire the five free agents mentioned earlier, nor four, not three, and even two seems a stretch. In a perfect world, these guys would realise they could form an almost unstoppable force (on paper, if nothing else) if they took a pay cut. But this is the NBA - they're probably not going to.

PJ Brown, Juwan Howard, even Scottie Pippen might work for the MLE or the veteran's minimum, but I don't see Karl Malone, Alonzo Mourning or Gary Payton taking that kind of pay cut, just yet.

Like you said, I can't see them getting 3 of these guys. If I was a laker fan, I'd be happy with getting Juwan Howard, and just hope (like every fan does for his team) for no injuries.
