Maybe if the crushable opinions start to fade away...

Then there will be no opinions period.

Every post I made in this thread expresses an argument. Every post anyone makes expresses an argument. Despite the continued attempts, it is impossible to post without one.

Why would I bother to put out boring "Celtics in four" claims? I would have to develop an argument and I simply did not have the time to evaluate the various series without making predictions or claims based on "feel." (Something I did do in voting in each poll.) The point of doing so is simply for self-gratification when right, and not anything that even borders on interesting. Except for a few minor instances, nearly no one even provided arguments for their claims of why one team would win over another. And an even smaller segment did it without repeating baseless memes.

"Pistons in five" is basically borderline spam. It makes a claim, but makes no argument. You can't respond to it. It's something for ESPN columns/features, not a discussion board.

Yeah, but you don't have any opinions. If I say "Kevin Durant is better than Jeff Green", you would argue that by some statistic, Green is better; but if I say "Jeff Green is better than Kevin Durant", you will argue that Durant is the better player.

Aside of the spammers and one-and-done posters, most of us don't vote based on "feel", we make educated guesses. If you follow the NBA, it isn't that hard. You have enough time to dismantle all of our arguments, but not the time to devise your own?

Yes, "pistons in five" is spam, and that is why are are a respected member, while guys like Sanguango and +deidei+ aren't. But like I said, plenty of our posts have an opinion based on facts.

I don't have any opinions? Really?

You're all confused by something I stated in another thread. I have no reason to post if I agree or have nothing to add. I don't see the point, I'm not adding anything I'm just wasting time. Therefore you only see posts where I am not fully in agreement or think I have some extra perspective to add. I blatantly post "opinions" in General Talk.

Educated guesses are the same as "feel." If I was going to post my predictions I would look at the players and what exactly they do, how the team is expected to shorten it's rotation, etc. Making a quick ten minute evaluation of faulty arguments others make is a drop in the bucket to what I would do before posting a prediction. I do not post a lot of things I evaluate because of what someone posted.

I understand that a lot of peoples claims are backed by unstated arguments, but it is so fucking boring to just make the claims. It's why I was a dick and asked for explanations in the awards thread. If someone just makes a claim, all the work is on the responder to assume an argument, and that the person is not just in love with the player. I was going to post more detailed awards analysis from the "feel/opinions" I posted but I have not had the time.

I could have posted my "feel" picks, which were based strongly on glancing at point differential, records at home/away and records against conferences. But everyone expects a lot more. I expect a lot more.

How can you compare me with a guy who has almost 6 years in the forum while im only one... could you please stop critizicing people Lamrock?!

Sat Apr 26, 2008 3:44 pm

Almost six years? I've wasted at least a decade...

Sat Apr 26, 2008 3:57 pm

Could you stop spamming Sanguango?! Until you actually make posts with a point, and differentiate with the one-and-done posters, then I will stop mentioning to you when I refer to bad forum members. I'm surprised you caught that though. Maybe you do read posts.

benji, Well... Thank you for explaining what your definition of "feel" was. I thought it was just a slightly random decision based on gut feeling.

I enjoy making claims like that and giving my two cents. It is one of the reasons I post here. To each his own.

BTW, benji, do you have a favorite team/player, or are you a non-biased authority?

Sat Apr 26, 2008 4:24 pm

I do not have a favorite team really, I guess I'm partial to the Pistons because I live in Michigan and can see pretty much every game of theirs. I also love Darko and Tim Duncan along with random players that change every month.

Look, I'm not any different from anyone else in my biases, I just try to keep it away from my posts. I know there is no objective reality, but I try to get rid of my literally insane subjective reality.

I posted the stats in hopes in generating some discussion over the other rookies. Really, I don't try to pick fights, I just want to posit other theories to generate discussion. It's so boring when people post just opinions and ignore the other posts. I think some of the other rookies might be more useful to winning, but everyone else will be caught up in the guys who played the most.

I think I told you once, nothing I do is personal, I just want to have fun discussions, I could care less if someone thinks one thing over another, I'm just more interested in why people think that, and like to provide evidence to the contrary to spark such theory discussion. I do not really care if someone decides something different that me, I just like to push the counterarguments. But that is just stating the obvious.

Sat Apr 26, 2008 5:02 pm

I think you misread my posts a bit.

You have never offended me or even pissed me off on these forums. The only reasons I brought this up were out of curiosity, and to call you out for seeming to always have a contrary opinion.

I'm not an easily offended guy; in fact, I've lately become the forum asshole (something I should definitely work on, since I'm not good enough to fit the part). I enjoy fun discussions just as much as the next guy. Just because I call you out sometimes doesn't mean its personal, and I understand where you are coming from. Again; to each their own.

EDIT: Damn it, something needs to be done about these forums. They are down 90% of the time.

Sun Apr 27, 2008 3:39 am

Where did I assume you were offended or pissed off? Why would I think someone rational has been pissed off by me talking about my posting motivations after they questioned them?

That didn't end with a period, and requires the remainder for context. Plus, it was about me. Comma splices > Kevin Durant.

Sun Apr 27, 2008 5:12 am

My bad. I misinterpreted it. Chris Paul > Comma Splices

Short answer, the previous round of troubleshooting has failed us (again) so it's back to the drawing board to find a permanent solution.
