Just like Charlotte -_-

Vancouver Blazers
Las Vegas Hornets
Kansas City Clippers
ST. Louis Hawks
and Jacksonville Grizzlies

the fanbase has drastically improved, and lots of people were choked that heisley moved the franchise to memphis.

got this off another forum, but:

Vancouver Grizzlies Attendance

Year Total Avg
2000-01 563,218 13,737
1999-00 569,864 13,899
1998-99 417,966 16,719
1997-98 660,457 16,109
1996-97 679,422 16,571
1995-96 704,489 17,183

Atlanta Hawks Attendance

2003-04 565,738 13,798
2002-03 528,655 12,894
2001-02 506,110 12,344
2000-01 560,330 13,667
1999-00 601,138 14,662

really, our attendance figures weren't that bad. and like i said, our fanbase is growing -- people actually talk about basketball now, and when you hit up pubs or bars, they actually show raptors or phoenix games and people are definitely into it.

comeeeeeee to vancouveeeeeeeerrrrr!

Thu Mar 16, 2006 3:42 pm

You can't really compare them to Atlanta and say "they weren't that bad", because Atlanta's are god awful.. not mentioning the fact that they suck. Plus as those statistics show, the attendance averages for Vancouver were actually dropping quite drastically... while Atlanta's are slowly getting higher.

Thu Mar 16, 2006 3:47 pm

just illustrating that if atlanta's god forsaken franchise can be kept in atlanta even with their atrocious attendance, vancouver should get that chance too. i mean, i know it's not the most logical choice, but i know i'd be happy :D and pretty much that's all that matters.

What happened? Please tell.

i'm guessing that is sarcasm.

but i posed that question in response to bang's comment to illustrate that city's generally get a second chance.

new orleans jazz -> utah jazz -> new orleans hornets
charlotte hornets -> new orleans hornets -> charlotte bobcats

Indeed it was.

vancouver grizzlies -> memphis grizzlies -> vancouver trail blazers?

If they did move the team to Vanouver, do you think they would change the name? To me atleast, Vancouver Trail Blazers, or even Vancouver Blazers, it doesn't really fit... I don't know... that's just me though...

 then I hope you've got 23,000 friends to drag along with you to every game, otherwise it'll be a very short stay for the new Vancouver Blizzlies.

Thu Mar 16, 2006 3:51 pm

they would keep the same name i think, i can't see why they'd change it. never would a team name have meant so much to a city

Yeah, but... do they really want to be known as that? ;)

Thu Mar 16, 2006 3:54 pm

i don't really see how anyone could expect any city not named new york to mantain a good attendance average after sucking for so many years in a row. You can't blame them for not having as much enthusiasm for a team that has never gone anywhere, and apparently wasn't going anywhere. Add the fact that the team had no history to at least feed the fan base and you get what you got. Even an expansion team should've shown even a glimmer of playoff hope at one point during the grizzlies tenure. toronto did. I mean when the raps were showcasing vince and tmac, what who were the grizz showing off? big country?

the only reason vancouver shoudln't get a basketball city compared to the other cities in the running is because of the canadian economy. i think the fan base would be enormous if the team showed any type of success.

Thu Mar 16, 2006 3:57 pm

So in conclusion, the Canadians here think it's a good idea

Thu Mar 16, 2006 4:01 pm

thats nothing new. would you even watch a miluwakee game if it weren't for andrew booger?

i don't neccessarily think its a good idea, but i dont think that its a bad idea based on fanbase as you imply. I think its a bad idea because of the economy. I think the fanbase is better than any other city that doesn't have a basketball team right now, and better than some.

Thu Mar 16, 2006 4:03 pm

i dont see portland moving...too much history

The fanbase isn't just about numbers, it's also about that nation's interest in that particular sport. Canada seems too preoccupied with hockey to care about a basketball team that would fully struggle for at least the first 3 seasons.

Thu Mar 16, 2006 4:08 pm

 pleeaassee come to vancouver... hockey is :lame: (N)

Thu Mar 16, 2006 4:10 pm

look at texas. thats a football state and yet they have 3 basketball teams. Just because canadians in general like hockey, doesnt mean all canadians like hockey, and doesn't mean they can't do and like two things at once. almost any fanbase, not just vancouvers, will struggle if the team isn't succesful. the average fan is far from loyal.

Texas isn't a separate country, and their basketball teams (with the exception of Houston this season) are all good.

ouch. please, not this again. this is going to drive me to suicide. he is essentially why we kept bringing in shitty dipfucks because we were spending all the cash on him and we couldn't afford shit. but hey, we had mike bibby and he was pretty good :) everyone loved bibby

why hasn't colin joined in on this conversation? he should be pissing his pants by now

well vancouver isn't a country either. If you're going to say that canada shouldn't have a team because canadians like hockey better, then hey, i'm allowed to say americans shouldn't have teams either because they like football better. australians love rugby, maybe they shouldn't be hosting a grand slam tennis tournament. Just beause people in a city like another sport better than another, doesn't mean they don't have room for another.

But when that city has already had a team recently and blew it, maybe the league should reconsider.

Thu Mar 16, 2006 4:29 pm

i don't think the city blew it, i think the team blew it. like i said no market is going to support a team for that long that doesn't even have potential to win. our most exciting player was what? shareef and his bitch swipes at the refs? felipe lopez? mike bibby is a good player, but not exactly a crowd drawer by himself on a losing team. why do you think memphis traded bibby for jason williams straight up the first thing they moved? everyone knew then and now that bibby is a better player, but jason at the time was far more of a crowd drawer.

There's no guarantee anything would be different second time around. I mean Portland's not going to keep this unit together forever and there's no guarantees all of the players will want to move to Canada... I never did understand why certain players didn't want to live/play in Canada, but alas they do. I mean Telfair for instance, can you picture him playing for a Canadian team?

Thu Mar 16, 2006 10:16 pm

A basketball team cant do any worse than the canucks, either way, hockey or basketball detroit owns!

Thu Mar 16, 2006 10:30 pm

nah i dont think the team will go to vancouver im almost certain the next team will go to las vegas when theyve ironed out the complications.

Fri Mar 17, 2006 2:17 am

I would LIKE to see this happen, but realistically it isnt. One point has already been brought up, is that there is too much history in Potland already. Secondly, i doubt that any of the current players on the roster would actually want to play in Vancouver. What good would it be if it did move back to Vancouver, only to have players on the team not want to play?
