Unless he plays for your team, or has raped your dog or something it's a bit toolish to wish someone would retire.
In a twisted way that is what I am trying to say.

Ok, this is ridiculous for me to even be defending a comment that I didn't even make.
I'm sure he wanted a great career in the NBA, so did I. Feel sorry for me, please. I wanted to dominate and be like Michael Jordan. Boo hoo! The difference is I didn't get millions of dollars for being...well, awful.
Believe it or not, people don't always get what they want in life. Jon Bender just learned a hard life lesson. He can still play pick-up games or join another league and dominate. I don't care what he does, but to feel "sorry" for him not making it big in the NBA is just plan weird. Thousands of people don't make the NBA a year, do you feel "sorry" for them all?

i don't feel sorry for bender, it is not that he will never walk again or something like that, i feel sorry for the pacers who spent millons of dollars on him for nothing, lol.
Fri Dec 02, 2005 7:19 am
I didn't read the entire thread? But who said you should feel sorry for him? I don't feel sorry for him, don't feel sorry for the Pacers either.

It started when Carmo called out Anthony15 and called them the "worst person" for wishing Bender to retire.

Every team makes a mistake like this. In this case, Bender had a real good potential, but injury got in the way, which is something no one can predict. Again, every team makes this sort of mistake.... some team tends to make a lot of mistakes when it comes to drafting, aquiring, and trading players though... *cough* Raptors *cough*
Fri Dec 02, 2005 7:42 am
I think what Carmo meant is that wanting someone to retire because of injuries (like Bender) is a big harsh and I agree with that.
Anthony15 didn't say he wanted Bender to retire though, he just wouldn't mind. And I agree with that too.
I don't care if someone who made millions as a basketball player has to retire while he actually had no chance of really playing basketball (as in 'a career') from the get-go?

We were the ones who traded Bender for Antonio Davis though.

I don't think Vince Carter would mind retiring early, since he doesn't really seem to have a strong passion for basketball.
Fri Dec 02, 2005 8:30 am
I'd probably retire if they stopped me listening to my iPod on the court too.

Yeah thats what I meant. I guess I didn't read his post entirely the way he meant it either, lol.

Bender?..who's that?..the skinny bench warmer with high shoulders? He wont be missed.

Considering that NBA teams have operating budgets over $100 million, i can't feel all that bad that some poor kid lucked into several million for himself & his family.
Sun Feb 05, 2006 11:35 am
do the pacers still have to pay him the remaining salary?
Sun Feb 05, 2006 11:43 am
Maes, its not all about money. I'm sure when he was growing up, he wanted to be in the NBA becuase loved basketball, not to be paid.
I hope he stays around the game, becomes a coach on some level or a commentator.

The Knicks have to pay Allan Houston, so I would assume so. They will probably agree to a buy out though.
Sux for bender... He had skills.

i think if they have insurance, insurance picks up 70 something odd percent of his contract but after reading how ths guy had knee and back problems in high school, im sure that he probably didn't get insured
Sun Feb 05, 2006 12:15 pm
A disappointing end to his career. As I said back in December when the new first surfaced, he was one of my flavour of the month players to acquire in seasons of NBA Live for a while there. Even though it's difficult to feel sorry for someone who's secured themselves that kind of financial security by the age of 25, I'm sure he would prefer to be playing basketball and earning that money on the court, as well as living the dream so many of us have and so few of us get to realise.

i feel bad for the guy because this guy imho could have had an allstar filled career if he was healthy and had the desire as some of you have said. A 7 footer that can block, has hops, can shoot, and play guard?

now thats deadly.

the first article said that he was 100% insured.

Just saw this on a couple of other sites. Sucks for him. He might've been a bust considering how early he was picked but he was a decent player. Too bad about his injuries
Mon Feb 06, 2006 12:58 am
Bender was one of the greatest players in NBA live... A 7 footer with amazing leaping ability and could shoot the three two.
Its a shame he couldn't battle the injuries he suffered, he would have been another one of my favourite players.
Mon Feb 06, 2006 2:32 am
Injuries are a motherfudger.
Mon Feb 06, 2006 12:01 pm
injuries have ruined countless careers.... another sad story
