That's promising. Or a sign that Jax has disengaged.

So what offense will Hornacek run? What is his philosophy on defense? All I know is that he like run and gun, up tempo, and 3s game which means modern pretty much.
So it's neither the Phil's Triangle or Jerry Sloan's Flex offense? Or hybrid?

Stats guys say that Horny had the Suns ranked #2 in offence playing an uptempo system with plenty of movement so also good news.

happy for knicks fan. from too many pg's to some questions marks at the position now for Horny

Can't we get a coach who emphasizes defense??? Knicks haven't played any since Van Gundy left.
Tue May 24, 2016 11:04 pm
Not like you really have the players for that though.

Defense is all about effort, not talent.

This is odd Phil Jackson is using a player he beat many times in the past to coach his team.

This. JJ Redick does not share the same athletic abilities as most of the perimeter players he has to guards
Wed May 25, 2016 2:22 am
When your best player doesn't show any effort on defense I doubt any other guys will.
Wed May 25, 2016 10:12 am
I believe the bleacher report had an article out earlier in the season about Anthony's improvement on defense, citing his surgically repaired knee no longer bothering him as well as a significant improvement on defending the 3pt shot

KP does play defence

I know we are really taking about Melo here and it's really an old statement that he doesn't try on D when you watch the games the effort is there he's just not the best defender but I believe the advanced stats show him as being right up there in certain fields. But don't quote me on that.
Wed May 25, 2016 7:27 pm
I wouldn't expect A effort on D from Melo for the same reason you don't from Kobe and likes. Look at Harden, he unlearned how to play D upon leaving the Thunder. Melo I guess just never bothered to learn D in the first place.
Wed May 25, 2016 9:17 pm
I think he got catch up in high school/college and his early days in the nba where he could score so easily that people overlooked his D but you would expect him to of put more effort in when he was younger, I wish he was a better defender but if you watch every knicks game depressingly like I do not you will see he does try more the last few years but I like said not everyone in the nba is a great defender but rest a sure every player can score if you don't defend them

It's finally official, part of me thought the deal would go wrong leaving the only coach left... Rambis...
Sun Jun 05, 2016 4:33 am
Hornacek is as good as it can get for the Knicks. Who else wants to come to Knicks and deal with mess of management? It's in owners and GMs nature to shift blames to coaches. What high profile available guys want to weather the storm, I don't think too many.
Hornacek is a smart guy with experience under belt. He can improve and is a great character. This could be a long term move. Let's not act like there's a quick fix to current Knicks problems.
Sun Jun 05, 2016 10:34 am
Hornacek's a relatively fresh face who showed promise in his first coaching gig, which was ultimately brought down by the team falling apart before it could grow together. Like I said before, at the very least, he's not Kurt Rambis. You could probably call it a solid if unspectacular hiring; worth a try, if nothing else.
Sun Jun 05, 2016 1:35 pm
Don't believe Phil's spin-doctoring at that press conference. Rambis was his guy all along, but he couldn't sell that to the fans, media, players and probably Dolan.
There's no way Rambis can remain on the coaching staff. He'd be viewed as a spy for Jackson.
Sun Jun 05, 2016 4:00 pm
We all know Rambis will be named an assistant for the knicks no doubt.
Mon Jun 06, 2016 7:11 pm
So it appears that Horny has the last say on who he wants as his assistances but from watching the press conference he seems to be open to having Rambis there or that's what I took from it anyway.
Mon Jun 06, 2016 8:26 pm
Perhaps Rambis can be helpful and have a positive impact in that role, though the threat of him stepping into the top job again would seem to loom if he remains on the staff in any capacity.
Tue Jun 07, 2016 1:22 pm
So Phil gave in to the pressure. Who's really running the team here? Melo?
Tue Jun 07, 2016 5:54 pm
Dolan, I'd say.
Either way, I'm guessing that if Jackson really wanted Rambis, he'd have made it happen. Doing whatever he pleases by playing the "I'm in charge" card hasn't exactly gotten the Knicks anywhere, though. While you don't want the inmates running the asylum, it's also wise to listen to other key figures on the team, and consider how you might have erred in your previous approach, when making your next decision.
Thu Jun 09, 2016 2:29 am
All the knicks insiders say that Phil pressed hard for Rambis but the pressure from Dolan, Melo, media and fans made Jackson pick someone else here tho many say it was Dolan in Phils ear more than anything I still wouldn't be surprised to see Rambis named an assistant which is still stupid imo when the guy has achieved nothing coaching wise in this league but Phil acts like he's Tex Winters.
Thu Jun 09, 2016 9:35 am
I'd say that in this instance, that pressure was a good thing. Jackson's decisions as an executive haven't exactly lived up to his accomplishments as a coach, and Rambis doesn't have the track record to inspire confidence with ownership or key players, nor the fans. Like I said, you don't want the inmates running the asylum, but this might be saving Jackson from himself.
