Re: Anthony, Nuggets look ready to part ways

If they can avoid taking on any bad contracts, get some draft picks and a couple of decent young players with potential, I'd expect them to pull the trigger on something around the deadline. That's when there'll be teams looking to make a deal to try and put themselves over the top, willing to trade potential and the unknown for a chance at renting a player like Melo for half a season and a playoff run with a shot at retaining him or getting something in a sign-and-trade in the offseason.

NEW YORK -- Carmelo Anthony has told the Denver Nuggets he will not sign the nearly $65 million contract extension he has been offered unless he is traded to the New York Knicks, a source told ESPN.com on Sunday.

...

And while other franchises might be able to make better offers, Anthony will not agree to sign anywhere long-term unless he is dealt to New York, according to the source, who has been privy to private discussions between Anthony, his representatives and the Nuggets organization.

The source spoke to ESPN.com after Denver's 129-125 loss to New York on Sunday afternoon as the Knicks won their eighth straight game.

I would love to see Anthony in Knicks, but only if Knicks don't lose too many good and for them important players (like Gallinari,Fields,Chandler,Felton...)

Maybe Curry + Chandler/Gallinari and a draft pick will be enough to bring Melo to the Knicks

The Knicks are an excellent offensive team that is subpar defensively. Adding a blackhole who doesn't play D won't make the team much better, if at all - especially is it means they lose Gallinari, who has been better than Melo this season.

right now I dont think the Knicks need him.....just wait it out or give shitty trade offers to Denver and see if they can pull a Pau Gasol out of it. Knicks could wait for the off season and pick Melo up then right?

The Knicks have all the leverage in this situation. They can simply offer Curry + Gallo/Randolph for Carmelo. The Nuggets would rather do this then to lose Carmelo for nothing in the off-season. Unless a team is dumb enough to trade a lot to rent him for the rest of the season.

Worst case scenario, the Knicks will very likely have a shot to sign him in the offseason. Even if the Nuggets trade him elsewhere, he's indicated he's not signing an extension unless he's headed to New York, which is probably going to somewhat limit interest in him anyway.

Funny how Melo smirks in this photo. As if he's going "tee hee..."

For what it's worth, he's denying the ultimatum.

Asked in an interview with FanHouse if he believes a deal is imminent, Anthony said, "No.''

Anthony, who has yet to sign a three-year, $64.47 million extension that is on the table and can become a free agent next summer, was back in Denver after scoring 31 points Sunday against the Knicks, the team many believe he wants to join. ESPN.com reported after the Knicks' 129-125 win at Madison Square Garden that Anthony has told the Nuggets he only would sign the extension if traded to New York .

But Anthony emphatically denied that report.

"No,'' Anthony said when asked if there's any truth to it. "I haven't talked to Masai (Ujiri, the Nuggets executive vice president of basketball operations) about who I would sign an extension with, and who I want to sign with. I've never had that conversation.''

I hope this is true. I want Melo to go to NJ, and the trade that gets Devin Harris in Charlotte resurrected.

I just heard that New York is going after Carmelo and it will involve several 1st round picks if the deal goes through, just heard it today.

Hasn't that been common knowledge/speculation for some time now?

Another blockbuster trade in the making?

The Nets and Nuggets are working towards a complicated multi-team trade proposal that would send Carmelo Anthony to New Jersey, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

Anthony is expected to accept a contract extension with the Nets following a trade if the team is able to bring back a package of significant talent with him, according to league sources.

So far, packages include some of Anthony's Denver teammates -- including Al Harrington.

"The way this is structured now, the Nets will significantly upgrade their team," said one league executive.

The other teams involved in the talks aren't yet known.

Currently, the Nets are preparing to send Derrick Favors, Troy Murphy, two or three first-round picks and $3 million to the Nuggets for Anthony and Harrington. More players from both sides would likely be involved.

According to a source, Brook Lopez is the only player the Nets haven't involved in any scenario.

No deal is imminent, but sources involved in the talks believe that early January is a realistic target.

We should stop calling these blockbuster trades considering that not only does it stem from something racist, but Blockbuster Video went bankrupt.

Oh, and we knew of that possible deal way back in like June.

This one is different from that one. That one was going to be with Charlotte and Utah as well. I almost don't hope Charlotte gets involved because we might be shopping Wallace and Jackson.  :shake:

Assuming there's absolutely no way Melo is staying, I'd pull the trigger on that if I were Denver. First round picks, a young player with potential and an expiring contract wouldn't be a bad start to a new rebuilding phase.
