Wow... USA will be 1st at groups. I.R. Iran and Tunisia? Easy.

I don't know why everyone is so surprised. Brazil has a good team. Splitter is better than Varejao too.

Its surprising that Brazil beat USA despite being without Nene. Unsurprising that Derrick Rose played like shit.

Brazil didn't need Nene to beat the States. :P

US can win this tourney but it's not going to be an easy task. They should be worried about the top European sides that they will encounter.

On an additional note, I've been impressed with Yi Jianlian. I'm just not sure if he will do so well against the better teams in their group. But he is still averaging 26.5 ppg, 11 rpg. Hopefully he still averages a double double by the end of the tourney! I don't hold high hopes as I still remember his 13 points, 7 rebounds performance in an exhibition against Puerto Rico.

Much better game for the Aussies, caught a bit of it early in the morning but had to crash at the end of the third quarter. Good to see they didn't find a way to throw it away. I'd imagine things would be a little different if Dirk were playing.

Would have been different if Germany wasn't coming off a 2OT win against the Serbs less than 24 hours prior. I'm not complaining. We can top the group if results fall our way. :)

Fatigue was a major factor in their loss against Australia.. They don't have enough gas to beat the Aussies..

Banana Splitter played very well against USA. He should be great for the Spurs. (Too bad X didn't get much out of him in his dynasty)

Angola is competing at every tournament... Because they are the best team of Africa. Not this year.

That's somewhat accurate, it's more accurate to say that each continent is granted at least one team no matter how bad they are. For example, Oceania got two teams this year, shockingly the only two teams that tried got in. I can see why the USA doesn't take this seriously when FIBA doesn't. (Not that anyone does, although the NBA could use more obvious tanking and subterfuge.)

If anything the 2002 USA team was the perfect one. 2004 was pretty great as well simply because of Larry Brown plus the players afraid of terrorists.

I guess I wonder if anyone actually thinks that if USA Basketball could conscript players they wouldn't always win, what's the point? The Dream Team proved this. Just send who wants to go. Who gives a shit? The whole country thing is stupid, McDonalds Championship was better, and the FIBA intention with the NBA champion is also better. Teams who have been built together is so much better than near random guys who team up every other year just because of birth or citizenship.

I'd much rather watch some kind of NBA Final Four + Euro Final Two + Two Other Good Teams than any stupid nation deal. Whys it gotta be all nationalistic.

Every continent is given at least one spot in order for the sport to grow. The tournament was expanded to try and promote the game. I don't think this is 'not taking it seriously'.

Oceania only have two countries with national teams but I think even if there was only one spot, New Zealand/Australia still are good enough to make it in the wildcard tournament. It's not like either country sucks either, there are far worse teams around. I think the two spots are well deserved.

I, for one, do give a shit about this tournament. Just because USA didn't take it seriously in the past just proves a certain stereotype. All of the elite national teams have been built from the grassroots, these guys have played together since they were teenagers. National programs like Spain and Argentina and even Australia have been together much longer than NBA teams that have been 'built together'. Team USA may be assembled by 'throwing random guys together'. It ain't a reflection of the rest of the world.

He will be great for the Spurs. I should've stashed him in Europe for half a decade & he would've been great for me too :P He would've been effective a few years down the line in my one, just needed some time :P

Bundan dolayı memnunum. Bir de eski Stefanel Milano'nun hocası ile uğraşamazdım.

On-topic: Russia defeated Cote d'Ivoire 72-66. Elephants lost their chances. Last match will be an important exam of them... as their future.

If he is banned, then I think probably because of you :xmas:

@Badger Take it easy bro (Bunlar senden ne istiyorlar, bi anlam veremedim) :hump:

Edit: That was a boring game between China and PR :P

China is a really boring team sorry, but I expected more real to me now is not only because Yao Ming has been missing over. He is the biggest bore. Even a little Nate Robinson had blocked him :headbang:

I saw a T-shirt at a Cote d'Ivoire fan. It wrote something that it says Elephants.
And first of all, I'm not a racist. If I would be racist I would write this: Afro-Arabians lost their chances.
