NY needs to lose the rest of the way and give Chicago a better chance for a higher pick, after all NY got Curry so they should thank them for it.

Sat Mar 31, 2007 1:32 pm

good effort vs the mavericks but the knicks came up short.
2.5 games out, 10 games remaining

Mon Apr 02, 2007 10:20 am

well now 3 games out, i think its over for the knicks playoff run... question is how good of a pick will the bulls get?

Here is an interesting stat..
Curry- 39blocks
Tyrus Thomas- 72blocks

for a rookie who averages 12minutes a game (850min total) vs. a "franchise player" center(who averages 35min a game..2,530min total) thats horrible.

Their rebounding numbers are also very comparable over the last month or so.

April 21, 2007 -- Former Knicks great Walt Frazier will ask Isiah Thomas if he can work with rookie guard Marty Collins this offseason, The Post has learned.

Frazier said he wants the chance to work with Collins for a few days this spring because he sees himself in the 6-foot-6 rookie - a tall, tough-defending guard with deceptive quickness and a cool demeanor, but sans a jump shot. Frazier, now a Knicks broadcaster, developed a perimeter game after a few seasons.

"I'm going to ask Isiah because there's a few things I can show him," Frazier told The Post on Wednesday in Charlotte, N.C. "Once you get in the paint, control your body. Things very simple that he's not thinking about."

Frazier's desire to work with Collins is unprecedented. Frazier has stayed away from coaching and never attends practice.

Collins said he remembers two years ago after a Temple-Duke game Blue Devils coach Mike Krzyzewski told the media Collins reminded him of Frazier.

"He's a legend," Collins said of Frazier. "I'd definitely be interested in working with him."

Frazier, who played for the Knicks from 1967-77, said he would like to work with Collins on his offensive play around the basket.

"When he gets in the paint, the move he has to develop is the one I had, the head-and-shoulder fake, he doesn't have," Frazier said. "He makes the move and shoots right way. He needs to give (the defense) a little deception once he stops."

Collins' emergence was a silver lining to the final two weeks of the Knicks' season. Thomas has changed his view on Collins and looks at him as next season's backup point guard, which could force Nate Robinson further down the bench. Collins started the last nine games, averaging 15.0 points. 6.6 rebounds and 6.2 assists.

from the ny post, knicks offseason begins on a good note

from realgm... thought this was interesting.. the knicks since the patrick ewing trade
as suggested by nykman
I researched and put this chart together.

http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/3320/nykplotsjm1.jpg
Starting point is the ewing trade denoted with horizontal green line. Plotted per month based on record. Interim plots of important transactions or injuries included and documented. Season ending plots extended horizontally in orange lines. It's not meant to be an exact science, it's meant to be both fun and enlightening.

pretty good graph with the major transactions

I absolutely love this quote from Marbury, he'll be a great GM one day. He clearly recognizes the gaping hole NY has in shooting guards.

Stephon Marbury said yesterday he'd like to see president/coach Isiah Thomas add another perimeter shooter in the June 28 NBA draft, in which the Knicks hold the 23rd pick.

"It would be great to have a guy like Steve Kerr," Marbury told The Post.

"To get a shooter, somebody like that style of player, that's something you don't have a lot of in the league, shooters like Kerr, Glen Rice. It would be great to get somebody to shoot the ball and keep people honest."

I think Starbury learned the art of sarcasm. Yey for him.
Or he finally embraces the role of a point and wants to distribute more.
Or he just hates Jamal Crawford.

well, to be fair, there really isn't a pure spot up shooter on the knicks, most of those guys prefer to dribble and shoot, so he may be on to something.

i agree that he does have a point that those kind of players do keep people honest. the problem i see is, why worry about that shooter if you know he aint gonna get the ball cept for busted plays?

Wed Jun 13, 2007 6:41 am

Also, their first option Eddy Curry isn't exactly a passing bigman. He's also an offensive blackhole.

Wed Jun 13, 2007 6:58 am

at the best an uncoachable shooting guard in the body of a point guard whos earning a lot too much money. thats what they need and did not find yet

perhaps if players keep honest on the perimiter, it'll give more space for marbury to drive, and curry in the paint. Of course their first priority should be to get rid of francis, crawford, and perhaps q, but i think a team built around curry, lee, and marbury could work if it weren't for the attitudes of some of the supporting cast. I agree ny does not need, team-wise, a steve kerr, more like a brent barry, also they still need a solid battier-like sf, i don't think balkman is starter material, and he feels more like a sf/pf anyway. same with jeffries. But i don't think he's wrong in saying the team needs more players with the mentality of a steve kerr who don't neccessarily need or want to star (statistically speaking). you can see jamal, francis, q, and marbury trying to coexist, but you can just feel they are not satisfied - which of course is a very dangerous mentality to have in a locker room. these are guys that get down on themselves very easily, which is contagious. the locker room needs some presence, i'm not saying someone like kerr would pull it together, but it would be a start. as it is though, i think marbury might be right about needing some spot ups, because the zone can annihalte this team.

Portland gets:
Steve Francis, Channing Frye

New York gets:
Zach Randolph, Dan Dickau and Fred Jones

basically francis contract and frye for zach randolph.

good move by the knicks? I think it was an OK move in a sense they got rid of steve francis for something.... but randolph contract is a bit big :?
plus this means Lee will still come off the bench and no chance at being a starter..

Fri Jun 29, 2007 1:53 pm

cant wait to see the new look knicks.

Sat Jun 30, 2007 8:31 am

i think the knicks made a pretty good move. but nothing spectacular. it is a good chance to leave steve francis (hopefully he will play at his best with oden).
but maybe randolph and curry is too much at the frontcourt. they should look out for a small forward or shooting guard, i think.

Sat Jun 30, 2007 8:38 am

Nice move by Portland in my opinion. I think if given ample time on the court Francis will do pretty well for them and I gotta say they look like a very exciting team for next season. I wish Frye all the best as well.

Interesting to see how well Randolph does in New Yourk, I am optimistic but at the same time hesitant to give a full thumbs up. Maybe 3/4ths the way up.

Sat Jun 30, 2007 9:36 am

for sure both teams took a risk.

Sun Jul 01, 2007 6:29 am

Steve Francis is not going to wear a Portland uniform, he is being bought out. Rumor has it that he actually had the buyout agreement with the Knicks and it was traded with him. This deal was to get Randolph out due to his bad attitude, not to acquire another bad attitude.

Sun Jul 01, 2007 7:44 am

The Knicks also got Demetris Nichols from the Blazers which is a great move.
