It's a shame we can't have the TNT crew during the NBA Finals. The series for all the marbles and we're stuck with the ESPN/ABC crew.

There's a reason for that, but if NBC was a real company and kept the rights they could've done what ABC did and had TNT take over their broadcasts but run it on the free channel. (Inverse of Law and Order!)
But like I said, NBC/GE isn't a real company so they probably would have never done that. And weren't even given a chance to because of how much they aren't a real company.
Let's be fair though, we peaked with NBA on NBC.
And it was entirely because of John Tesh.

The most important thing for me as a Mavs fan is to see that the Mavs can actually win games in which Dirk and Terry shoot very badly and no one really steps up to score 20+ points.
Sure, Marion did well, but it was the defense (and the poor shooting by OKC) that kept Dallas a big lead. Dirk & Terry won't shoot a combined 10-40 too often.

Every important game?

the thing is, Dirk contributed in other ways other than scoring. He played some good D (from what I saw in the 1st half) and the whole team did. And of course, Dirk still scored 10 in the 4th quarter.
It's not a big deal if no one scores 20+ as long as the whole team is involved and playing well.

Yeah, but they were leading by 23 at one point and with 1:30 left they were leading by only 4...

Boy that was the best NBA theme of all time!
For a minute I almost had tears running down my face because of how much I miss that theme song.

Exactly, but it wasn't in the last years where the Mavs could not compensate for one of their main guys not scoring 20+.
This year, you have guys like Chandler (always good for some alleys and 2nd chance points), Barea (playing out of his mind, driving & hitting threes), Peja (hitting threes) and even Deshawn Stevenson (good 8 points in game three).
Combine that with Nowitzki & Terry, who are nearly unstoppable in the pick & pop (as long as Terry makes the right decision) and a stellar J-Kidd who is still creating plays like 10 years ago and it's looking good on offense every game.
So D is the key for the Mavs.

i'm not exactly sure when NBC/Universal acquired these other channels, but the model ABC uses now could've easily been done with USA as the west finals instead of espn

NBA Universal formed in 2003 after the NBA had left them.
USA actually used to show NBA games for four or five years back at the start of the eighties before TBS swooped in with a then-massive offer.

Thread's been quiet today. Thunder are really pushing the ball upcourt. Chandler in foul trouble isn't too good. He hasn't had a huge impact this series, but he's our best defender.
Tue May 24, 2011 11:54 am
That was some hot shooting by both teams to start the second, very entertaining back and forth game.
Tue May 24, 2011 1:05 pm
Strange how the Mavs actually play shitty defense allowing the Thunder to shoot over .55% from the field and still managed to force 19 turnovers.
Four point game as we'e heading in the fourth.
Tue May 24, 2011 1:13 pm
Why isn't Nick Collinson starting?
Tue May 24, 2011 1:27 pm
Mavs can't hit anything. Game's over. .42% from the field ... and 6-22 from down town despite many good looks.
48 to 22 in rebounds - wow, that's ridiculous.
Tue May 24, 2011 1:33 pm
Tied series 2 a piece.
Still got 4:34 left in the regulation, but I don't see Mavs coming back. It's just one of those night. The ball's been bouncing in OKC's way all night long.

DIRK DIRK DIRK DIRK DIRK GONE CRAZY but Terry chokes.
Dirk threatening Kobe's greatness. Where benji at? What he got to say about it this time?
Tue May 24, 2011 1:41 pm
game's over huh? 2 point game. Let's go Mavs!

Thinking the same thing.
EDIT: Dirk nails biggest free throws of the career. 6 seconds to go. Hoping for OT atleast.

What a comeback by the Mavs! I thought they would've put a little extra time back on the clock but not a bad last attempt by the Mavs, great defense on the play beforehand to get that opportunity.
Tue May 24, 2011 1:51 pm
Sick stuff. Dirk's brilliance of offense, but also Kidd and the others defense made that possible. Great game, my buddy just went to bed when they were down by 15. I love this game (even if they lose this one, it was great).
Tue May 24, 2011 1:54 pm
Dirk singlehandedly put the Mavs in the Overtime. And seems like he's not done yet. But when he chokes, he chokes hard. Let's wait and see.
EDIT: 2 straight misses including an airball confirms that he's choking.

Thunder offense clearly doesn't work beardless.
