Did any of you catch the halftime Magic-Kobe interview?
It was so self-suck.
"You're the best"
"No, you're the best"
"Aww, no... common, you're the best!"
"No, I insist you're the best"
"I like your shoes"
"I like your lips"
"Oh, you mean these lips"
"Yeah baby, those same lips that kissed that trophy"
"They can kiss more than a trophy, you know..."

Even putting that aside though, if I were Phil Jackson I'd be reluctant to bring Kobe back in when it wasn't necessary, no need to risk him tweaking a knee or rolling an ankle when the game has basically been decided. In any case, the bottom line is the Lakers got the win in impressive fashion and now sit three victories away from the 2009 championship.Brave Sir Rubin wrote:Did any of you catch the halftime Magic-Kobe interview?

ESPN's coverage can be pretty annoying at times. I usually don't mind Jeff Van Gundy and Mark Jackson when they've got the call but I've found them irritating more often than not during these Playoffs.

Brave Sir Rubin wrote:I hate the ESPN crew. I agree, Jeff is actually pretty good and Mark can be o.k.
But oh man... Magic Johnson, and especially Chris Webber (when he appears) are complete idiots.
The entire half-time report usually consists of each crew member twisting the facts of the game in order to fit their predictions of that game without ever saying anything constructive.
At least the TNT crew is entertaining, not to mention the fact that Ernie is a basketball genius. I wish less dumb people watched basketball, it would be awesome if those half-time and pre-game reports were much more technical.

Exactly, I thought that three point shot by Powell or whatever his name is wasn't that sportsman like. The right thing to do would be to let the shot clock ran out, but I dont think they care with this lead.

To ESPN's credit, they bumped Stephen A. Smith from the halftime crew. I know there are people who like him, but he was too over the top for me, he seemed to be trying too hard to be controversial, funny and insightful at the same time and I just found it really grating. It's the bias that annoys me, other than that I usually like JVG, Jackson and even Jon Barry on the call. I think Mike Breen has become a really good NBA play-by-play guy as well, though I still prefer Marv Albert. I would certainly prefer it if TNT had the call during the Finals and at times I really miss the NBA on NBC coverage from the 90s.Modifly wrote:I thought bringing Kobe back in with a 25 point lead in the fourth so he could hit the 40 point mark was a bit off, as was the three point shot at the end of regulation

I thought that's what they were going to do when Vujacic was dribbling it out at half court. It's no crime against humanity, but I still think it's a bit off.
