Van Gundy-gate is still the best officiating story this playoffs.
That was so awesome, Van Gundy almost got banned for life from the NBA! It's like being excommunicated by the Pope for being a witch.

Eddie Johnson on the finals:
http://www.hoopshype.com/columns/finals_johnson.htm
His first question would be: How did Detroit make it back to the Finals?
Well, let's see. My response might be that they are the luckiest team in history when it comes to the opposition having key injuries during a playoff run. Jermaine O'Neal of the Pacers played basically with just one arm in the conference semifinals and Dwyane Wade went down with a bad back with his team up 3-2 in the conference finals.
Yeah, they do. Man, that Ginobili is unstoppable. Why is he so good?
It's hard to guard someone you can't catch. I don't think he even knows what he is going to do. He looks out of control, so I guess that's his secret. The defense tends to think he can't make that shot or get a pass through traffic. But time and time again, he gets it done.
Why does he flop so much? I think that's so phony.
Yeah, me too – but he is good at it. He does whatever it takes to win while also irritating fans in the process. He might be the first flopper in the history of the game that legitimately gets fouled 90 percent of the time.
I always see Robert Horry when I watch the playoffs. It seems like he is always in the Finals.
Yes, some people have all the luck. I played 17 years and sniffed the Finals four times, but lost in the conference finals every time. I hate him.
You are just kidding, right?
No, I do really do hate him – but in a respectful way.

Priceless
Am I the only person who noticed that when Beno Udrih comes in Detroit in going to trap him because he doesn't have the quickness to beat it. Dang, it was obvious in game 3.

Damn, the Spurs look awful. Detroit's turned up the heat, and San Antonio's wilting. Too careless with the ball.
Fri Jun 17, 2005 1:01 pm
Once again, those damn turnovers... San Antonio gotta start shakin it up... 3rd quarter..
Fri Jun 17, 2005 1:18 pm
the whole Detroit is on fire.. even the bench..
SA is no match in this game.
Fri Jun 17, 2005 1:35 pm
15 turnovers for the Spurs. WTF?
Fri Jun 17, 2005 1:50 pm
ya and 5 turnovers in like the first 3 minutes of the game
Fri Jun 17, 2005 1:53 pm
Even I hate Detroit sooo much.
But I'm so damn impressed with their defense...
13 steals?! Man...their little bit of bench were on fire!
Go Spurs! Win it 4-2!!

Only 4 turnovers for the Pistons, which is an NBA record as well. Pretty amazing, and Detroit played flawlessly. Anyone see that Lindsey Hunter dunk? I liked how Darko moved, and that spin move to score the 100th point was sweet. I'm looking forward to seeing how much better he can get over the years.
That being said, I'd like to pull up a random quote:

detroit is soooo overrated...

A very careless game by the Spurs, who really didn't look like they wanted to be there. Parker seems to have been forcing a lot of outside shots the last couple of games, he's shot a decent percentage but hasn't done a great job of distributing the ball. He doesn't average a great deal of assists but his numbers have decreased in each round, for the Finals he's averaging just over half his regular season mark. Surprised to see Ginobili score 12 points, Duncan's 16 and 16 was also pretty quiet. All in all, a very uninspiring effort by San Antonio.
The Pistons once again were making use of every San Antonio turnover. I anticipated the Spurs would win at least one of these three but I have to admit I'm not so sure now. I'd like to see a couple of these games remain competitive to the final buzzer.

I can't recall an NBA Finals as strange as this one. Every game's a blowout - go figure.

It seems the theme of this finals series is who can last until the 4th quarter. The winners seem to make that early 4th quarter run to win it.
Whats up with all those human interest stories/soap operas at half time???
Fri Jun 17, 2005 4:47 pm
The run came a lot earlier for the Pistons in Game 4. With the way the Spurs played in the second half, the game was basically decided during the second quarter.
Fri Jun 17, 2005 5:37 pm
Maybe a closer game 5?
hmmmm... if we've all learnt something in these past 2 games, it's that we shouldn't write off the Champs just yet.
Fri Jun 17, 2005 8:31 pm
another win and momentum and another home game.
both Manu and Duncan were shut down and it's great to have a 31pnt win despite a poor shooting game from the backcourt, but they did great in other areas.
McDyess notching up another fantastic game off the bench and Rasheed wasnt too bad either.
Hunter played like he did back in 2000.

I hope games 5, 6, and 7 if needed would be closer. games 1-4 were all dominated by the home team. But still, nice to finally see a competitive finals series. The past years were all dominated by one team:
2004 - Detroit didn't really have much problems vs. LA
2003 - San Antonio didn't really have much problems vs. New Jersey
2002 - The Nets got swept by the lakers
2001 - LA didn't really have much problems vs. Philly
1999 - San Antonio didn't really have much problems vs. New York
2000 had some games dominated by LA and some by Indiana though.
2000 - very similar to 2005

^^^ LOL, hahaha
gotta love that turn around though, looked like he knew what he was doing.
Fri Jun 17, 2005 10:53 pm
It would be so cool if the spurs choke the way they choked on the lakers last year... 2-0 lead means nothing when your the San Antonio Chokers..
Fri Jun 17, 2005 10:59 pm
Lmao@Darko. That's hilarious
Fri Jun 17, 2005 11:18 pm
i think the main problem for the spurs was in the first quarter-- turnovers + foul trouble..
they got bout 4 fouls in just few mins...
thats why Detroit had so much advantage, and then they became more confident as the lead went further.
Sat Jun 18, 2005 12:33 am
WE got spanked simple as that. It was turnovers and things just kept going Detroit's way. When they hit 4 or 5 shots with little to no time on the shot clock all night, you pretty much know you need to pick it up or you will lose. SA wins game 5 on Sunday
