And you ask yourself: Why would Chris Bosh want to return?

Pretty much the most important issue here, though I don't think he's as good as gone. I'd still give the Raptors a fairly favourable chance of keeping him.

Yeah, the Craptors are pretty fucked. Thank God Hedo reneged on Portland, destroying Toronto's future. I'm not sure if it would even be a good move on Toronto's part to keep him on the off-chance he stays. Going over the luxury threshold with the impending CBA just so you can win 35-40 games every year doesn't sound like the greatest plan.

I say try to sucker some poorly managed faux-contenders and 2010 losers into taking Calderon (tremendous offensive player, but possibly the worst defender in the NBA) and Turkoglu, tank next season, and build around DeRozan, Bargnani (white Rashard Lewis) and whoever they draft. (probably won't get Barnes but I really like Perry Jones. Next Anthony Randolph methinks)

Would also love to see Toronto sign Darko, continue starting Belinelli and go with the all-Euro starting lineup.

The thing about Belinelli is that he's extremely streaky. He fits the 6th man role of instant offense or a bit of playmaking when needed much better than in the starting lineup. Though I don't get why the heck this guy was benched for poor play when Antoine Wright is there chucking up bricks.

I don't think Belinelli is very good. I think DeRozan should definitely be the starter next year. I just think it would be funny if they posted an all-Euro starting 5. 'Toine Wright should be gone. Though he's one of the few guys on the team that isn't a complete sieve on the defensive end, he is an atrocious offensive player.

2011-12 Starting 5:
Jarrett Jack | DeMar DeRozan | Perry Jones | Andrea Bargnani | some Center (Darko?)

Not the best starting five, but far more promising and cost-effective than the current one.

Re: Official Toronto Raptors Thread.

Isn't Darko giving up on the NBA and heading back to Europe?

Re: Official Toronto Raptors Thread.

He said he could stay with guaranteed playing time. His resurgent period with the Timberwolves has helped his cause.

I have a feeling that Jose Calderon will be moved this offseason. The Chris Bosh situation I don't know what to think. I want him to stay, but just how far will this team go with him, and does he want to stay now with this horrible stretch since the all-star break. Prior to the break it was looking promising but not so anymore and it has been a complete 180. Amir Johnson I like, but I think he's earned himself a nice contract and will be asking for more than what Colangelo will want to pay for him.

Turkoglu is just ugh.

Wrong also needs to GTFO.

Re: Official Toronto Raptors Thread.

Jose Calderon will probably be moved. Before the injury, TJ Ford was the right point guard for the Raptors anyway. Calderon works well as a reserve point guard, as his lack of defense doesn't hurt the team as much against second unit players. As a starter however, he's a train-wreck, and $8.5 mil is a lot to pay for a reserve PG.

Chris Bosh is by far the team's best player (even during a bad month), but I wouldn't re-sign him even if I could. With him, you're stuck as a 35-40 win team over the luxury tax threshold with a no-defense mentality. Let Bosh walk (maybe do a sign & trade? An expiring, a pick and a defensive center would be a good start) and rebuild, developing Amir, DeMar and that 2011 lottery pick (btw, the Raptors need to make the playoffs this year or else they are fucked).

If Kevin Pritchard leaves Portland (which would be a sad day), I would love for him to become Toronto's GM. Colangelo has been epic fail these past two years.

I remember the days between when Carter left, and until we won the division title in 06/07. Those were some dark days.

By resurgent, I mean not on the IR. The fact that he's starting over an all-star caliber player in Kevin Love is ridiculous.

Lamrock, the thing with sign and trade deals is that you never get to choose who you gonna get. It's up to the player to choose the team and usually his old team gets all the crap of the new team.

Not really. Some scenarios may place teams in a tough spot and teams in that situation usually don't get equal value in return but there's still room for negotiation, especially if the only way a player can go to a particular team and still get paid what he wants is through a sign-and-trade (which gives some leverage back to the team he's leaving). A team always has the option of refusing to partake of a sign and trade and weathering the loss of a player simply walking but again, said player may not be able to go to the team he wants that way because of salary cap difficulties.

Re: Official Toronto Raptors Thread.

Tue Mar 30, 2010 3:32 pm

Also to note is that 2010 is a different kind of free agent period. If some team wants Bosh through a sign-and-trade, and don't offer enough for Toronto, there's no (well, I can think of one) reason for the Raptors not to refuse a sign-and-trade with them. Then Bosh would be limited to teams that can pay for him outright or teams that are willing to give the Raptors a better deal.

If the FA has only one team they want to go to, yeah, the situation is different, but the sign and trade team still has power in that situation. The team that signs and trades always has leverage because they can refuse to participate.

Sonny Weems came up with the miracle steal and save RIGHT to Bosh who was under the net. He had a chance to dunk it but think he was worried about the time and tried to lay it in and missed (N) . Bosh had a great night and was a big reason the Raptors came back but a REAL disappointing way to finish. The next 3 games are very worrying...Boston, Cleveland, and Atlanta...That was probably the quickest high-low rollercoaster of emotion I've had in that final sequence.

Re: Official Toronto Raptors Thread.

Mon Apr 05, 2010 12:47 pm

Dangggggg-nammittttt :x bosh should have dunked that one. i'd feel so bad to be him right now.

and it could've been a buzzer beater too. for once i'd like to see a buzzer beater go our way in the triano era.

5th game lost by raptors this season, decided by 3 points or less.

Re: Official Toronto Raptors Thread.

Mon Apr 05, 2010 2:35 pm

What a game. Bosh should have dunked it for sure. Oh well... Now CHI has a real chance again. Let's DO this, Rose!

Re: Official Toronto Raptors Thread.

Mon Apr 05, 2010 3:22 pm

Its not like the Raptors are unlucky in the clutch. Their overall record is 5 or 6 games better than their pythag record. With each passing game, Bosh's departure looks more and more certain. No owner should pay luxury tax for a 35-40 win team. let Bosh go and rebuild.

Just the right timing.

Bosh Suffers Facial Fracture
Following their loss in Cleveland on Tuesday, the Raptors announced that Chris Bosh has a "maxilla and nasal fracture to the right side of his face."

Bosh will not travel with the team. He will be kept overnight in the hospital for additional observation.

Bosh was accidentally hit in the face by Antawn Jamison in the first period of the game.

Turkoglu also had to go for a scan after going down in yesterday's game against the Celtics. Whoop-dee-do. What a time for injuries.

Re: Official Toronto Raptors Thread.

Fri Apr 09, 2010 1:21 pm

Maybe everyone in the team should wear a facial mask to avoid injuries like this.

Anyways, FUCK MIKE BROWN!!! Lying bitch. LeBron has bruises in his vagina so he rests the Bulls game. Now goodbye playoffs

LeBron likely to play Thu
He added that Mike Brown wanted to be fair to the Raptors, which means playing the Bulls at full strength, as well. Windhorst usually has a pretty good pulse on team affairs, so owners can feel fairly comfortable planning with this information. Mo Williams and Antawn Jamison should also be watched.

LeBron sits out
"He's got some bumps and bruises," Cleveland Cavaliers coach Mike Brown said before the game. "We just decided to rest him tonight."

Fuck it. First injury to Bosh while playing LeBron for 40 mins. Then sit him out against CHI so TO is screwed. Oh well, at least we see more of Sonny and Demar bromance in the future with Bosh leaving.
