I was listening to the Scott VanPelt Show today at work and he made an interesting point about Rondo/Nash. The Suns actually picked Rondo in the draft and traded him for cash, but had he been retained, do you think he and Nash could have co-existed? Rondo has the type of personality that he's an alpha dog and I don't know how that would have meshed with Nash.
It doesn't really have to do with this series, but it was an interesting "what if" to think about.

He would be a pretty sucky fit in Phoenix,he can't shoot, and he slashes too much.
Tue May 25, 2010 7:28 am
But he can pass and play defense.
Slash then pass.

Him an alpha dog playing alongside KG and 'the best player' in the league Paul Pierce?

Yeah, but he has that silent confidence that an alpha dog needs. He doesn't go out and talk his game up, he just plays. I'm pretty sure at this point in their careers Garnett and Pierce know he's the alpha on their team. Do you think Rondo would have been cool backing up Nash? I tend to think he'd feel like he's a better player.
This is all hypothetical of course.

Two great point guards on a court as teammates? When was the last time it worked out great?
Rondo's development would have taken a slower path behind Nash. Rondo fought off some weaker shitty players to earn his starting place in Boston, and one of them was a King's mother fucker, West.

At least when you give Nash a breather, you've got somebody who's pretty good to back him up. But still, never put two great players who plays the same postition. Like ZanShadow said, Rondo would not improve as fast. It's either him or Nash and nobody in their right mind who put Rondo over Nash.

Well, said, I don't normally agree with your opinions, but that was well said, especially the Delonte West part.

When's the last time it even happened?

IDK, benji, you're the stat guy. Maybe you can pull up some stats of when two great PG's played at the same time.
Tue May 25, 2010 8:38 am
It probably won't happen.

I remembered an instance. Jason Kidd and Kevin Johnson on the 1997 Suns. Lasted all of 25 games.

Walt Frazier and Earl Monroe for the Knicks during the early 70's comes to mind.
Penny Hardaway and Kidd also for the Suns in 2000? Though the 'great' aspect is debatable.

Wasn't there Steve Nash on that team as well? 3 great point guards...
Tue May 25, 2010 10:06 am
He wasn't great at the time, and logged only 684 minutes.

I like how we're talking about the Suns more than the Celtics on this thread. At least the WCF thread isn't talking ONLY about the Celtics.

Man Pierce is not Pierce anymore. The guy used to make some of the most difficult shots. I just dont see that anymore. And man Dwight worked his ass off. Havent seen him play like that since ever. He really had to work hard for everything. Way to push them to victory.

The Magic finally showed up for the entire game, though it looked like they were ready to throw it away in the third with all those turnovers. The Celtics blew it in the last nine seconds of overtime though, admittedly it wasn't a great position to be in but wasting time and then getting it to Glen Davis for a three as time expired? Somehow, I don't think Doc drew it up that way.
Good, competitive game from start to finish though, nice to finally get an OT game in the 2010 Playoffs.
Tue May 25, 2010 2:22 pm
Didn't watch the game, but it seems like Howard pretty much did everything he could, in order to avoid the sweep.

Weirdly, it actually looked like that
was what was drawn up. If it was anyone other than Glen Davis, it would've been the right play.
Disappointed the Celtics didn't get the win though; it would've perfectly summed up the playoffs for the most exciting series to be a sweep.
Tue May 25, 2010 3:01 pm
Perhaps, but whether it was drawn up that way or not it certainly wasn't good time management.
Tue May 25, 2010 3:20 pm
Probably the best game of the playoffs so far (though game 5 of Bucks-Hawks and game 6 of Lakers-Thunder were good), but that's not really saying much. Glad Orlando got the win. They won't win this series, but if any team would come back from down 3-0, it would be the best team in the league. I bet they take game 5, then get smoked in Boston.
Vince Carter was atrocious though. Was pretty funny to see him bite on all those pump fakes.
Tue May 25, 2010 3:58 pm
I liked his unnecessary switch in which he had to run halfway across the court just to avoid guarding the last shot forcing Redick to do it.
Rashard Lewis' double team was stupider though.
Tue May 25, 2010 10:06 pm
cant believe they didnt get a shot up at the end of regulation. was a good tackle on pierce though
Tue May 25, 2010 11:23 pm
Great game IMO, good to see Lewis going offensively.
Wed May 26, 2010 5:30 am
Oh, well. no sweep.
Boston in either 5 or 6
