Epic fail...

Having bad dunk contests like this is also demotivating to possible future contestants. I think they should select the players like they did in the past. Tell the players that they are performing in the dunk contest, don't make it an option.

In past dunk contests there were superstars not only in the contest, but on the sidelines. Where did they go? They are a part of the hype and prestige of the show.

The contest indeed sucked, though I don't think LeBron's (course he has the star power) gonna do anything particularly creative either. I mean he can jump high, but it wouldn't surprise me if he just did the same stuff that Shannon Brown did.

Very disappointed. DeRozan should have won, Gerald Wallace did 2 in-game dunks, Shannon should have tried the dunk he did the very first time and failed, Nate won because his short.

Somebody sign James White so we could see a proper dunk contest! And maybe Gerald Green also.

Get rid of the props and the pompoms then there would be more excitement. I haven't seen a good slam dunk contest since Carter in 2000, and he did "basic" dunks with creativity, and that's what the damn event needs.

Re: ASW 2010 Dunk Contest Thread

Mon Feb 15, 2010 8:25 am

Actually this contest didn't had props.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: ASW 2010 Dunk Contest Thread

I didnt see a single prop other than the cheerleaders and that wasnt even really a prop cuz nate didnt use them.

Re: ASW 2010 Dunk Contest Thread

It's not only the quality of dunks I think. It's also players that people don't really care about being invited. Expectations are always great, but players are obviously running out of creative ideas, thus superstars refusing to risk their chances in the contest. It's not like dunks were terrible.

Personally, I want to see rivalry in dunking contest, like between Wade and Kobe.

Mason vs Richardson has been the only one that was half decent since Carter back in 2000. Richardson on his worst day would have probably won this.

Props are fine if used effectively and sparingly. For example, a between-the-legs dunk over an object would be upping the ante and building upon dunks that have been seen before, so that would be an effective use of a prop and a new twist on something we've seen before. On the other hand, jersey switches and costumes are getting to be a bit passe in my view.

I'd rather anyone had put on a cape than last nights. I was at least entertained by the dwight non dunk.

I wasnt, and thats why i was watching it on television. Agree with the sentiment of 2 decent dunks. Derozans off the side of the backboard was nice. and 1 nate one was impressive. Shannon Brown should've known that dunk wouldnt cut it unless it was from free throw line.

Yeah the cape was at least some theatrics to get the crowd involved, I'll give it that. But I'm over it all the same.

wtf, sit!!!! let shannon dunk? i don't know what's funnier- all the hype he was getting only to see him suck or TNT showing the graphic of 7.8ppg being his career high

What a suck-fest that was. Sorry but they need to retire the Slam-Dunk contest - it ain't what it used to be.

I don't know, I think Kenny Smith was right when he said it was just one of those years. I think some re-tooling is in order but the event still has appeal, if the format makes sense and the competitors give a damn.

This year particularly was bad because casual fans don't give shits about this year's contestants who participated.

Re: ASW 2010 Dunk Contest Thread

Perhaps, but none of us were given much reason to be excited when the contest began. Now, if someone had pulled out a 360 between the legs or a 720, then it wouldn't matter whether they were a big name or not.

Mr Aiiiiir Up Theeere!

ok, well he attempted the 720 once but still brought out the 360 thru the legs in the amateur dunk contest

Guess I wasn't the only one who thought it sucked. Some fan-favorites need to be in the contest so the crowd can be in it at least.

There haven't been too many people defending it, seems the disappointment is universal.

I think if Shannon Brown had gotten his first 360 dunk to go, and Nate had gotten his between the legs from behind the backboard to go, we would all be talking differently about the contest.

Re: ASW 2010 Dunk Contest Thread

in a stadium that big, you'd think it would've been loud. This looked like an exhibition dunk contest for another country, not like the NBA ASW SDC (hooray abbreviations). I would've loved to have seen someone on top of that massive scoreboard drop it off the side for the players to go get. Could've been fun. Sure you'd have to wait for it to bounce 3 times...but that'd be part of the challenge.

True, seems they panicked with a lot of time (and two replacements) left on the clock. I suppose there's the thought that the judges will penalise them for a replacement or for taking too long even though that's technically not supposed to be taken into consideration.

then we would say there were 2 good dunks. the terence stansbury dunk attempt wouldn't have been a 50 like the Robinson dunk would have been. the dunk contest would have still stunk anyway
