as a kobe hater, i must say to score 81 pt in a NBA game is simply outrageous, but again, i'm a happy man so long as kobe doesn't get the ring :D

I woke up today around 6:52 AM and I get this message on xfire that is like "Kobe scored 81 points" and I was like YOU ARE KIDDING ME. I was absolutely skeptical. Then I go to nba.com and find out he wasn't lying...wow...congrats to him...I mean he's done something the best haven't done (jordan , tracy mcgrady , lebron) , wow

Bryant's performance was better than that of Chamberlain. Today there are so many great players but back in time when Chamberlain played there were only a few good players. There was little defense, there were only a few big men (that's why Chamberlain was able to grab so many RPGs). Of course he was a great player but the league was much weaker than today and scoring 81 points in a league full of great players is just better than scoring 100 in a league in which Chamberlain and only a few others were really outstanding.

The Lakers still rely on Kobe , in my opinion. That's why I think Kobe should be the MVP this year. I don't like the lakers but I don't know why Chauncey Billups has been the leading candidate according to the media. Don't get me wrong , I'm all for Deeee-troit Basketball , but in my opinion if you take Billups away from that team they are still going to go crazy on the rest of the league. On the other hand , everyone knows that the Lakers would be nowhere right now if Kobe Bryant had signed with Phoenix or the Clippers during his free agent year. Kobe Bryant is the only reason the Lakers are over .500 right now , and if the Lakers reach the playoffs it will be because of Kobe.

So , bias against or for the lakers aside , do you think Kobe Bryant should be MVP? I say yes , simply because of the point totals he's racked (60+ and 80+) plus the Lakers would be shit without him.

ps : does anyone else find this picture ironic...i thought phil jackson ripped kobe apart in his book , I guess the feud is finally over

this is awesome. just like everyone else, i STILL can't believe it. i get a shitload of raptors games up here yet this happened to be the 2nd time i've *truly* watched a raptors game from start to finish -- the other being against new jersey, where VC hit that fallaway three with less than a second remaining to win the game. just an incredible offensive demonstration, i think he pulled out every shot imagineable tonight. the best part was trying to keep up with his scoring by updating you guys with what was going on. and tonight, there definitely was a reason for him to alienate his teammates tonight because they could not do shit. he passed the ball down to kwame, and his butterfingers activated and turned it over. same thing when LO passed it to him. LO was hesitant shooting the ball when kobe passed it to him -- couldn't decide if he wanted to drive for a layup, or hoist up a jumpshot. he even stepped out of bounds with no one guarding him.

fantastic... Kobe actually scored a higher percentage of his team's total points and did not have the benefit of standing several inches above the opposition. This might be a better individual performance than Wilt's 100 point game. (Y)

HOLY SHIT
My friend called up and yelled, "Kobe with 81 against the Raptors" and I just kept saying ARE YOU KIDDING ME???
Props to Kobe, and piss on the guy who sais Kobe will never make better his teammates. His team were down by 18 in the THIRD QUATER and NO ONE on his team actually made shots.
Since when I know about basketball high scoring games like this have been history and I have never thought that it would have been any coming in this era.
And, add me to the list, I am now officially a homer.

Unfortunately he lost.
This is probably one of his best games if not his best game ever. I mean, he shoots over .600, .500+ from the line, .900 form the charity and 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals and 1 blocked shots (3 TO compared to his often horrible nights in this CAT) in 43 minutes.
Fantasy who?

It was a historic night for another reason as well. We had a 300-point game, SEA-PHO 152-149 in double-overtime. Hasn't happened since 1994 or 1994 if I remember correctly. (Y)

Well, it could be the 1994 part of the 93/94 season or the 1994 part of the 94/95 season.

But, and since you prodded me into looking it up, it was April 11, 1995. DAL - HOU 156 - 147. Double overtime as well. 8-)

i don't believe it was. the thing is though (not taking anything away from d. rob), was that people were predicting something big happening that night. robinson and some guy (someone help me here) were neck and neck in the scoring race so they both had to pull off something huge the last night of the season to win the title. robinson beat out the other guy by the slightest margin. "other guy" also busted out a 50+ point game.

honestly, before tonights game i thought the raps were going to hold kobe under the 30. morris peterson is such an underrated defender it's not even funny, and he has the ability to take players out of their comfort zones; unfortunately for him though he couldn't stop number 8 tonight.

Note: Bryant has made 21 game-winning shots so far in his career. In comparison, Jordan made 28 throughout his career.
