Re: Miami Heat Thread

I hear this kid, Norris Cole, could turn out to be something special for the Heat. I doubt he can overtake 4th year veteran Chalmers's starting spot but from what I hear, perhaps the Heat won't need to add another PG at all, but possibly turn the entire focus into getting bigs.

Spo said Mario was the starter, but I hope Cole can get minutes on this team.

Cole is obviously a better PG than Chalmers. I was sad when Heat drafted him because he was obviously a steal.

He has impressed many people at the camp. He is mature, I hope he can be a big part of the team. When you play for the Heat as a PG, you also need to knock down the 3-ball as you'll be open. Arroyo did it well last season, before he was waived.

Heat coach Spoelstra gets new contract

Erik Spoelstra and the Miami Heat have agreed on a contract extension, ending any speculation that Pat Riley’s protege would be a lame-duck coach this season.

Riley, the team president, made the announcement Friday. The Heat typically does not release terms of deals for coaches and executives, and Riley did not divulge any details of Spoelstra’s extension. Spoelstra is beginning his fourth season as coach and his 17th season with the team overall.

“We have one of the great young coaches in the league, an absolute member of this family and has been for a long time, so we want him to become a Hall of Famer,” Riley said Friday. “So it’s been taken care of.”

So this is interesting. While "Chuck" Norris Cole continues to impress as a rookie, the needs of center are becoming apparent.

Center, though, is another issue. Not only was starter Joel Anthony forced to the bench less than four minutes in with his second foul, but backup center Dexter Pittman lasted fewer than two minutes before he was called for his second foul. Despite starting, Anthony played only 6:53, closing without a point, blocked shot or rebound, but with four fouls.

So I hear Dexter possibly can average 16 unintentional fouls per game if it was allowed. Obviously, something hasn't gone right with Pat's plan on center this offseason.

Doesn't sound like there was much of a grand plan to bolster the centre position this season, aside from showing some interest in Chandler. It's not like they have a lot of room to make major changes, their best trade assets are players they don't want to trade (and shouldn't) and they don't have oodles of cap room either. It's a case of fine tuning and that requires quality players at the right positions being available and willing to sign for less.

True that. Perhaps I am whining because all we added is Eddy Curry who couldn't survive a practice, on 5.

Bosh promised double-figures rebounding, 7 last night, still less then Wade and LeBron, not to mention Haslem. But I don't really care. They out-rebounded the Mavs by 20 and the Mavs never had a chance.

Well. It's not the first time Bosh forgot to rebound. And again, Bron forgot about his fourth quarter. But who carez we got the W easy  .

Great win for the Heat to open the season, they looked incredibly sharp against a Mavericks team that didn't look ready to play. It was pretty much just the LeBron and Wade show though, which isn't necessarily a bad thing given their talents but there will be times when they're not in sync as they were yesterday and others will need to step up. It's a good thing they ran the Mavs into the ground through the first three quarters, a smaller cushion and they could've very nearly given up the game in the fourth. Still, a strong start to the season and a measure of revenge for last year's Finals, though true redemption will have to come in the postseason.

Again, the Heat almost blew a fourth quarter lead but it's ok as long as we win :) . A great game for Norris Cole by the way. He's a great steal for Miami. I just hope he can do that regularly..

Cole world.

Chalmers had something like 5 turnovers in 1:30 span. I thought he was trying too hard with Chuck Norris Cole playing well.

This is the Heat's 2011-2012 introduction video that is set to the tune of Kanye West’s “All of the Lights”. If you want a good chuckle, check it out; you’ve got Eddy Curry wearing two polo shirts, James Jones in a scarf, Shane Battier with a popped collar and plenty of flexing, preening and shoulder dusting.

It's still not terrible compared to that intro video of them to the tune of a Phil Collins song, only saving grace of that one was the greatness that is Joel Anthony in a suit.

Fucking amazing. It's almost becoming official that we have found our own Rajon Rondo.

The Heat are 5-0 to start the season for the first time in franchise history. A little surprising as they have had some good teams over the years but then they've only been around for a couple of decades and have had some pretty rough seasons too. In any case, they're looking pretty dominant at the moment.

Huge thanks to Lebron for that. Only 5 games but he has been a just unstoppable force in all those games. Reminds me of his Cavs days, only better.

I've given up trying to hate this team; they're just too much fun to watch.

Unless their opponent plays a zone. I still can't figure out why that stifles them so much.

TMac just killed the Heat in the 4th quarter. He kept them at bay with those timely treys.. He has really embraced that back-up role, definitely a low-risk, high-reward pick-up for the Hawks.

T-MAC'S BACK!

Tough shooting night for Wade, I see. If not for that, they probably could've taken this one even with T-Mac's flashback.
