so true

Piece of shit. I am actually going with Nate mainly due to effort shown. DeRozan could have done much more with his athletic ability.
Nevertheless, SDC - complete disaster. I'm even regretting staying up this late. 6AM in Lithuania.

Complete waste of bandwidth.

DD could have won this with his last dunk. He had a weak final dunk.

WORST CONTEST EVER. Nate won again, Im sick of him. Disappointing performances from Crash and Brown

The final round dunks don't matter. You Raptors fans needed to GOTV and you came up 1% short.

Total disappoinment.
Sun Feb 14, 2010 1:55 pm
What the fuck was that? I like Nate due to him having gone to my middle school, but that was really lame. RealGM's efforts fell just short.
Sun Feb 14, 2010 1:55 pm
What was that? 2 rounds? Very horrible. They even failed to capture a live dunk correctly and cut back to it too late.
If Shannon Brown didn't get scared of his first dunk and change it up, he might have had more. Derozan looked awkward out there, but he finished his dunks at least.

Some dunk contests are better than others, usually there's at least a few nice dunks with some level of originality each year but this year was a huge disappointment. DeRozan's windmill off the lob off the side of the backboard was the only really good dunk in my opinion, Nate had a couple that looked alright but weren't nearly as original. I thought DeRozan should've won, Nate kind of became a three time champion by default in that one. It's contests like this one that got the dunk contest replaced by 2-Ball back in the late 90s, hopefully the NBA just realises this was an off-year and invites a more enthusiastic and creative group next year.
And once again, the format of the contest is ridiculous. Fan voting in the final round when you have judges right there is silly enough, but when voting opens before the finalists even begin the round, what's the point of having that final round? The format sucks, the effort was lacking, an event that should still be fun was very mundane this year. Congrats to Nate Robinson and all, but it was very underwhelming dunk contest.

For anyone who wants to see something better and didn't catch the D-League dunk contest yesterday.

i really want Demar to win the SDC.. but wew his dunks suck!
congrats Nate

Holy shit the D-League dunk contest was awesome in comparison.

Congratulations to Gerald Wallace.

Wow, D-League contest was miles ahead of its NBA counterpart. Also, it's a good thing they didn't invite the TFB guys to compete in the NBA contest as a few of us mistakenly thought after the original announcement; they would've shown up this year's contestants even worse than I'd have anticipated.
Sun Feb 14, 2010 3:20 pm
I was hoping for Demar to win. Overall the dunk contest was a disappointment. The D-League one is much better.

DeRozan should have just put on a #15 purple raptors jersey before doing his second dunk. I was disappointed with his lack of effort in the second dunk but I think he doesn't want to win the worst dunk competition so far.
Sun Feb 14, 2010 6:22 pm
I was really disappointed in the contest as a whole and in Shannon Brown's creativity. I know he was going for the whole, "look how high I am" approach, but that wasn't going to fly when he wasn't even the smallest guy in the contest.
Nate Rob got himself a deserved title (unlike the one he robbed from Igoudala in 06-07). I just can't think of any other way to make the dunk contest any more exciting though. Aside from getting guys who actually give a shit it's going to be tough. I feel like some of the guys didn't really practice or give it a lot of thought, they just kinda went out there and winged it.

I think you need a combination of big stars plus young bucks in the Dunk Contest. Also if they bumped it up to 6 in contest & 3 in final like 3pt shootout & let voting decide, not fans, that would be a start.
And yes, Iggy got robbed in 2007. He was by far & away the best dunker (& most creative) in that contest.
Sun Feb 14, 2010 6:59 pm
This year's contest was beyond horrible. Very disappointed with Shannon Brown and Gerald Wallace. This shows that the only thing Brown has is athleticism and 0% creativity. Wallace looks as if he doesn't even care and just went out there to get it over with. The whole thing was just terrible.

I noticed that too, that's just unprofessional.

Definitely worst dunk contest ever. I mean, even the first dunk of this D league contest vid (a basic windmill) was better than 6 out of 8 from the NBA contest. I hate how everybody wants to look cool etc. I mean they did not even sweat. It seems like no one give 100%. Look at the D-league ... this guy of the LA Defenders. He might look stupid with his shirt in his pants etc ^^ but he looks like he is having fun and is actually jumping.
Change the whole format, give them more dunks, especially in the final round and let the jury decide. I want to see some of the old school SDC 1on1 battles. Damn how I miss it.

I agree that's a huge factor right there, no one really seemed into the contest apart from Nate Robinson and the crowd couldn't get into it as a result.
So much has been done in the contest that there is a definite element of "seen it before" looming over all the competitors, but as we've all said already, it didn't seem like this year's field really tried. Looking back at some of my favourite dunks in recent years, I thought Dwight Howard's tap off the backboard following the lob and lob off the back of the glass for the windmill demonstrate some of the creative things that can still be done (much more than phone booths, capes and dunks where the player doesn't come close to touching the rim, instead making the world's most powerful layup). There's still new twists on old dunks, which is what they should be trying for if they really want to impress.
Scrap most of the format, but keep the current time limits and replacement rules. I think it allowa players the freedom to try crazier things without penalty, something this year's field certainly didn't take advantage of. Invite six competitors that are keen to compete and have demonstrated a lot of flair on their dunks; if they can get some big names, so much the better. Have three dunks per round, top three advance to the Finals. Eliminate all fan voting - again, what's the point of having a final round if people can vote before any dunks in the final round have been attempted? - and make use of the judges throughout.

And put David Lee in the dunk contest

Overall, I enjoyed watching the Haier Shooting Stars more than the dunk contest. It seems like Gerald Wallace didn't even prepare for it, and that Shannon Brown only did dunks that almost every player in the league can do. I liked his first attempt, and he should've stuck with it, but instead he panicked and just changed hands on his dunk after that. Both Nate and DeMar each had one good dunk (you know what they were if you watched), but everything else just flat out sucked. Hopefully this doesn't mean that Nate will be in the contest again next year, only because I feel that he has nothing else left to give us. From the beginning, I understood that a 5-9 guy could dunk, and it just lost its magic after the second year. Next year give us Dwight Howard, Josh Smith, Andre Iguodala, and LeBron (if he will do it), and I am a happy man.
