I'm really liking what Colangelo is already doing so far in his short tenure....he's making the Raptors interesting to watch what they'll do in the draft....I think he's providing hope for the franchise, which is exactly what they need....let's hope he can back it up with a good draft & off-season (Y)

LOL... just thinking...

What if this is all part of Phoenix's plans? He goes to Toronto, makes some trandes liek Bosh to Phoenix for like Barbosa, then trades the 1st pick to Suns for some trash, then screws Toronto over, goes back to Phoenix.

i mean, I never understood why he came to Toronto in the first place.

I can't compare him to what Swift has become because Swift has the potential to be a lot better than he is. I'm comparing him to Swift coming into the NBA in terms of athleticism, but he's even smaller. Work ethic though, I can't say.

Thomas is too small (bulk wise) for the PF position already, he's smaller than Shawn Marion who is small at PF. The Raptors don't need a PF (their's plenty), and he's definately not an NBA C. Bosh also is not a C, he get's beat in the post enough one on one by any PF who can post up, and it's worse at C, so having him at PF and Bosh at C isn't going to work well either. Lastly in terms of the Swift comparison, I don't know if he's as good offensively as Swift was coming in either.

i neither remember much or nor saw much of Swift when he was in college.

apparently Thomas is a late bloomer physcially and has only been playing organized basketball for a few years now. so i wouldn't put a celing on his size or skills ;)

but yeh- i could see how he wouldn't 'fit' in Toronto

offseason got a kick start today..Hoffa was traded

to Utah for Kris Humphries and Robert Whaley 8-)

Defanitly not complaining about this deal

Dont know much about the two players the Raptors got in this deal, other than the fact atleast one of them is a PF... Anyways, I hope Araujo will do well with his fresh start in Utah, best of luck. (if only he could atleast average the kinda stats he had in my game, 8 points a game, 6 rebounds, shooting a blistering 52% :!: Heck, he had quite a few great games, including one 20 points, 20 rebounds performance and 5 assists when Bosh, Villanueva, and Mike James all got into foul trouble  .)

Fri Jun 09, 2006 8:10 am

I'm sad to see Hoffa go, he never really had a chance here, so I hope he does well in Utah. I don't really like either guy we got.

Humphries does the same job as Bonner, only not as well and he can't shoot with the same range. I see him playing the same sort of role that Pape Sow had this year, who you will go a week without seeing occasionally. I like that he's young and could get much better, but youth isn't what we need. I don't want him taking away minutes from Graham.

Whaley is a waste of a roster spot, I hope they waive him right away.

Also, Roko Ukic has told the Raptors that he wants to come to play for us this year, after signing a four year deal with Calderon's old team in Spain. Hopefully he and Jose will be a good backup tandem, that is unless they sign Jay Williams. It is good to see that we finally have a bunch of good young players competing for time, hopefully it makes a couple of them step up and take on a big role.

Fri Jun 09, 2006 8:12 am

According to some posters on Realgm, it seems to me that Whaley is a free agent this summer, meaning hes probably off the books.

Fri Jun 09, 2006 8:15 am

Nope, the Jazz excercised his option for the coming year just before they traded him, I guess they needed someone to even out the salaries.

Fri Jun 09, 2006 9:04 am

Roko wants to play for the Raptors next year ?

http://torontosun.com/Sports/Basketball/2006/06/08/1620279-sun.html

Roko Ukic wants to play for the Raptors next season and, perhaps, vice versa.

The Croatian point guard's agent, Marc Cornstein, met Raptors president/general manager Bryan Colangelo yesterday at NBA pre-draft camp for a preliminary discussion. A second-round pick of the Raptors in 2005, Ukic decided to sign a four-year deal with Tau Ceramica of Spain last summer and currently is involved in Spanish League playoffs.

"From Roko's side, he was really down after dropping out of the first round," Cornstein said. "He was a little disillusioned and he signed a contract in Spain. He has gained maturity and he knows an organization really believes in him."

Meanwhile, Colangelo said 2005-06 rookies Joey Graham and Charlie Villanueva will join the Raptors for summer league, while fellow freshman Jose Calderon remains up in the air because of Spain national team commitments. The Raptors' other 2005-06 second-round pick, Slovenia's Uros Slokar, likely will not play in summer league, Colangelo said.

More info on them I found on one of the boards.

Humphries - he's 6'10", he strong, he hustles and he's extremely athletic. He's dumb as a post, can't shoot, can't score with his back to the basket, can't pass and should mention that he's not very smart. He's a horrible defensive player, but will block some shots and should be a fairly decent rebounder when given playing time. I would say he's not as good as either Bonner or Sow.

Whaley - He has a chance to be pretty good. Most Jazz fans liked him and wanted him to remain on the team - personally, I'm pissed that he was included. He's about 6'9 - 6'10", a decent athlete who does have some post moves and has a soft touch around the basket. there are some character issues, but he's only had a couple minor run-ins in his year with the Jazz. He's a pretty good defensive player and he's tough. I'd take him over Humphries or Hoffa in a heartbeat.

Fri Jun 09, 2006 11:27 am

Good luck to Haffa, i hope he'll do well with the Jazz

and great job by BC. I hear the raptors are gonna waive Whaley for roster space. He's making the mininum, so i guess it's no big deal.

Fri Jun 09, 2006 11:36 am

Well then. Good luck to Hoffa, I'm not really sad to see him go though. I hope both dudes get waived, both suck.

Fri Jun 09, 2006 11:39 am

Now we just have to hope that Alvin doesn't excercise his option and we'll have oodles of cap space.

According to REalGM, the raptors could trade their first pick and players to the Pacers for Jermaine O'Neal.

Wait and see !!

Mon Jun 12, 2006 2:50 am

In the other thread, weren't you saying that the Raptors had no legit big man? It would be stupid to get O'Neal since he is a power foward, and so is Bosh and Villaneuva, so it would be illogical to get him since Bosh plays an identical game to O'Neal plus Bosh is younger and comes cheaper.

You are right, I just say that they could get O'Neal. I did not say that I agree with this deal.
I think it would be stupid to trade one of their young talent to get O'Neal.

Mon Jun 12, 2006 5:34 am

Is it fashionable to pile up good players who are playing the same position? If Toronto drafts Aldridge, Thomas or Bargnani, they'd be getting another PF. If I can still count, that means their top 3 players would be PFs. Plus, they'd have Humphries and Bonner playing the same position. I'm not buying it. Colangelo has something else in mind.

Mon Jun 12, 2006 7:24 am

Blowing up the Pacers?

The hottest rumor to break out of the draft camp in Orlando, Fla., had Indiana looking to break up the ship.
The Pacers reportedly have talked to Toronto about trading Jermaine O’Neal to the Raptors for some sort of package that would include the No. 1 pick. The Pacers, clearly looking to make a fresh start, would then take Morrison.
Indiana may also be talking with the point guard-starved Timberwolves about a Jamaal Tinsley-for-Ricky Davis swap.

Mon Jun 12, 2006 7:34 am

Where the fuck is Indy? He's the semi-GM of the Pacers

Mon Jun 12, 2006 7:39 am

i wouldn't really do the trade, O'Neal is injury prone, and has a massive contract. Getting him will probably mean we won't get a PG in the offseason. I wouldn't even do a O'Neal for CV straight up, factoring in everything including health, contract, potential, and Raptor's need. Of course O'Neal is a great player, but probably not what the raptors need right now.

Mon Jun 12, 2006 7:55 am

I wouldn't do that trade either, the Raptors need to draft someone that will complement Bosh. I doubt O'Neal would do well with Bosh. With the #1 pick they could get someone that will be able to team up with Bosh and make that team respectable.

There's no rule that says you have to play with one guy who fits each position. If Toronto drafted Aldridge, it may seem like they are playing with 3 power forwards, yet Bosh and Villenueva both have the quickness and shooting range of small forwards, Villenueva even mroeso as he can consistently shoot the three, like a 2 guard. Bosh has the low post game equal to any center oe power forward, and Aldridge can bang in the low post as he is the stronger of the three, and can rebound just as well if not better.

If they were to take Morrison, he could play small forward with Bosh and Villenueva in the frontcourt. Same with Bargnani, he doesn't have the low post game that the other two do, and is an excellent long range shooter, so een though he may be the tallest, he'd technically be playing the 3.

You shouldn't sacrifice talent just because of size.

Mon Jun 12, 2006 8:16 am

i say we do this

trade our 1st pick to the blazers for their 4th pick and telfair

draft a pg if marcus williams is there draft him

sign joel from FA

this is how our lineup will look like:

C: Joel/Sow/whaley
PF:Chris bosh/Matt/chris humphries
SF:CV-31/Graham/eric williams
SG:Peterson/telfair/Denham Brown (Draft)
PG:Williams/Jose/williams

Mon Jun 12, 2006 8:34 am

SG:Peterson/telfair/Denham Brown (Draft)

Telfair is purely a point guard, he's too small and too weak to play SG. Besides, why would Portland give up their future point guard in a draft that isn't necessarily strong?

Sadly, Alvin Williams is also never going to play again, so scratch him off for being a third stringer.
