Wade: $15M this season, $16.125 next season, sources told ESPN.
He's taking about 11M in loss. He knowingly opted out of 42M contract to help out the team. Though LBJ's gone, this helped to get Bosh his max and to acquire Deng. It's not rare for declined superstars to take less money but how many of players at his caliber have you seen going as far as 'opting out' of big fat contract just after mere 11th season at age of 32? Right. That's selflessness.
Nowitzki: Dirk Nowitzki signs for 3 years, $25M.
Dirk imitates Duncan, but takes it even further. He's taking about 2M less than Duncan per season with his new ridiculous contract. The Rockets and Lakers were after Dirk with Max Contract but refused to engage in negotiations with either team. This selfless decision allows the Mavericks more money to bolster their roster even more. Dirk and Duncan are rare kind indeed.
Now, release the TROLLS!
"Wade still isn't worth the money!"
"Ring chasers!"
"They don't need anymore money!"

What else can you say, those were some very unselfish, team-oriented decisions by those players. Unfortunately for both teams, they're probably not going to reap as much of a benefit as they were hoping to, but give Dirk and Wade credit for their sacrifice nevertheless.

Actually, Wade sacrificed his knees.

Not like that selfish LeBron, doesn't care about his teammates or winning, just making everything about him and stealing money and quitting and running off. No wonder the Heat could only win two titles.
You also forgot Carmelo Anthony who took $5 million less than the max. That's sacrifice.
Wed Jul 16, 2014 9:39 pm
You're right. That selfish LBJ opted out of his contract to get more money and signed for less years so he could get his Mad Max contract.
Carmelo did take 5M (fraction of total) sacrifice over 5 years. We can also mention about Ray Allen from the Celtics to Heat, he took 6M less. Kobe probably could have gotten Mad Max too but he made landing Jeremy Lin possible. What great sacrifices.

Why would you consider simply stating the fact is anything about being mad? Nonsensical.
Wed Jul 16, 2014 10:10 pm
Because you're being so bitter.
Wed Jul 16, 2014 10:13 pm
I do not want to know how you tasted that bitterness...

Let us end this nonsensical conversation.

I think Wade only opted out because he thought his homeboy LeBron is coming back to them only to realize that is not the case. As for his new contract, he took less because there is no way the Heat will pay him more with his declining knees and of course he is a team player he wants his team to suck less this season.

You nailed it.

Exactly, he knowingly opted out he was never going to see that much money again. With LBJ in Heat uniform, the loss would have been greater. Thatz selflessness either way. Ofc its something Kobe and LBJ fans wouldnt know about.

the dirk contract is the big shock. you dont see players take such massive pay cuts unless they have a real shot to win, the mavs do not. he could of easily gone to houston and been in the mix for a ring again
Thu Jul 17, 2014 2:21 pm
Dirk somewhere mentioned that he earned enough during his career. He's very thankful for that opportunity and this is his way of showing it to Cuban / the Mavs.
I really like this guy's attitude.

I read he made slightly over $200M in salary over 16 years. But this still is a great hometown discount saying "Thank you Dallas and fans". That I'd say is being grateful and classy.
It's unfortunate his nice gesture probably won't mean much at the end as West is stacked.

He's got nothing on Brandon Roy. At least he's still playing

What's nice is Wade being all class and cool about LeBron after he(LeBron) left Wade in the dark and made his steady income source shaky.

15 & 16 million contract. As shaky as it gets.

You can spit on my face for just half of it.
Fri Jul 18, 2014 8:11 pm
Brings back the "feed your family" instead of ring argument.
