http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/22 ... s-From-NBAHill was a seven-time NBA All-Star and was named to the All-NBA First Team in 1997 and the All-NBA Second Team in 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2000. He also won the NBA’s Sportsmanship Award in 2005, 2008 and 2010.
Impressive how long his career was after the injuries he had. He was always a player I respected and I'm glad he didn't end up joining that Lakers "super-team" for his final season. It would have been hard hating a team he was on.

Yeah, I loved how he played in his early years with the Pistons. Seems as if Hill, like Steve Nash, benefited much from the marvels the Suns' medical staff can work.

Maybe if he had gotten playing time on the Clippers he would have reconsidered playing another year.

This.
Grant Hill Appreciation Thread Starts Now.

Congrats to Hill on what was ultimately a very respectable career. Even if he does remain one of the biggest "What If?" stories in league history, he put together six great seasons before injuries derailed his career, then added a few more good ones once he finally got healthy again. I was glad when he was voted in as an All-Star starter in 2005; by the numbers, he might not have been the most deserving of that nod, but I liked seeing him receive appreciation for battling through all those injuries and playing at a fairly high level again.
A retrospective:
http://www.nba.com/video/channels/nba_t ... index.htmlNaturally, the topic of the Hall of Fame is bound to come up sooner or later. I recall us discussing it here before over the years and while I understand the arguments against his induction, I think he has a legitimate case. Before his injuries, he was one of the best in the league for six seasons and if you look back at his numbers, he was kind of LeBron before LeBron, the next step forward in point-forwards. As
noted on Twitter by the @NBAStats account:
G.Hill's career #s: 17,137 PTS, 6,169 RBS, 4,252 ASTS, 1,248 STLS. Only 10 others have recorded at least those #s
http://on.nba.com/12YaFe6
I think he was a significant enough player to at least receive consideration in five years time. Perhaps he doesn't get in first ballot, if there's a more deserving and overdue inductee then he should probably wait his turn, but he'll probably get in at some point and I don't think it would be inappropriate.

He'll get in the HoF even just based on his collegiate career.
Mon Jun 03, 2013 10:39 am
That too.

i dont think grant hill belongs in the hall but i also dont think players should make the hall based on ncaa career.

The Hall of Fame is not meant for just NBA players.
I watched the Iverson versus Hill video. He made everyone look silly! That injury was really unfortunate.

i know but i do not believe any male ball player should get in on college career alone.

Hill's best run was 1995-96 through 1999-00. Only one forward topped him in PER, WS and WS/48 during his peak.
Player | P/36 | R/36 | A/36 | PER | WS/48 | WS |
Karl Malone | 25.4 | 9.5 | 4.0 | 27.2 | .252 | 73.1 |
Grant Hill | 20.1 | 7.5 | 5.9 | 23.1 | .183 | 54.5 |
Scottie Pippen | 16.8 | 6.1 | 5.5 | 19.3 | .174 | 44.7 |

Pretty good company.

dont think you can change my mind with your voodoo numbers benji. he was a great player and like andrew said a huge what if player but i dont consider him a hall of famer. now if and when he makes it i wont be pissed off about it either
Tue Jun 04, 2013 9:58 pm
What about Jason Kidd, since he's also elected to call it a day?
Tue Jun 04, 2013 11:19 pm
Are there any doubts that Kidd will be a hall of famer?
Wed Jun 05, 2013 10:02 am
Not in my mind, I was just wondering about Sauru's take on the matter.

I don't necessarily consider him one either. But the Hall does have pretty low standards at times.
For what it's worth, B-R's probability:
Hall of Fame Probability
Active 0.355 (21)
Career 0.355 (123)
And Kidd:
Hall of Fame Probability
Active 0.949 (8)
Career 0.949 (55)

Do these stats really matter that much or is it more with the vibe and impact the player has had throughout his career?
Wed Jun 05, 2013 4:31 pm
Robert Horry for the HoF if it's vibe and impact then.
Wed Jun 05, 2013 5:02 pm
Luke Walton HOF'er for sure! GOAT. Just look at how he made Cleveland relevant after some folks took their talents to South Beach. Not to mention him carrying the Lakers franchise on his wonky back.
Wed Jun 05, 2013 5:56 pm
Hell, the Lakers haven't won a championship since Adam Morrison left the team...

Players who have a significant impact in the league generally also have historically impressive (or at least historically respectable) stats as well, so a bit of both really.

"I got the young guy!"
Sat Jun 08, 2013 3:02 pm
LoL. That was awesome. Huge respect for these veterans. Two of the best in their generation.
Also I agree with Sauru. Kidd is a lock and healthy Grant hill would have been as well. But...
