Ginobili out for season

Postby Andrew on Tue Apr 07, 2009 9:29 am

Currently breaking news at Yahoo! NBA.

The San Antonio Spurs’ playoff hopes took a severe hit on Monday when the team announced star guard Manu Ginobili will miss the remainder of the season, including the playoffs, because of a stress fracture in his right leg.

Ginobili experienced stiffness in his right leg during Sunday’s loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. An MRI and CT scan taken on Monday revealed the stress fracture.

I suppose we can't fairly count out the Spurs completely at this point. They've still got Duncan and Parker, Mason has emerged as a solid player this season and they are third in the West, on the verge of another 50 win season. Still, they collapsed against the Lakers in the Western Finals last year with Ginobili battling injury and unable to give them a scoring boost when the rest of the team was in a drought. New Orleans aren't playing as well as last year and have injury problems of their own so with the current seedings I still think they've got a good chance to get out of the first round but without Ginobili or homecourt I think they'll falter after that.

Woot! Spurs were looking like long shots already this season, but now I think they are really done. They'll probably make it to the conference finals nonetheless with the Hornets and Nuggets being very beatable opponents, but I expect them to get blown out in the conference finals in a similar fashion to last year, but without that awful Game 4 call.

All in all, hooray! (Y)

The Spurs' Dynasty is starting to crumble. At least they won 4 championships

thats it, next season we won't see Spurs with the same roster, and, i'm really sorry for Manu, he's real good, but 99% NBA fans are so bored of Spurs already, they need some minor changes!

Last time they rebuilt they won a title that same year.

But they'll be back with most of the same roster next season. It's still under contract, nobody else wants them.

2010 though. They only have two players under contract for that offseason. Mr. Duncan and Mr. Parker.

I wouldn't say the Spurs run from 1989 to today is over yet.

It would have been better if Ginobili was traded earlier in the season or during the off-season. This is the time when the Spurs might think what would have been like if they acquired VC.

At least it's not his ankle which I thought what would bother him for the rest of his career. Like most of you said, this guy's probably 25/5/5 guy but I don't think we'll get to see him posting any numbers near that anytime soon for any team. What a bummer for the Spurs, one of my favorite team to watch.

hahahaha... yeah they're really boring! about their playoff run, they won't reach the WCF this year.. their players are now getting old, so they should start scouting talents..

Point taken. The Spurs are the most boring team in the league. They need to change, it's boring enough seeing the grey and black.

No Ginobili = No more flops in playoffs.

Oh I said that too quick. I forgot about Kirilenko.

Perhaps, but then what happens if/when he's healthy next year? Imagine the championship teams that could've been broken up had a player been traded simply because they had an injury plagued season. Even with his talent, it would've been hard to trade him for another elite player while he's out with injury, that kind of weakens the sales pitch to say the least. Besides, I'm still not sure Vince Carter would've been the answer, he downplays criticism more than he's silenced the critics through the years.

As we've lamented so many times in the past though, it's become a more accepted technique across the league, even beyond the players we single out as the worst offenders.

I think w/ the absence of ginobili for the remainder of the season, the player that will separate them from being contenders or pretenders is drew gooden. Gooden has a great chance to be a difference maker in this team. He has the talent but he just needs to be more consistent and that is the big IF.

But again, we can single out the players we perceive to be the worst offenders but flopping - offensively and defensively - has grown in popularity as a technique and is widely used.

Mind you, the Lakers lost to the Sixers at home a couple of weeks ago and to the Bobcats at home in January.

It's called superstar calls. You only get those kind of stupid, biased calls if you're a so-called superstars. :shake:

I never knew Chris Fall flops that ugly. He made himself look like a pussy in the middle video where he flopped against Scola. He bearly got touched, and even if he did he wouldn't stumble to the floor like that. In soccer this would already be a yellow card for trying to trick the referee. (N) We should have that in the NBA...
