Out for the playoffs... :(

As a Laker fan this is a good thing....but it really sucks for him and for the Queens

The Kings are deep, but not deep enough to overcome that kind of loss. A shame, after the season they've had thus far.

Sat May 10, 2003 1:27 pm

i can't believe this. this is the worst news ever. this is (was) the best chance that the kings will ever have at defeating the lakers. webber isn't getting any better, divac is old. looks like another easy championship for the lakers after sweeping the mavs in conf finals. i thought that the lakers would win the championship anyway but atleast it would've been competitive and maybe even the kings could beat them in 7. but now my only hope is the spurs.

hmm..Lakers need to beat Spurs first before any of this would happen.
But I still think the Kings can beat the Mavs w/o Webber. The Kings have shown over the past two seasons that they can play very well even without their star player.

Sat May 10, 2003 1:50 pm

Geez... The road is now open for the Spurs...

Shit, I was rooting for the Kings this time... (N)

Sat May 10, 2003 5:00 pm

The loss of Webber will be significant. With the King's deep bench it may still be possible for the Kings to beat the Mavs, but winning the championship may be another story. Looks like either Clark or Pollard will start in place of Webber.

Sat May 10, 2003 5:06 pm

Big loss for the Kings, they will have to win it all without C-Webb but it will be tough for them.

Sat May 10, 2003 5:12 pm

webber's championship dreams disappeared. they have no chance of beating the mavs even if they're deep it's still hard to replace a player like him. bibby has to step up to beat the mavs. i was rooting for them to win the ring but now it's impossible even if they beat the mavs they have no chance against the spurs/lakers. :(

Sun May 11, 2003 12:54 am

bibby wont step up
coz he needs webbers screens to set him up for a open jumpshot

Not good. I tipped for Sac to win it all, and webber to be finals MVP. :P hehe, oh well.

hahahaha  It'll definitley be Clark. Too bad for the Kings, too bad for Webber. Nows your chance Dallas. Go Mavs.

Sun May 11, 2003 5:16 am

Pollard is one of the best backup centers in the league, but I doubt indeed he'll start at PF.

Before one of Webber's injuries the Kings had lost three straight games (at Hawks 115-104, at Rapters 101-97 & vs. Jazz 102-92 Webber went down in this game early)

Webber sat against Denver (Jan. 4) and Miami (Jan. 5) both victories for the Kings, Webber missed a total of 15 games.

The above shows the longest period without him.
That period they were 6-4.
counting the two against Denver and Miami it's 8-4.
Oct. 31 vs. Portland the Kings didn't have Bibby or Webber and beat Portland 100-72. 9-4 without him.
November 2 they beat Memphis on the road without Webber and Bibby 10-4 without him.
November 3 they lost at Miami without Webber and Bibby. 10-5

I hope everything is accurate and this helps see things without Webber.
They were 6-4 during the stretch of ten straight without him, but were 4-1 after inserting Clark into the line-up.

I think they would like to play Clark as the starter (PF) and put Vlade (starts at C) down for long stretches for a smaller team vs. Dallas, but maybe they should make Dallas play them, putting Vlade and Clark on the block for post ups.

Sun May 11, 2003 6:26 am

PP, that is the regular season, and you are not playing the same team 5 straight times(potentially) where they have the time to gameplan and exploit the situation.

Sun May 11, 2003 6:29 am

yeah i agree with most of the people here...i don't really like the Mavs (honestly i think they suck),so they still have a good chance of beating them... as for the LAL/SA,they're not without a chance, but either of those two will advance,in my opinion

Tue May 13, 2003 12:55 pm

Webber targets finals for return

Would be good news for Sacramento if they can make it to the Finals. But without Webber in the mean time, that's a pretty big if...

Tue May 13, 2003 3:47 pm

yeh, there'z no way that the kings will beat the lakers if they manage to get past the mavs

Tue May 13, 2003 5:12 pm

Thats if the Lakers get by the spurs...

Tue May 13, 2003 5:34 pm

you can't seriously think that the spurs are going to win...

Tue May 13, 2003 5:45 pm

I predicted the Lakers to win before the series started, but the spurs are playing really well at home, and the Lakers are struggling with injuries and depth. Kobe and Shaq have to have monster games, and they HAVE to win in San Antonio.

The Spurs have the best record.
The Spurs have the "MVP"
And the spurs have already exerted their dominance at home this series.

So with the series tied, both teams have a legitimate shot at winning.

Tue May 13, 2003 11:42 pm

Matthew, you're forgetting why the Lakers can't lose.

It's called 8-on-5 :)

Wed May 14, 2003 12:17 am

oh yer Dan, and as if the spurs didnt get calls at there house

home court advantage is getting ridiculous these days, stupid refs

and game 4 was evenly called, there were phantom calls for both teams, favourable calls for both teams, lakers got the free throws, coz shaq gets fouled on every shot attempt he takes and the refs called them, and kobe took it to the hoop.

if refs were really going to call all fouls, shaq would average 15-20 FTA a game, he always gets fouled.

Wed May 14, 2003 6:20 am

i would really like to see some stats on how many times shaq fouled out... how many? cause the only two times i remember is once in this series, and once last year against the kings
