Still No Interest In TinsleyLarry Bird is still trying to trade is point guard Jamaal Tinsley.
There remains no interest in Tinsley around the NBA.
Bird still will not buy out the remaining three years of Tinsley's $21.5 million contract, and teams are leery of acquiring him because of the third year of his deal and his history of injury problems.
"We're going to try to do something," Bird said. "We've talked to just about every team in the league. There were a lot of teams that were interested in him. You never know, they can say that all they want, but until something happens you never know if something is really going to happen."
I think the Pacers are handling the situation even worse than the Marbury situation in New York. Marbury at least has an expiring contract, so there was always an outside chance that someone would be interested in making a deal simply to clear cap room and the Knicks themselves will be rid of his deal come next July one way or another. With Tinsley's contract, however, the Pacers need to demonstrate that trading for him is worth the financial commitment and he can't build that kind of trade value sitting on the bench.

That's right, he should see more minutes especially with the Pacers not really being in the race to a playoff berth. But Tinsley is just one of those players who have a huge contract although they have never really shown enough before. Or is it just me personally disliking him .. Im not too sure right now but I doubt his effectiveness in a strong way. Further he is so injury prone. An injured player is not even worth a 400k contract .. so why take him with 7.5M ?
Just a bad situation after a bad mistake (giving Tinsley such a contract without playing him).
"You never know, they can say that all they want, but until something happens you never know if something is really going to happen."
By the way .. Larry Bird seems to be an eloquent guy ^^

He's just being nice as not to worsen the situation since he's in management now.
If it were his playing days, Bird challenging Tinsley and the Pacers playing attitude by way of questioning their manhood would be no surprise.

Exactly, that's a virtually impossible sell for the Pacers to make to any prospective trading partners. "We don't think enough of him to even have him suit up, but you should definitely take on his contract at $7.5 mil per year for the next two and a half years." I don't think Tinsley's presence would change Indiana's fortunes that much but since they are 10-19 and in second-to-last place in the East, it couldn't hurt them to put him out there every once in a while to try and salvage some trade value. If they hold him out and refuse to buy him out, then I think they're only going to end up doing exactly what they're trying to avoid: paying him every cent left on that deal.

I must have forgotten what happened. Why the hell is Jamal Tinsley in a similar situation as Stephon Marbury?

There are similarities in terms of him being a talented point guard that has caused locker room problems and now does not even see a minute on the court as a result of them.

According to Indy:
Being lazy and not wanting to play by making up injury excuses.
Also, the off court troubles and I think he's the last member in the Pacers roster when the Detroit brawl happened.

Which begs the question, how can you expect to trade a player like that when you can't even say "we admit he has his baggage, but this is what he's capable of doing on the court"? You might as well buy him out and try to negotiate a deal that's less than what's left on his contract, as I said before at this rate they're going to end up paying him every cent anyway.

Other teams should take notice of what is happening with those two pg's, Marbury and Tinsley. You've got a talented player who has an attitude problem. You don't want to advertise this problem because it just costs you money and potential future trade value. You let them play while shopping them on the trading block so you can get rid of them as soon as possible.

Im also a fan of just not drafting guys who show lack of attitude, how would that be. Okay, its tough to scout .. but by checking the background you can really find something out about the character of a player.
Now that the league is kind of a "young, black and famous" players league (I read a nice book about it titled the same) I think its really important to get to know those kids.
Maybe Im going a bit too far but I just cannot hear this "attitude" thing anymore. You have the chance to play in the best league AND earn MUCH money and you just have some responsibilities to take like listening to your coach, showing respect to your whole organisation.
Maybe Im a bit too furious but I hate to see players heading into the direction. When a player had attitude problems in the 90ies it was more a thing of off the court troubles or technical fouls etc (I think about Rodman)
5 years ago it became a thing of players not giving their best for their teams (VC, T-Mac)
And now players do not even suit up for the games anymore. Bad development ..

I think that Portland have to take him because they dont have a backup plan for Bayless,Steve Blake i think isnt there best PG, so maybe a trade something like Tinsley for Sergio Rodriguez it would be a fair deal i think

Portland doesn't want to build another Jailblazers by acquiring Tinsley.

Exactly. The Sixers did a similar thing when they were looking to trade Iverson a few years ago, announcing that he would be traded and choosing to sit him. As it turned out they still made a pretty good deal but it wasn't a good idea as it did a poor job of selling him to the rest of the league. AI being AI, his trade value still remained quite high as his NBA resume is much more impressive than Jamaal Tinsley's but it's not a good approach, especially if you're trying to shop a lesser player.
