ouch...wonder what would happen if he was to be found lying about his age? would the nets fine/suspend him?
it isnt his fault really, more like his CBA team's fault....

It's not very unlike Mutumbo's case. Mutumbo was born in war torn Congo for which no one can really say for certain what his true age is. It has long been speculated that he is 2 yrs older. Although Yi wasn't not born under the same circumstances, the issue here is that he has reported himself to be younger not older, hence he did not really break any NBA rules in terms of his eligibility. It is possible he could be sanctioned with a fine, but he won't get banned over this. NBA needs the huge Chinese market to sell LBJ and KB24 jerseys, Yi and Yao are their golden tickets into the booming Chinese market. :)

I think there's more significance to the Chinese National Team than the NBA. Any achievements by Chinese teams in Junior international tournaments would become void if players such as Yi were found to be older than what they say they are.

If I was a betting man..... Since Ricky Rubio is coming to the league soon. They're going to investigate him and I'm shocked that their not doing the same for Sun Yue.

At the end of the day, I don't think it will end up being a concern to the Nets. We're only talking about a few years. If he was actually born in 1984 then he's still 24 and in the normal course should be expected to have many more years playing professional basketball ahead of him and more than ample opportunity to improve his game between now and the time he calls it quits. As Sit said, the greatest impact will (retroactively) be on China's accomplishments in junior tournaments that Yi participated in.

well, it wouldnt be a concern to the Nets, but they might still have to punish him for falsifying his age or something along those lines..i am just worried about that :? :?

I don't think they'd be obliged to punish him in any way and if it's left up to them, it seems doubtful they'd make too big a fuss over it.
