Another situation where the coach is fired where the team is not doing too good.

Their struggles might have more to do with Elton Brand playing below expectations and/or having difficulting fitting in with his new teammates than any shortcomings on Cheeks part but the tone has been set to fire coaches after slow starts. You could argue that it's something that's been brewing and the slow start is the final straw and a convenient enough reason to sell to the fans but with their performance in the Playoffs last year and the extensions he's signed it looked liked Cheeks would benefit from a greater amount of patience on the part of the front office. Apparently not.

I won´t say that Cheeks had to go because Brand was playing to bad, but because he was not able to connect him to the rest of the team. The 76ers are so bad with the 3pointers, it´s to easy for the other defense to double Brand (that´s why his stats are not that good). And I would say Brand is better than the last year power forwards. The only problem is that Cheeks was not able to find a suitable playing style for his team.
I would say that more time would have solved this problem, but now a new coach has to try his luck.

You can't put that all on Cheeks though, the players themselves have a responsibility to mesh and compliment one another with what they bring to the table. It doesn't always "click" right away though, despite the best efforts of the coach and the players.

You are absolutely right, but it´s the easiest way to blame the coach and look for a new one, that might not solve the problem, but as you see it´s the step that is mostly taken.

Of course, you can't fire all the players and the executives won't fire themselves so the blade will always fall on the coach. In all fairness, sometimes you do have to make a change and if a coach has alienated his players or the players have tuned him out or his methods have simply run their course, it's a change a team has to consider. The firings we've seen so far are a bit premature though and involve teams who not only provided their coaches little to work with under the best of circumstances but have also had key players miss games (with some continuing to sit). There doesn't seem to be much patience or many allowances made.

WOw, Way to many coaches fired nowadays. NBA is really going crazy now

It's the short period of time in which it's all happened. If we were in April and the regular season was winding down and we had six coaches fired, it would still be noteworthy but not unprecedented or too surprising. Six coaches in 24 days, a couple within the team's first 15 games, feels like a lot more than it would if 70+ games were in the bag.

Did Selfishness Get Theus Fired?

The accusations range from him being late to the team bus to answering his cell phone during practice. Theus denies the claims but if there's any truth to it perhaps there was a lot more to it than the slow start.

I don't get why these coaches are becoming scapegoats for poor 10-15-20 game starts to the season and then you have an assistant step in and the team will probably do worse. I don't know what these teams are thinking...

Then it comes back to what Van Gundy suggested a couple of weeks back, that the poor starts are excuses to get rid of coaches rather than the chief cause, which makes you wonder why they bothered to start the season with the coach in the first place. Of course, we don't know what went on behind closed doors and if any of the allegations about Theus are true then there's obviously more to the story than the Kings' struggles. Right or wrong, it's also the easiest change to make for a team that's struggling so it's the move they make first.
