I don't know, I found myself rooting for the Jazz on both the '97 and '98 Finals. Probably due to my man-crush on Stockton but Malone was pretty spectacular too.
I tend to like the early 90's Bulls much more than the late 90's Bulls. I never liked Longley, Kerr, Harper, Burrell, etc. I much prefer their early 90's counterparts (Cartwright, Grant, BJ, Paxson, Scott Williams, Stacey King, etc.) Plus I find the league was more competitive then...The thing is, how many of you young folks literally sat through a whole bulls game from early in the day? Like seriously, besides highlights and Wizards games, how many of the people here who got into basketball late, or are younger, actually saw a game when Jordan was in the Bulls?
I have watched at least one game of every playoff series the Bulls played from '91 to '98, and I'm a Knicks fan.if i remember correctly that was game 2, and he was against the trailblazers lol
easy win for the Bulls, i believe Jordan hit 6 of 6 from three point range that night?
Game 1. Jordan hit six three pointers (and had 34 points if I remember correctly) in the first half. He was guarded by sophomore Cliff Robinson. Old times, lol.

I have, but 24 is probably too old to be "young" in this case.

I started watching around 96, and really began following the 97/98 season
My favourite game from that period though had to be game 6 of the 98 finals. That felt like Armageddon, everything lead to that game.

flu game...yeah, that one was one of the best games ever, an inspirational performance from the greatest basketball player ever existed
I never believed that he really had the flu.

He may have had the "24-hour flu" aka stomach flu. Eating poorly during a gambling binge the night before perhaps.
I'm pretty sure there's no way he had influenza in June. (It can't survive outside of the human body in June temps.)

Perhaps Jordan might have had Phil's permission to go gambling. Same deal with Rodman when Phil allowed him to go to Vegas so Rodman can get away from them Mormons and "relax".

Whether it was actually the flu or some other ailment, he did not look particularly healthy that game despite his performance.

One on the best thing for me while watching a Jordan era Bull's game was that even when the play had stopped, or they come back early from commercial, I am watching Jordan and Pippen trying to play with the minds of their opponents. During fouls shots, when somebody tumbles out of the sidelines and when players are moving back to the benches, there would be little chit chat going on. And when Rodman came to the Bulls. I'd really be watching Rodman trying to get into the heads of Mourning and Barkley.

Ditto here. Jordan was too good, though

That reminds me of his clash with Frank Brickowski in the 1996 Finals, Rodman was completely in his head by the third game of the series. George Karl had to take Brickowski out after Rodman just stood and grinned at him during a free throw.

I find I sometimes play better with the flu....it's almost like you have extra focus & will through it....either way, there is no doubt MJ looked like dogshit & played a superb game....surprised nobody has mentioned Pippen playing through a broke back in that series....

Do you mean the flu...or a cold. Too many people today confuse a severe cold for influenza.
Especially in June.
Mon Nov 03, 2008 11:36 pm
I'm talking more the flu, when you have a fever & shite....not just a runny nose & crap....I think I got them the correct way around, I tend to get them confused too, or maybe I am confused....but yeah, I don't recall playing in summer with flu, more in the coolest 6 months of the year....

Flu or not, it was not unusual for Jordan to play at an extremely high level for the entire game. Not until the Bulls have put away the game can you see Jordan just relaxing on the bench. The man was almost always on. On offense he was always weaving around till he gets the ball, then you know the dunk or the fade away is coming, but very few players who manned the two spot was ever strong enough to guard Jordan. Then on defense he would always be stalking his man, trying to knock the ball loose or getting himself ready for the block.
For the younger people who never really saw Jordan's games, just think of Vin Baker in seattle, I mean the exact opposite of that.

Oh that was so awesome, I remember that vividly, they were going at each other, Rodman was all over him...

That's the one. I must be mistaken about him being taken out after that, or perhaps it was shortly afterwards. It's been a while since I watched that game.

That match-up intensified the entire series to an unreal level, it was one of the first Finals I ever watched, but boy did it get me hooked to the NBA.
Notice to how cool Jordan finishes his free throws and Rodman has no intention whatsoever to be ready for a rebound, he just heads back, mind at psychological war - though it got pretty physical most of the time - .
God, I miss Kemp and Detlef, I was rooting for them so bad.
I remember writing a letter (no e-mail back then

) to an NBA magazine called XXL, because they wrote 'Rainman' instead of Reignman, got a lame response saying it rains a lot in Seattle and thus you can use both... well duh, that played in becoming the
Reignman (rules over stupid Mailman).
Ah nostalgia...

Rodman is such a jackass.

I'm not sure if I'm missing something with the psychological warfare talk? Brickowski just ignored him and was ready to play hard. Rodman was either trying to annoy him or look like a fool. And yes, I did watch that game.
Wed Nov 05, 2008 8:14 am
Meh... I never liked the '96 Finals. Would've been much more interesting if the Jazz won Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals. The Sonics just weren't a good enough opponent (and no I don't give a fuck about "how good Kemp was.")
