Harrington Asks For Trade

Wed Oct 29, 2008 6:48 pm

Two NBA sources claim that Al Harrington has asked the Warriors to trade him because he doesn't want to play for coach Don Nelson anymore.

He reportedly wants to be traded as soon as possible, but will not walk out on Golden State, who opens their season on Wednesday night.

One source with knowledge of the situation said that Harrington’s agent, Dan Fegan, is "actively working to get (Harrington) out of there" and that a few teams already have proposed tentative deals.

WOW! That´s a surprise, Al looked like a perfect fit in Nellys system.
And he dislikes playing for Nelson? I guess about 99% of all basketball players would like to play in an offense-first-system, so maybe he sees that GS has very low chances of reaching the playoffs and he´s now searching for a contender. Can anyone think of a possible trade? I guess Chicago and NY might have chances to get him.

I say bullshit! Why? Here:

Contacted by 48minutes.net Tuesday afternoon, Harrington and Don Nelson both denied the hours-old report from Tim Kawakami that the 10th-year forward has asked to be shipped to another destination, no longer willing to play for the NBA’s second-winningest coach.

“I haven’t said that to anybody,” Harrington said. “I’m being honest with you.”

“Not that I know of,” Nelson said. “I had a meeting with him yesterday, and it didn’t come up.”

Well, a denial doesn't always mean much in situations like this but perhaps he was misquoted or the whole thing is a complete fabrication. A little surprising if it is true as Nelson's system would seem to favour Harrington but I suppose we don't know what happens behind closed doors, what rifts may develop.

Andrew, if he did want to get traded do you believe the Bulls would pursue him? Besides Ty, Noah, and Gooden, you guys have a pretty think front court.

Seems I've been wrong :D

I hope Cavs grab him, they need some kind of an offensive PF...

Perhaps, though I think they'll give the current lineup a chance to work first.

Those are very conflicting reports; someone's making things up or Harrington is flip-flopping big time.

I just read on Daily Dime that the Warriors are considering two offers from Western Conference teams... New York also interested in trading Eddy Curry for him, but Warriors want David Lee who I doubt they will get seeing how well he will play for D'Antoni.

Agreed, no way the Knicks give up David Lee just to get rid of Eddy Curry.

What? The Cavs will have a defensive hole in the PF spot if that happens. Even Daniel Gibson plays better defense if he was put at the PF spot than Harrington.

Hey, they'd still have Ben of the bench.

What would the Cavs send? Ilgauskas? Eric Snow?

Fri Oct 31, 2008 8:49 pm

Wally+some picks? I don't really know the contracts :P

Then this whole discussion of Harrington going to Cleveland is now over.

:P Huges for Harrington :headbang:

Chicago needs any big guys they can get :headbang:

Sat Nov 01, 2008 3:33 pm

That won't work straight up. Even if it did, I don't think the Warriors would be that desperate to trade Harrington to take Hughes in return.

Sat Nov 01, 2008 3:54 pm

true true, but one can dream can they not?

arg, huges is just a name that smears the name of the chicago bulls franchise :| :| i would have stuck with ben wallace if i was john paxson...

Sat Nov 01, 2008 3:56 pm

I wouldn't. Wallace was sulking, unmotivated and being paid more than Hughes (remember Gooden came across in that deal as well). Keeping him around wouldn't have done the team any favours.
