Free to Air NBA Games on Australian TV

Tue Oct 28, 2008 6:00 pm

Channel 10 today made public their new 24/7 sports channel which will include NBA games. Only downside is we have to wait until April 2009.

Excellent news, Laxation mentioned that in the Foxtel thread. With Fox Sports apparently not showing any NBA games this year it would be better if it were launched earlier than that but that will be just in time for the Playoffs.

I just hope its more than 2 games a week type thing and if foxtel show games it won't just be the same games they show.

Wed Oct 29, 2008 8:08 am

They say it's three games per week. A long time to wait but I'm hyped :D

yeah, I read about it today as well....as long as there is regular NBA coverage (even one game a week), then I'll be happy....even replays at night....anything is better than nothing....will be looking forward to it

I doubt it will double up, they'll probably show TNT games and local broadcasts while ESPN Australia will retain its mix of ESPN games and the occasional local broadcast.

They will have a weekly NBA show, I think I've read, which is better than nothing. 1 Game and a weekly recap show would be all I ask for. I don't wanna be greedy and ask for more and get nothing and feel really disappointed.

Wed Oct 29, 2008 10:12 pm

The weekly show could just be NBA Action.

Wed Oct 29, 2008 10:17 pm

Hmm, that's true. What kind of NBA programs were on back in the 90s?

Wed Oct 29, 2008 10:25 pm

NBA Action, at the time hosted by Jim Fagan who was much better than the current hosts and NBA Inside Stuff, hosted by Ahmad Rashad and Willow Bay (later Ahmad Rashad and Summer Sanders).

Wed Oct 29, 2008 10:28 pm

I like TNT's Inside the NBA. :)

Haven't seen NBA Action. And does Inside Stuff still exist?

NBA Action (30 minutes including ads) followed by the Game of the Week (condensed into 90 minutes including ads, so some of the boring parts of the games were often trimmed slightly)....that was once a week on Saturdays (it might've moved to Sundays later in the decade)

Wed Oct 29, 2008 10:35 pm

Apparently it's still airing on NBA TV.

NBA Action focuses on a couple of teams each week (their coverage in this regard was better back in the 90s), has a couple of highlight reels using including some lighter moments and bloopers, a brief recap of recent news items, a player profile or similar feature (sometimes historical). Each episode ends with the top ten plays of the week except at the All-Star break when it's top tne plays from the first half of the season and the later stages of the Playoffs when they show top ten plays, dunks, etc of the season.

Wed Oct 29, 2008 10:42 pm

I'm guessing that's probably what we will be getting. Which is better than nothing. :)

Wed Oct 29, 2008 10:46 pm

Accompanied by a game or two, it's definitely better than nothing.

Wed Oct 29, 2008 11:15 pm

I imagine it will be fairly Bucks-heavy, because of you-know-who. But it's a great bit of news, all the same and i'm looking forward to it.
