Eddie Jones to Indiana

Along with future draft picks and cash for Shawne Williams. Weird how RealGM reported Shawne Williams as the main part of the trade despite Jones being much more well known.

The question: Does this matter?

What the fuck? What the fuck? What the fuck? What the fuck?

TWO FUCKING DRAFT PICKS? TWO FUCKING DRAFT PICKS? Second-rounders, but FUCKITY FUCK FUCK.

Excuse me while I go off to drown myself in my own vomit.

At least we unloaded Jones.

Maybe because Eddie Jones is in the twilight of his career... and Williams has had a bit of off-court troubles?

Indy has a better future (and present probably) than Dallas though.

A better present? That's a pretty big call. Dallas still has Dirk, Howard, Kidd and Stackhouse. I know they didn't gel well last year but that team was thrown together on the fly and with a new coach and a training camp together they have the ability to challenge in the West.

Also, Jason Kidd has never made a team worse in his career. This could end up being the first time but the West, (edit: imo lulz), is pretty wide open this year. The Lakers could have a talent overload. Where do you play Bynum? Do you force him back into the starting lineup where he and Gasol probably won't be as effective together? What happens to Odom? Off the bench = waste for a player like him. How do the rest of the role players respond after a significant let down in the finals?

Then who is there? The Spurs are always getting older and will be missing Ginobili for a while. The Rockets are deep (especially if Artest can play power forward on defense) but what happens if Yao or Mcgrady go down in a critical part of the season again? Will Rafer be able to produce like he did last year? The Suns have Amare and pieces that really don't fit anymore. Denver could have been up there but it's hard to see them competing without Camby. Utah and New Orleans could end up being the conference finalists, and Portland could shake things up.

I can't see no reason for why Dallas, if they can restructure the offense to utilise Kidd and their regulars can't at least be competitive in that conference. Can you say the same for the Pacers in the East?

Jones was becoming an odd man out in the Mavericks' backcourt so even though he's still capable of being a solid reserve, he was expendable. The picks are arguably a bit of a gamble but if they turn out to be second round picks as the article states, they could very well be bottom 20 picks in weak drafts and no big loss. If they were first round picks then it's much more of a gamble.

The Mavs are going to surprise some people this season. Sure, their offseason consisted of a boatload of nothing moves and inactivity, but Kidd will get to utilize his skills much better in an offensive system that doesn't involve people standing around watching one guy try to take it street on their defender. Josh Howard SHOULD return from Crazy Town. Brandon Bass will get even better (best athlete on this roster, and Kidd made Kenyon Martin look good). Plus, the team looks much better defensively than those Nets teams Kidd played with.

Looking back on that trade (and considering my initial fury has diminished), it isn't a bad trade, simply because we swapped an old guy for a guy who has talent. Sure, he's had legal troubles, but a lot of others have too. I suppose Mark Cuban could use his cash to buy anyone he really likes in that pool of mid 2nd-round talent (just like he should've made a bigger attempt to buy end-of-first-round pick this year to get a CDR or a Darrell Arthur).

Some are saying that Jones might not even go to Indiana, according to rumors Jones may be contemplating on just retiring from the NBA.. Well, he did have a good career imo..
