if scoring 13 points in 30 something seconds isn't clutch and can't take over a game, i don't know what is...

I thought we were still talking about Shane?

Slight mistake, I'm still learning how to read.

I'm from Spain, and in our NT we have a player like Shane Battier. He's always working for the team, never worrying about his stats and making all the dark things a team need to have success. His name is Carlos Jimenez, and you could see him at the Olympic Final.

He's retiring from NT after Olympics, and we will miss him a lot.

Surely I compare him to Shane Battier.

well... it may not be entirely the truth but i understand where he's coming from. t-mac should have taken his team to second round at least once in his career. it's safe to say he had good enuf teammates and talents around him. as a rockets fan, it always frustrated me seeing him failing after failing. i heard him saying all the time "if we don't win this series, it's on me, it's on me" . sure, he has proven that he can take over and shit, but too inconsistently. t-mac wanna live up to expectation as a player who was compared to kobe once, then show us the result, not some flash highlights.

as for yao, he once was underrated when he first came to the league. many ppl thought he was gonna average 15pt 8reb at best. so i think he somewhat lived up to expectation. but now, with much higher expectations than ever, he'll have to prove that he can win in the playoffs just like t-mac. otherwise, imo it's ok for ppl to think yao & t-mac r overrated.

if u think about it, u have the two top superstars on a same team at C & SG, and still don't get it done, they deserve to be blamed.

Yeah, but seriously no player can carry his team to a championship.
Jordan couldn't do it (needed Scottie, didn't reach finals until 7th year, also had small role players, Paxton, etc...)
Kobe couldn't do it (After losing Shaq, 3 years of never leaving the first round, and in 2004-2005 they didn't even make the playoffs, got Gasol, role players, Fisher, etc..)
All those guys who were given that opportunity failed (I think... sorry of my facts are a little off).

Tracy McGrady, since the 04-05 season has been to the play-offs 3 out of 4 times.
In 04-05 they should of won it but I must say but in their defense they had almost no one else to turn to.
05-06 was injury-plagued.
06-07 was when they gave up RUDY GAY (based on today's game very bad decision) for Shane Battier (Good defender IMO). Playoffs were much like 04-05 but they werent blown out by 40 in the game 7 (4). Juan Howard was hopeless.
07-08 lacked Yao Ming.

This year, if all goes to plan (no frickin injuries or someone doesn't get a 82 game suspension again)
C - Y. Ming
PF - L. Scola
SF - R. Artest
SG - T. McGrady
PG - R. Alston

With a solid bench of Brent Barry, Shane Battier, Mutumbo still has some game, Head, Brooks (he's good in 2K8  ), D.J. . It will be interesting to see how this season pans out for them.

BTW My list of over-rated players are Vince Carter (some people still think he can play basketball) and I'd usually say James but that would contradict everything I have just written about T-Mac, showing that everyone has different opinions.

give me another example and that wasn;t even in the playoffs. Give me a clip where he took over a game when it really counted

Who cares? The best teams aren't in situations where games need to be taken over in the last couple minutes.

That doesn't automatically make them overrated though. The failure of Tracy McGrady's teams to advance past the first round is often brought up and he's generally fallen out of favour as someone who is widely thought of arguably being a top five player in the league. The general perception of T-Mac and Yao seems pretty accurate so they can't really be overrated if no one is touting them as being better than they actually are.

You don't need one. Anyone who does anything like that is redeemed for life whenever the subject comes up.

Its like fucking fat chicks - you're allowed to do it if your last GF was your best friends ex girlfriends sister, who's dad is the minister at the church you go to. And no one can give you crap about fucking that fat chick - because previously you have layed the ultimate redemption girl.

Mcgrady played the ultimate redemption game.

i may have had this conversation about the ultimate redemption girl before with my mates...

But more to the point, Ive given you evidence why he is clutch. You show me why he isnt.

Fri Aug 29, 2008 5:05 pm

how can you say that BATTIER is overrated when is one of the best defender in the league
i think is UNDERRATED NOT OVERRATED

Fri Aug 29, 2008 5:40 pm

for me, it'd be gilbert arenas being bit overrated in terms of salary and attention he gets from medias. i know many ppl don't give him credits that he usually gets from medias but at the same time, a lotta ppl r in luv with him and rate him high cuz of his stats and highlight plays. however, the great numbers doesn't always work out in the best way for the team and that's wut i saw in him. just my two cents.

Andrew wrote:The general perception of T-Mac and Yao seems pretty accurate so they can't really be overrated

ur right on that. it's just that untill very recently, many have considered t-mac as one of the top superstars who is underachieving cuz of the circumstances. however, the general perception of t-mac and yao seems to be at where it's supposed to be at atm, although there're still some who really believes in them, thinking that they can play at much higher lvl as a team. as a rocket fan, i admit that it's the fans' high expectations that somewhat negates their true value.

They seem to be basing it on his Team USA selection, suggesting that it implies he's one of the best players in the league.

Sat Aug 30, 2008 12:47 pm

Battier is no longer underrated, since almost everyone says he is.

Sat Aug 30, 2008 12:49 pm

Agreed, the general perception of him seems pretty fair so he's not particularly overrated or underrated these days.

Tue Sep 02, 2008 2:43 am

Wade isn't overrated! :-x

Tue Sep 02, 2008 7:54 am

These guys are acting like it's Wade's fault his team was shit LOL. These bloggers are funny. None of those players are over rated
