College Basketball

Thu Nov 02, 2006 10:13 am

The start of the college basketball season is approaching and I'm pretty excited.

My favorite team is Xavier, if you didn't know, it is located in Cincinnati. I'm not going to make any stupid predictions but I do think we are pretty talented. All of our starters our returning along with most of the team. We were good last year, exiting the Tournament against Gonzaga (Adam Morrison basically) in a close game. Our schedule this year is pretty easy I think. I am looking forward to a great year for the Muskies.

I am interested in what you guys are excited about this college bball season.

I got a question... do most people go for the colleges they come from or is it more likely for them to support the teams that are in their area?

Thu Nov 02, 2006 10:34 am

Well, I'm still in high school so I can't really answer that. If I don't go to Xavier, I'll probably end up supporting the team of the college I go to more than Xavier. I think it's only natural as one would be surrounded by that college all the time and would develop a liking towards that team.

Thu Nov 02, 2006 11:09 am

True!

Also, how do Ivy League colleges do in the NCAA? In general for all sports... do tyhey have sporting people or are they all smart freaks?

Thu Nov 02, 2006 11:18 am

your favoriate team is Xavier? Well mine is my college, Umass. We're taking you guys down.

Thu Nov 02, 2006 11:32 am

HELL YAH UMASS!!!

but yah im from the UMass Amherst area so Ive alway been a fan. Them and DUKE.

Thu Nov 02, 2006 1:41 pm

Duke blows, UNC is my favorite team. Seeing MJ was why I picked up the team in the first place. Then, McCants was my favorite player for the 2004 NCAA Championship team.

Now, Hansbrough and Reyshawn are my favs. The recruiting class is awesome this year too.
(Wright, Lawson, Ellington, Stephenson)

duke!

The best was Jay Will with that excellent duke team. that was the best fun to watch, Jay Will was so amazing then, hitting treys like kobe, stealing and dunking like it ain't no thang, then topping it all he had that smirk all the great dookies have. y y y y y y y?

I'm a Buckeye fan, if you can't tell. I'm excited about the team this year, and for those of you who are under the impression that its just Greg Oden that's givin this team their number 4 ranking, you're wrong. This years Buckeye team has the best Freshman class possibly ever. Deaquan Cook, David Lighty and Mike Conley Jr. all make big impacts as freshman. However, its all about Jamar Butler untill Greg Oden gets back. Butler is a tough as nails point guard that really does a little of everything.

When Oden gets back in late December/eary January, we'll be primed for a NC run. I'm expecting a NC from both the Football and Basketball programs this year.

My school played in its first NCAA tournament last year as a 16 seed against North Carolina. Unfortunately, we got blown out by 30 by the eventual National Champs. I go to Oakland University, and since we just turned Division 1, obviously we can't compete with the big dogs yet. That's why I always pull for Michigan - although Michigan State has been the much better team over the past few years.

By the way, Indy, I've always wondered this - what caused you to become a fan for OSU (located in Ohio), Indiana Pacers (located in Indiana), Chicago White Sox (located in Illinois), and the Indianapolis Colts? I'm confused because all your favorite teams are from the same area (midwest) but all different states. I personally hate all the other states because for the most part, we are all rivals with each other. I've just wondered why you don't like all the Indiana teams, or all the Illinois teams now that I see you live in Chicago.

im stoked that the bball season has started here on campus (UT-Knoxville)!!!

i went to our first exhibition and we looked pretty good (126-66 ass-whipping of a DII team)...we're ranked 24, and I feel promising about our chances...we've got some big games this year (Florida twice, Ohio St, LSU, Bama, etc.) that im looking forward to :)

Indy, u guys look pretty good, but i think inexperience will be the ruination of u (u'll be amazing next year if all the froshes stay ;))

Go Vols!!!

This is like the 50th time I've had to explain this on this board, pay more attention. :P

I became a Pacers fan in the beginning of the 1990-91 season, I became a Colts fan in 93. I was at a Pacers game when I was little and I asked my dad what baseball team they root for in Indiana, and my dad said he didn't know. The guy next to me said a lot of people root for the Reds, but personally he was a White Sox fan. I thought that was cool that I could be a fan of a Chicago team, I went to a game in the 93 season where Big Frank was the best player in the league, and I've been die-hard ever since.

I haven't been an Ohio State fan nearly as long, but I became a fan because of the basketball program, not because of football, so I've suffered through some bad OSU basketball seasons. My highlight is still beating Illinois during their undefeated season a few years ago. I became an OSU fan because of Scoonie Penn and Michael Redd.

they were damn good back in the day...

i still remember going to the Elite Eight game where they beat Ron Artest and St John's to make it to the Final Four :)

to answer the question: I tend to pull more for my college, but i also still pull for home teams (ILLINI and Clemson is my back home team but i like to see any ACC but Chapel Hill [fuck sean may and his shoulder block to luther head] and duke do well) this year is going to be exciting for Illinois because all of our star players from our championship game run are gone. I'm looking towards Brian Randle to be our star...he was damn good last year...and i'm also looking forward Frazier as our new guard threat...

We're taking you guys down.

Ha, Xavier wins.

Sun Jan 21, 2007 7:21 am

Heh.. yeah.
I was predicting a 10 point Xavier win... but oh well. IF we make the Tourny this year, it will be a success, we haven't had a really good season since Camby.

Sun Jan 21, 2007 7:26 am

Well, the Atlantic 10 is pitiful. It's wide open for several teams to make the tourney by winning the conference title.

Thu Feb 08, 2007 7:05 am

Sorry for double post but this topic is dying.

I'm going to the Xavier game tonight. Lookin' for a good game against the Billikens.

Was wondering if any of you guys had seen Patrick Mills play yet for St Mary's? I just wanna know how he is going. I have heard stats and stuff but what do you guys think of him as a player?

I played against him at Nationals in 2005 and I was seriously wondering if Kobe had gotten younger and became an Australian citizen....he just torched us big time....I watched his team play in the semi-final I think it was. They were down by 20 points at three quarter time and he scored 30 in the last quarter and lead them to victory, was seriously amazing.....

Anyway, any feedback on how he's going would be great. (Y)

Coming from the LA area, I've always been a fan of UCLA, and hated USC as a result. but going to a sister UC school has reinforced it... we all have the same colors and fight song. but i still root for my team in the Big West even though we suck.

I watched a colleage game last night with Kansas against UNC Asheville and I was surprised to find there was no Kenny George. Is he still playing anymore for the team or has was he incapable of playing because his all to prevalent knee problems?

Mon Apr 07, 2008 8:21 am

you really do have a boner over big people

Mon Apr 07, 2008 10:15 am
