Where do the Wizards go from here?

Postby Full Surface on Wed Jul 02, 2003 10:29 am

Seeing that there were a lot of new things happening for the Wizards, a new coach, three new assistant coaches, and as well as a new President of Basketball Operations. But what do you think the Wizards need to take this franchise to a playoff calibur team in the 2003-2004 season? Such as signing which players, lineups, etc.

Here's my pick for the starting lineup for next season:

Brendan Haywood
Christian Laettner
Jarvis Hayes
Jerry Stackhouse
Larry Hughes

The Washington Wizards are a dead team with attendance dropping like a lead balloon.

Kwame might replace Laettner in the starting five. I don't think the Wiz are playoff bound in 2004.

I totally agree! But you can never doubt people, anything is possible when it comes to sports? Meaning, Kwame Browne could finally have that break out season, or not? But I feel Juan Dixon will have a good seaon & hopefully Gerad Jefferies. And of course Stackhouse! But they're aren't making the playoffs though, unless they can make some "blockbuster" trades, and play with will & together as a team! And lastly, I think the Wizards didn't give Doug Collins a fair chance, because it was the younger players who was their downfall, not willing to put everything on the line. Does anyone know who they have in line for the Wizards coaching vacancy?

Yo...I'm writing to say that even though MJ was pretty good last two seasons...I'm sorry but in my Opinion...he really screwed up the development of the younger players...esspecially Kwame's!

If it wasn't for MJ- Kwame would have had more minutes therefore to further strengthen his game...now that MJ's gone...I think the team will get to have a more realistic chance of showing what they can really do... I mean wasn't it MJ who let Kwame start?? Then suddenly- he demanded the starting spot!! :x I don't like that...even though I thought MJ wasn't was doing it for the good of the team...he really stuffed up the system instead!! Kwame had really good games when he had sufficient minutes!!

Oh well....at least old MJ's gone- so now I want to say that their Starting Five should be-

C-Heywood (He showed that he could get double-doubles at the end of Last Season)

PF- Kwame Brown (Who else? Now that MJ is out of the picture- it's Brown's turn to SHINE!! :D )

SF- Stack (He has to be the leader on the court)

SG- Larry (He was doing good at the point but I think he should stick at the 2!)

PG- Juan Dixon (Either he and Larry switch spaces or they just both share the task of bringing the ball up....Juan is good- He's got game...he just needs to show it!)

Well...I don't want to go into naming the bench but from just naming the five players IMO I think this team is pretty good!

Oh yeah- if they trade Stack for someone like Kobe or T-mac (even though Orlando/LA wouldn't do so...) they would definately make it into the playoffs...,even with the team have now...it's a done thing- because of how weak the East is...

lol the Stack for Kobe/T-Mac trade is never going to happen. Anyway, I think that Juan needs to improve on his foot movements more and try to create shots for people.

Jordan didn't cause Kwame to lose any minutes. Jordan played SG and SF. Kwame played PF and once in a while Center. He didn't get the minutes b/c he wasn't ready to play. You don't just get good by being in the games. I think that's overrated.

Eddy Curry and Marcus Fizer got benched bigtime (Fizer even got a bunch of DNPCD) at the start of the year b/c they were lazy and just couldn't play. They had to work their way back up through practice and when they did they both pretty much came out of nowhere. After getting like 8 DNPCD for Fizer, he came back and was maybe the best 6th man in the league until he got injured. (14ppg in only 23mpg the last 29 games before he got hurt) Then after the allstar break, Eddy got his time and came out of nowhere to be the best Center in the East averaging 19 and 7 post allstar break.

Point being, before their breakouts, they pretty much had been benched with next to no playing time.

If Kwame was ready, he would have been playing. I watched almost every Wizards game this year, and he was just not ready to play.

If the Wizards want him to develop faster, then they would of let him play more minutes. You're not going to get extremely better when you just play at practice. You need to learn from experiences by being in REAL games. You learn from your mistakes.

Yes I did and I'll say it again, if the Wizards want Kwame to develop faster, they need to let him play more minutes. I don't understand why Doug Collins would give him 17 minutes a game, then 3 minutes the next? That's stupid in my opinion.

I am a basketball player myself and I do play for a high school league. You can't get that much better in practice because you don't have any idea how to respond to real game situations. If Kwame deals with those situations, he will have a better idea on how to handle them next time.

You don't get that much better in practice? That's ridiculous. Explain how the Bulls players did it then. They came out of nowhere. They are practicing against the best. Other NBA players.

Kwame didn't play b/c he sucked. He started off the season good and then did crap. He had maybe one good game a month after that. He was a bum on defense and was clumbsy and just ugly on offense. With the Wizards fighting for a playoff spot, it was stupid to put him in.

I think Kwame will be real good, but he just sucked period and was not getting better.
