Celtics in a Cap Jacket

Thu May 15, 2003 7:37 pm

Van Gundy for Boston Job......
or Paul Silas!!!!!

Jimmy O'Brien can stick that three ball right up his....

Would anyone like:

Antoine Walker 12 Million
Tony Delk 3 Million
Vin Baker 14 Million

Let's see you gotta have 29 Million in cap space, how about Elton Brand.
I would trade all three players for someone like Brand and have 15 Million or so in cap space to shop for Jason Kidd, Jermaine O'Neal, Tim Duncan type player.

Geez what a dream.

Good luck to Danny Ainge getting something for Vin Baker/Tony Delk.

They shouldn't have made these trades:

Joe Johnson/Palacio/R.Brown - Delk and R. Rogers
Kenny Anderson/Potapenko/Forte - Baker and Shammond Williams

Maybe re-signing Kenny Anderson would be a good idea. He has the Celtics fans and players with him and a real nice handle.

If they didn't make these trades:

C- Battie
F- Walker
F- J. Johnson
G- Pierce
G- Anderson (less $9 Million after 2003 season)

Walter McCarty
Eric Williams
J.R. Bremer
Kedrick Brown
Vitaly Potapenko
Joe Forte
Randy Brown (out of there)
Milt Palacio (out of there)

They would have been better and under cap right now.
This is why Danny Ainge was hired, because O'Brien and Co. pissed away the entire future.
They may keep O'Brien, people say that, but I think it starts with him and ends with Antoine Walker.

Walker is not a scorer, he thinks so, but he shoots poorly and finishes around the basket even worse.

HATER!!!!!! ANTOINE IS MVP!!!!!

:D j/k.

I dunno if anyone would give up a star for Antoine Walker, but who knows you could get two descent players like Orlando did in the Mike Miller/Giricek/Gooden deal...

Or how about how they traded Chauncey Billups to Toronto for Kenny Anderson?

Every team makes good and bad trades. Case and point, chicago. They made a stella draft day trade to snatch Scottie Pippen, then they traded him for Roy Rogers and a second round pick.

I don't think the Celtics need to get rid of Walker, as much as he needs to adjust to the small forward position. If Boston could acquire a better power forward (ie one who prefers to play inside), Walker could probably make the switch back to small forward (though whether he can keep up with some of the guard-like forwards in the East is questionable).

I've read that Walker has been quite vocal in this year's playoffs, stepping up as a leader. The problem has been his offense - he shot poorly in the New Jersey series, being hassled by Kenyon Martin. If the Celtics had a better post-up player, then Martin and other big men are going to have to hassle him rather than Walker - leaving Walker to post up a smaller, weaker small forward, or shoot over him as he prefers.

O'Brien has done a pretty good job, but he does need to be firmer with the team about those three pointers. Looking at the boxscores, Walker was fairly disciplined, but Walter McCarty should not be putting up 5 a game (exaggerated number based on a few games), even if he can sometimes make 1 or 2 of them.

Solutions?

Silas would be a good choice for pretty much any team looking to make a coaching change this offseason. In Boston, he could be a well-liked coach, while still being firm with his players. Additionally, he's coached Kenny Anderson this season - perhaps if everyone's interested, the Celtics could get him back.

Vin Baker was supposed to be that tougher inside presence. He's either going to have to transform into the Vin Baker that was an All-Star four times, or someone's going to have to be suckered into taking him off the Celtics' hands in return for the player Boston is looking for. Neither scenario seems likely, but I guess anything is possible.

Get Walker to improve his post game or slim down to play small forward. If he can't do either, then perhaps it is time for him to move on. If I were the Celtics, I'd hold onto him in the mean time. It all depends on his ability to play at small forward, and the Celtics' ability to acquire some help inside. Walker was being harrassed by Kenyon Martin in the Nets series, which is the main reason for his less than impressive offensive output. As I said before, if the Celtics had another big body to keep Martin occupied, Walker would have been much less hindered.

walker OVERRATED.

Sure, to a certain extent. But he's not terrible either. The Celtics can make use of him, whether on the court or as a means of acquiring a good frontcourt player.

True, Walker's FG% is extremely low for a 6'9" forward who scores 20 ppg. But if Seattle can move Vin Baker, Boston could surely move Antoine Walker for the right player.

baker/anderson deal may go down as the worst trade ever in the celtic history

employee no.8 needs to get back to 'kentucky' days (like how carmelo anthony plays now) the current boston offensive system allows walker to shoot 3's like there's no tomorrow. whoever the new celtic coach will be needs to put him in a system that will enable to play like his former self
