What do you guys think about Carmello Anthony?

About the Glenn Robinson comparison: for me, it's not necessarily the styles of play, the method in which they score their points but rather what they are. They're both examples of the classic scoring small forward. They can put up points, they'll snare a few rebounds and their assist numbers are decent for the role they play in the offense.

Dominique Wilkins is another example of such a player, though he was more well-rounded and a far superior player. But he was a similar sort of player, the scoring small forward as opposed to the jack-of-all-trades type small forward (Scottie Pippen, Grant Hill). You wouldn't compare Glenn Robinson or Carmelo Anthony to Nique in terms of how they play or their athleticism, but there are parallels when you look at their roles, what they do best and the kind of production they give (or gave) their respective teams...even if those numbers aren't necessarily similar (Wilkins being the more explosive scorer with bigger averages) the traits themselves are similar.

whatever he does, you'll find a way to discredit it. even if he makes a game winning shot, you'll say "well it wasn't a swish". if you want to argue the nuggets make the playoffs without anthony, go right ahead. i'm done then debating this

and this need for taking the brunt of responsibility, the finger's been pointed at anthony ever since denver's 1st round loss to the twolves 2 years ago

that's a such a bland and vauge comparison, andrew. tyson chandler's role is to play defense, get rebounds, block shots. but i wouldn't compare him to bill russell

I'm sorry you find it "bland" and "vague". I thought I'd explained my opinion fairly clearly.

Carmelo has traits that remind me of Glenn Robinson, primarily because they're both scoring small forwards and I notice similarities in their statistical production, which I mentioned. I don't know how much more specific you want me to be.

As for the Tyson Chandler/Bill Russell example, obviously that's not a good comparison. But Carmelo and Big Dog are more on the same level in terms of production and "status". More to the point, I said I feel they are parallels that can be drawn, not that every player that plays a similar role can be compared to one another.

sometime's "comparison" is misused, as you say, it can be very vague. i think you'll find many SF's that are scorers and give a little in the rebounding & assist areas...

i will agree that they are similar in terms of position and stats but i don't see anything that much similar to make a fair comparison. but there are some still grasping at anything to complete the comparison

That's true. There are other parallels that I should have mentioned; the fact they're both third (possibly second) tier stars in the league, which makes the comparison a bit closer compared to something like Chandler/Russell. Also true about the role of small forwards, but as you know there's also the Pippen/Hill mold of small forward; while they're great scorers, they're also great playmakers and all-around talents compared to more scoring-minded small forwards like Nique, Melo and Big Dog.

So yeah, not to say he's destined to be "just" another Glenn Robinson or is completely like him, but there's similarities and parallels that remind me of Robinson when talking about Carmelo Anthony.

Melo's started off pretty cold this season and so has K-Mart...so much for his Im gonna have a big year promise. Oh well lets hope GK can get the team on a run again...only MC and Dre have done something decent....starting DerMarr is a good choice, his long hands and pace can come useful on the defensive end compared to a sluggish Voshon Lenard.

Hopefully Melo can start upping his numbers soon....his assists are up but his rebounding is weak and with Nene out and Kmart playing poorly he really needs to be stronger on the boards.

It isn't just me... Someone is seeing the same content status on his face that I am... It's just not me. What he needs to realize that it isn't enough... He is his biggest opponent at the moment and once he conquers himself he will be great and not just good as he is right now!

He hasn't told me anything... But why I'm doing this is to hopefully get the word out and hopefully he can wake up and become a super-star instead of a guy with the world given to him, but he was too busy to notice... And then the moment was gone.

The leadership part etc. isn't meant that he should drive to be the leader if he doesn't want to, but more to the point that I think he would find some of that urgency and would mature faster in a leadership role...

I just don't want him to be another "full of potential that never became a reality" guys.

He has the makings of a star, but he has to want it to make it so... I'd like to see him strive and become a great player, but it's all on him now... He has the tools and he has the opportunity, he only needs do the work.

It's like stepping into your Lamborghini and then forgetting in which pocket you put the keys into...
