Team Naming

Why are we getting so damn lazy with our team names??

When did the Supersonics become the "Sonics"??? Are they no longer Super?

I guess the Trailblazers have no more trails to blaze so to save per-letter advertising they're now just the "Blazers"?

What the hell is a "T-Wolf"?

Apparently a certain team from Philadelphia shed 70 points to go from "76ers" to "Sixers".

It's the same as in our language. I could arguably say the same thing about do not becoming don't, they would becoming they'd. People just give them shorter names because they're shorter. Nobody like saying supersonics a billion times in a conversation, so they say Sonics.

i have an answer for every single one of them

the sonics are not SUPER any more, so they are now just the SONICS.
The TrailBlazers are just BLAZERS coz of the weed!
the T-WOLVES are just the T-Wolf coz.........well who else but KG???
and the 76ERS changed there name coz thye relised even if allen iverson does jack up 50 shots, he wont get 70 points........so they are just sixers

on a serious side...............who cares???
lol

Same reason we call the Knickerbockers, Knicks.

What is a knickerbocker anyway?

It's the pants the Dutch used to wear when they colonized the New World.

Ah yes, I remember now. The history section at NBA.com (or was it in the NBA Encyclopedia? I forget which) attributed the Knickerbockers moniker to the Dutch settlers in New York, who as Dan pointed out wore knickerbockers. I guess that name isn't as marketable as Knicks, so we see that name more often - same as we see Blazers more often than not.

Ironic that Rasheed and Damon play for the Blazers isn't it. If they picked up JR, Lamar, and White Chocolate, there wouldn't be any bud left in Portland.
