NBA Pacers part company with Frank Vogel

The Indiana Pacers parted company with head coach Frank Vogel on Thursday after five seasons with the franchise.

Pacers President Larry Bird said the team had decided not to renew Vogel's contract despite the coach expressing his desire to stay on.

"Frank's not getting fired. His contract is up and I just made the decision not to renew it," Bird said at a press conference.

Bird said Vogel had made repeated requests to stay on during a 30-minute conversation on Thursday following the decision.

Another move that's kind of callous, given some of the bad luck the team has been dealt in the past couple of years. As discussed here, it could've been handled with a bit more class. It's the kind of thing that could have potential replacements second guessing the opportunity, as could the prospect of Bird being in their ear about how to coach the team.

Seems like a strange recent firing of 2 successful coaches. Not sure what more they were expecting, as most teams would kill to have had the success that these coaches have helped them achieve

i dont like that move by indiana, stupid to the maximum, same with joerger in memphis, how dumb you must be to kick out coach who reach the playoffs with farmar,allen,barnes,anderson,carter, all without injured conley, gasol and zbo. Ofc indiana should win with pathetic toronto but cmon that was completely new team, no West, Hibbert and few other players, its team in rebuilding process for sake!

The Grizzlies didn't reach the playoffs with though players they were forced to use that lineup in the playoffs, they had most of there roster up until the final month of the season but yeah coach was looking at other jobs again and asked for permission to interview like he did when he wanted the Twolves job a couple of years a go after just signing a deal in memphis

mp3, i mean 30 missing games by their two best offensive players. Imagine Cavs without Lbj and Love, GSW without Curry and Thompson etc etc. 28 players in roster! That coach made HUGE JOB to keep Memphis in playoffs spot.

Oh I agree he did a great job but for some reason he's always looking to bolt Memphis and coach elsewhere so I don't blame the front office for cutting ties.

Larry Bird is so dumb for doing this. I mean c'mon man, Indiana was 3 years ago giving problems to the big 3 in Miami in each Conference Finals.
