Favourite & Least Favourite Teams/Players

This is another topic we haven't had in a while, and as I mentioned elsewhere, we've had a fair amount of turnover in our userbase in recent years. So, which is your favourite team, your least favourite team, and some of your all-time favourite and least favourite players? If there's a story behind some of your choices, what is it?

How did you come to like and dislike those teams and players?

Getting into basketball in the 90s, the Bulls were the dominant team, Michael Jordan was on top with Scottie Pippen being one of the best players in the league as well, and they were the team whose merchandise was most readily available in Australia. They became my favourite team, and they've remained my favourite team even through the tough times. The other players I mentioned have either played for the Bulls, or are players I've enjoyed watching (or both). Shawn Kemp was my cousin's favourite player growing up, so he became one of mine as well. Patty Mills is a fellow Aussie, who had a great showing in the 2014 Finals. I've always liked KG's game. Fairly straightforward, all around.

When the Jazz were squaring off with the Bulls in 1997 and 1998, I didn't much care for them. That was probably mostly due to Karl Malone, who I absolutely recognise as an all-time great, but I don't much care for him. Some of it is the Bulls/Jordan fanboy that disagreed with him winning the MVP in 1997 (though even now, I'd say that was a mistake), but also because he comes off as a tool, what with refusing to have anything to do with the son he fathered through statuatory rape, preventing Magic Johnson from making a comeback in 1993 with a bit of fearmongering, and so forth. Likewise, I respect Ben Wallace's talents as a defender, but I felt he got off easy following the Malice at the Palace, and though I tried to keep an open mind when he joined the Bulls, it seemed his heart wasn't in it and the effort wasn't living up to his contract. Not his fault for taking the money, but it seemed like he just didn't try. Blame Paxson for the ridiculous contract, but blame Wallace for going on cruise control.

My current distaste for the Warriors is kind of unfortunate, as it's impressive what they're doing, and I was actually really happy to see them win the championship last year. In lieu of the Bulls being able to win, I usually have a preference as to who I'd like to see win instead, and that was them last year. However, some of the cockiness and boasting in the midst of this great run is something I find a bit obnoxious and off-putting; Draymond Green's constant flexing, Klay Thompson talking about being the best shooting guard in the league, that sort of thing. I think all the talk about them has kind of soured my attitude towards them as well. To be honest, I think I'm getting where a lot of fans were coming from back in the 90s when MJ and the Bulls were on top, and they were a bit sick of them. You've certainly got to acknowledge the greatness, but some of the hyperbole and the way they carry themselves rubs me the wrong way, compared to last year.

How did you come to like and dislike those teams and players?
I never watched the NBA growing up since I live in Ireland but I did play a lot of NBA Live and I always played with the Nuggets because they were one of the best teams at the time. Same goes for the Spurs.

As for the Warriors, all they do is shoot threes Well that's not all they do but they shoot a lot of them and rely on them a lot also. I hate that... they blow teams out by like 20 - 30 points and if they don't it's because they've had an off night from the three. I hate seeing how teams are more interested in building teams surrounded with three point shooters. It's evident that the Warriors are poor when they can't score the three point shot -

How did you come to like and dislike those teams and players?
Love the Lakers ever since my dad brought me to a Lakers game when he was on a business trip. Fell in love with kobe at the spot #YesHomo. Don't like 76ers because of their tanking. Cavs.... well.... I don't like LeBron but... screw him.
Rooting for Mudiay and Booker. Kobe is my all-time favorite. Green, Rodman, and Wallace -- love players who can grab the boards (exception of Green in this case).

How did you come to like and dislike those teams and players?
First NBA game I watch in TV is the Finals between Lakers and Pacers, basically my dad told me to cheer for the Lakers. Funny though I was 50/50 when it came to the Lakers and the Sixers, I like Iverson more than Kobe or Shaq being a small guy but I also like the Lakers. I think I'm more of Lakers fan than a Kobe fan.

I hate the Rockets mostly because of Harden and Howard, also hate their team broadcast commentator they are the most biased I ever heard. Pierce for being a Celtic and that wheelchair act. Bowen for being a pesky dirty defender but I think I played just like him in real life lol.

How did you come to like and dislike those teams and players?
The Spurs during the SSOL Suns era always had the Suns number until the 2010 Playoffs. I hated Bowen and Horry because of what they did to Nash during those series. I hate the Clippers because of their constant flopping especially Griffin and Paul. Their broadcast team doesn't help either. I always get annoyed by that Oh-me-oh-my guy. I hated the LeBron era Heat because they are such a great team that I want them to fail

How did you come to like and dislike those teams and players? I essentially hate teams that I feel is in need of change of leadership/ownership. I dislike teams that I feel are keeping good players from getting up to their full potential just because a bad team drafted them, but are either too cheap or because team leadership is incapable to add on talent to their stars. With regards to players, I dislike overrated players that are obviously flawed, but no one notices.

How did you come to like and dislike those teams and players?
Grew up in LA as a Showtime Lakers fan, so naturally a Magic fan and hate everything about Boston. Began watching Clippers in 200 as the other LA team, so now I support both.
Hate OKC and Clay Bennett for leaving Seattle.
Gary Payton was always one of the players I'd like to play with in NBA Live. I'd like playing as point guards, and I've been a CP3 fan since his rookie year.

How did you come to like and dislike those teams and players?

Steve Nash era Phoenix Suns is one of the greatest things in sports history. They were a lovely and enjoyable team then. High score games, insane passes by Nash, electrifying dunks by Amar'e and Shawn Marion. I even remember that I felt so happy when Amar'e Stoudemire returned for a few games from his injury, the one being against Blazers at home. Then he left again. I was disappointed again.

I was disappointed when Miami Heat acquired LeBron James. I hated him so much, and I enjoyed Mavs title win in 2011, only for my hate against LeBron James. In a few years, my hate converted to a respect that I said "FINALLY" when Heat won the title in 2012.

Tim Duncan is my favorite player because I liked the way he played in mid-2000s. It was astonishing that how he led his team to success. I also loved Spurs defense - it was boring, and successful.

I didn't like Pau Gasol all because of NBA Live 2005. I couldn't stop Gasol then. I also thought that Grizzlies players, uniforms and logos were all ugly.

How did you come to like and dislike those teams and players?

Mainly just their overall cockiness annoys me. I think they are a good team but it is obvious they get extra help from the refs. Illegal screens also piss me off to no end. Im not really a conspiracy theorist but it feels like the NBA wants the Warriors to break the record. Whatever sells tickets i guess. I hate Delly because he is a dirty player. Hurt my boy Kyle Korver last year.

How did you come to like and dislike those teams and players?

OKC: Serge played in my hometown team when he was playing in the Spanish league. I also met his brother. Then he came into the NBA and I started following Oklahoma.
SAS: No need of an explanation.
BOS: I love Brad and the way he uses every player in a way to get 150% of them. He really is a great coach. I enjoy watching Boston games and breaking down Brad's sets.
SSS: Mainly because of destroying my brother in 2K13 with that team.
LBJ HEAT: The way that team was acomplished, LeBron's cockiness, etc...
LAC: They complain about everything. I have much respect for CP3's game, but I hate his atitude. I just can't stand Griffin. Matt Barnes.

DH12&TheBeard: I hate his game and his attitude oncourt and offcourt.
Len&Plumlee: Two atrocious players who get into fights always. C'mon guys, you suck, just shut the fuck up.

How did you come to like and dislike those teams and players?
Born in Oregon, having lived in Seattle for most of my life, I didn't want to stop watching NBA in 2008, so I decided to support a team I always liked, and who had a likable superstar from University of Washington in Brandon Roy. The Blazers have made personnel errors and suffered heartbreaking injuries, which has kept them from reaching elite status in these last few seasons, but fortunately never went full-Sixers (as evidenced by them nearly doubling their expected win total this year). In the past, Roy and Batum were my favorite players, but now it's all about Dame. Nash is probably my all-time favorite player to watch, and Kawhi is just an NBA nerd's dream player.

For obvious reasons, I'll always hate the Thunder, even if Seattle does get a new team some day. I've always disliked the Heat. The 2006 Finals rubbed me the wrong way, and I just don't like anything about them, from their jerseys to their players to their fairweather fans... fuck the Heat. James Harden is probably my least favorite player ever though. It's a drag to watch his cynical ass not play defense and flop on every possession.
