Chris Bosh dealing with another blood-clot scare

Seems his withdrawal from the All-Star festivities was due to something more serious than initially reported.

Report: Bosh dealing with another blood-clot scare

Chris Bosh of the Miami Heat is dealing with another blood-clot scare, making this the second consecutive year that he's spent the All-Star break facing a most uncertain future because of the issue.

Bosh will spend "the next few days" reviewing options and no determination will be made about his playing status until he goes through more tests and evaluation, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press on Monday night. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because neither the All-Star forward nor the Heat have revealed the matter publicly.

Bosh is Miami's leading scorer at 19.1 points per game this season. He said over the weekend in Toronto that he was optimistic about playing again this season.

He pulled out of the All-Star Game and the 3-point contest because of what he and the Heat described as a calf strain. Bosh was shut down at the All-Star break last season because a blood clot had found its way to one of his lungs, and that issue is believed to have started as a calf problem.

Certainly concerning if this is indeed the same situation he faced last season, not only for his career and the Miami Heat's future, but also obviously his general health and well-being. Whether or not you like the guy and/or his team, you certainly don't wish ill-health on anyone.

It's not even like this is career threatening it's life threatening, it's not even like giving up basketball would help it unless we are talking about all the air travel of course which can lead to blood clots

"optimistic about playing again this season"

Well, that about does it. The Heat are again screwed. The Heat shouldn't have re-signed him for max but blew it all up last year and build again. Perhaps Stanley Johnson or Mudiay could have come instead of Winslow.

If either Bosh or the Heat organization are "optimistic" you can take it to the bank that he won't play again this season. The Heat organization always down plays seriousness of any injury or team related incident.

Another blood clot scare could end his career. Sucks for Bosh, because he seems like a genuinely good person. The writing is on the wall for this Heat squad. Time to blow it up and tank Riles.

The doctors will probably put him on blood thinner tablets which I believe it's not wise to over exercise while taking them.

So if he does go on them iam guessing he's done for the year.

That's what led to him sitting out the second half of last season. It doesn't bode well for his career, but as you noted, more importantly it's a potentially life-threatening situation. If he has to call it a day in order to take care of his health and live a long life, then the choice is obvious.

It does seem like the Heat will need to go into a full rebuilding mode. One wonders whether Wade will end up being a part of the plan, or if he'll finally be moving on after it looked like a split might happen last offseason.

Despite disputing earlier reports, it looks like the Heat are going to shut Bosh down for the season. Obviously the right call, if those reports were indeed accurate.
