Brooklyn Nets clean house, firing coach and reassigning GM

In short...
The Nets reassigned their general manager and fired coach Lionel Hollins on Sunday in the midst of their worst season since moving from New Jersey.

The Nets said assistant Tony Brown will serve as the interim head coach, and the GM position will remain open until a replacement is hired.

Didn't we have a diehard Nets fan a few years ago? I hope to hear from him on this.

What did this team expect when they signed BARGS???

They knew they didn't have a draft pick to aim for, and they signed Larkin too!

So Billy may be gone, but his legacy will still last for a while. All those picks he gave away for either peanuts or over the hill ex-stars are looking better and better with no obvious way to improve available to them. I don't envy whoever gets tasked with cleaning up this mess. Hard to find an organization with a worse outlook for the future right now.

With this grand track record, it's hard to see anyone hiring King as GM at this point. What he's done in his whole career is already enough to put him in the discussion for worst GM ever, though.

Yeah the nets have made themselves look like the Isiah lead knicks.

I know it's like a difficult job for whoever takes over but it's also a "Hall pass" in terms of time to turn things around and work with what you have.

Donnie Walsh did a great job of turning the knicks around to get us cap space with a young core before the Melo trade.

John Calipari Reportedly Wants A Ridiculous Amount Of Money To Run The Nets

John Calipari has basically accomplished everything a coach can do in college basketball. He’s positively transformed all three programs he’s been involved with and was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. He also finally won that elusive NCAA Title back in 2012.

But Calipari’s run in the NBA was not quite as successful. He left UMass for the New Jersey Nets in 1996, and coached the team for two full seasons before being fired after a 3-17 start to the 1998-99 campaign.

Even though Cal’s original run with the Nets was a failure, it’s been rumored that the team wants to bring the current Kentucky coach back on board to replace the recently fired Lionel Hollins; they also appear to be willing to make him team president.

However, if the Nets are going to lure Calipari away from Big Blue Nation, they are going to have to pay up, as his asking price is an insane 10 years, $120 million, according to Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Mark Jackson is reportedly also interested in the vacancy. As it will get him off ESPN broadcasts again, I'm all for that.

Calipari's starting salary at Kentucky will be $7 million when his extension kicks in next season. So that deal to be both coach and GM isn't that insane. Especially considering his last stint with the franchise.

I honestly think Mark Jackson will struggle to find another head coaching job in the league straight off the bat I think he needs to go back in at the assistant level and prove that he can get along with other coaching staff and management first.

I feel like Jackson is the frontrunner here since Thibs is too smart to take the job.

Why can't they gimme the job if they want to go Hinkie. I can probably pile up the picks just as well and perhaps beat piles of 76ers losing records in the process. I don't cost $120 million but $120 worth of inNout burger coupon.

That wouldn't be easy, all of Brooklyn's first rounders out to 2018 are headed to Boston and their second round picks out until 2020 are traded.

Lopez, Young, Hollis-Jefferson and Chris McCullough are their only players on the books after next season. You're better off playing the FA market since you already have Lopez and are paying him $20+ million a year. Oh, and you're in Brooklyn.

Cal has a great setup at U of K. he should just stay in the college game and continue to make his millions with no one bothering him

They really got screwed up when they traded for Garnett and Pierce.

James Dolan & Isiah Thomas laugh at Prokhorov....damn. Who's going to lead the Nets out of that mess?

Imagine if the Celtics wind up with the LSU kid Simmons?

A monkey could've coached those warriors teams to the playoffs. And he only made 2 out of 3 years

I don't hate on Jackson but his anti gay views when he had gay management and turning on staff members is a sure way to get most of the league against signing you as there coach.
