Whenever Gary's mentioned, I think of a guy that needs his jersey retired.

No doubt. The problem is, the team he had his best years with is currently inactive, and he's said that he doesn't want to have anything to do with the Thunder retiring his jersey on their behalf.

I'm sure there are a few exceptions which aren't springing immediately to mind, but it seems that whenever the father is a Hall of Famer, the son is average to good at best. On the other hand, if the father was average to good at best, the son turns out to be the (future) Hall of Famer.

I hope he or his brother Gary Payton Jr. legally change their name to avoid confusion
